To be fair, one will be heading to a runoff. But still, this is like whe Uvalde went overwhelmingly for Abbott.

This place isn't going to get better. I've lost hope.

Are we all going by our Surly handles when we get to the camps? It’s the logical next step.

The pro-voucher candidate for my state rep, Shofner, is crushing incumbent Travis Clardy so far. Just fucking great.

I tried a couple of cases against Clardy and I can’t imagine what someone more conservative than him could look like.

    This thread's very enlightening.

I learned that last year's success was thanks to Chris Beard and the players. Chris Beard's associate HC and then interim HC for the majority of the season had nothing to do with it.

And this year when we win it's thanks to the players. When we lose it's because RT picked bad players to play for his team.

It all makes a lot of sense.

    Jesus, grow up.

To be fair, that is pretty typical. Taking things out of order is the atypical way to approach it.

Low IQ shenandigans are player problems. You think Terry is coaching Hunter and Mitchell to be mentally and physically weak with the ball. It's amazing that a shitty coach like Scott Drew routinely had sloppy play and low IQ shenanagins game after game until he stopped recruiting those types of players and became a coach that won the tournament. Now, if you want to blame Terry for something it was thinking Hunter and Mitchell could be salvaged. Even though both are having career seasons in terms of shooting, they still aren't playing consistent winning basketball. That doesn't fall on the coaching staff, unless you think he should be benching Hunter and Mitchell until their game to game effort improves.

I don’t really agree with all of that. I think a staff does have a responsibility and need, to be able to develop players. Now, if your position is that they are beyond anyone being able to coach them or scheme them to improve or be more effective, then why are they on the team?

I’m also not sure I agree with Mitchell being a scrub although I do see how minds could differ on it. He does need some work on his offensive game and strength but his athleticism is off the charts and he generally plays better than average defense. I’m just not sure why he’s not a better shooter.  I’m anxious to follow him after he leaves because I just really feel like someone should have been able to develop him more than he is currently showing.

Look, RT isnt going to be fired at the end of this season. I actually agree with that, it would be unfair. He has the right to try and figure this thing out. The people who are upset (me included) with him are due to the sloppy play and low IQ shenanigans game after game. He also doesnt have a pedigree of success like Beard did, so that 100% should factor in. He has no pedigree at all, so his leash will be much shorter. Let's see what he does next year. I think he will need to be a top 6 seed in the tournament and finish top 4 in the SEC in order to keep his job.

I’m not sure there is anyone on this board who actually thinks RT was going to be fired this year.  I sure didn’t.
The things you point out are facts that the pro RT crowd refuse to admit. I actually think we are stuck with him for three years. Either he earns an extension at that point or not.
My opinion is that his roster management and coaching were average at best this year. I’m personally really invested in Texas basketball both emotionally and financially and do think we could have done better than a guy with RT’s historical level of performance.
Next year will be critical to RT’s future. If he makes strides and sets himself up for serious success in year three things could get interesting. The thing is, I just don’t really see anything that leads me to believe he’s capable of doing that.  If he does, I will be happy to admit I was wrong and give him all the credit he deserves.

Houston lost by double digits at Kansas

And Kansas lost by 29 at Tech in addition to losing at WVU and at UCF

But please, keep throwing out misogynistic personal insults and pretending like you have some clue what you’re talking about.

I admire your dedication to tilting at windmills. While not the most articulate of stances, I do commend your effort.

Every time this season I thought they were about to crash and bun they turn it around out of nowhere.

But on the other hand, every time we show a glimpse of potential for a few games, they lay an egg and remind us they are a poor defensive, low IQ, basketball team. And ultimately, that's on RT for them not playing to their capabilities. We shouldnt have so much wild fluctuation in our play.

At no point this year have I thought we were a final 4 team. But, my assertion has always been that we had better individual talent than was showing up in the collective results of the team.  Hence why I don’t believe RT has done a good job coaching this team.

I read over the weekend that we're missing the tournament this year and won't even make the NIT next year

Thanks for weighing in Ms. Haith.
I never made either of those statements because I don’t think it’s that making is that big of an achievement but should be a minimum expectation.  Good win and credit the coaches for not losing the team after last week. It was actually fun for a change. However, not being competitive in the Houston and Kansas games is probably a better barometer of future success than beating a diminished Tech team.

Maybe all of the arguing is over timing. I would think most people believe that Terry will end up fired, as many thought the day he was hired, but it will be at the end of year 2 or 3, not year 1. I seriously doubt he will be or should be fired after one year, unless he’s demonstrated to his bosses that he’s unfit to be the head coach in some way.

He will win just enough to stick around but not enough to justify an extension. Death by 1000 cuts.

Well, your effort is unnecessary. There's no hope of Texas making the tournament, our season is done, and Terry has been an unmitigated disaster. The 'Horns wouldn't have a chance even if the game were 4 on 5.

Y'all would win this with Mark Adams coaching, and even if said coach fucked his deceased brother's widow on the court before the game.

(Incidentally, Tech didn't delete the Mark Adams page from its website; they just killed the link. I'm serious. His page is still accessible and it still says he's the head coach.)

Fucked his deceased twin brother’s widow

You left out the freakiest part

and he's done a much better job than anyone is willing to give him credit. Texas had 2 returning players after the season was over and no incoming HS recruits. If there was a new coach, then you are probably looking at a team without Disu, Abmas, Shedrick, Weaver, Hunter, and Mitchell. Maybe that would have been better alternative, but there's not a lot of success turning over entire rosters in a single off-season in college basketball. Beard's 1st team had some dreadful performances and lost the best a guy now predicited to go in the lottery and another needed big before the season even ended.

I am begining to think that the majority of the people in this thread would have gladly traded the EE finish if it meant Rodney Terry wouldn't be the coach today.

Are you suggesting that there is something people don’t like about RT other than his head coaching abilities?

He couldn't recruit at the high school level the whole year because 1) Beard had two big commits, and 2) he was interim coach until late March/early April

While factually true, none of that has any bearing on the present situation.
I guess it’s Beards fault that RT embarrassed himself by complaining like a bitch about the horns down?

  16. 51 minutes ago, Reality Check said:

The same geniuses demanding Terry's ouster here were on previous boards demanding both be fired; Shaka certainly didn't do anything to justify staying but pushing Barnes out was just plain stupid. (Cue the baseless "both Texas and Barnes needed a change" platitude.)

RT has reached his level of incompetence.

It was a mess left by Beard. He put little effort into HS recruiting last season outside of Johnson, Holland, and Stojakovic and had a team that was going to be losing most of the experienced players. Terry's biggest mistake was bringing back Hunter and Mitchell.

Thanks. Just as I thought. Blaming everything other than the right thing.  Amazing what people will convince themselves of to avoid acknowledging they made a mistake.

    This.

It's the next generation of people who thought Dean Smith would leave UNC to replace Weltlich, or that Jay Smith would depart Villanova to take over for Penders. They ignore basketball until football is over and then demand we somehow win the Big 12 every year en route to the Elite Eight.

We're on track for 20 wins and a No. 8-10 seed in the NCAA Tournament in a rebuilding year that's further been saddled with Kadin Shedrick's injury That means we're getting fewer than 18 minutes per game from one of our only two players over 6-6.

But yeah -- losing at Kansas like we have in all but two seasons since 1996 is somehow the barometer to determine Rodney Terry's tenure should be over at Texas. Whatever, man. Whatever.

Even money says we get to 20 wins in the regular season. But people will still bitch when we lose to Houston in Kansas City and to UConn or Purdue in the Round of 32.

Twenty wins with the non conference schedule we played isn’t much to brag about.

It’s not that we have to wait until year 3 to buy it out.

And if you believe him, CTJ says the basketball BMDs like Terry and want to give him “time to clean up the mess” apparently.

I must have missed that post. Is it the mess that RT created or some mythical mess created by someone else?
