Some Texas fans really struggle with the idea that we're just going to demand a little bit better behavior out of our coaches than the average school might.

I agree that is the attitude of the powers that be except when conduct most likely wont hit the media.

Definitely, but you still get some pretty light examples.

I have a strat with a nice Pau Ferro board, but I was able to select it from all of Sweetwaters examples. Had my rep send me pics of everyone they had, not just the four they put up on the page. I don't mind the feel of Pau Ferro, but they can sure be ugly.

After playing a Strat with PF for several months now I can say that it performs very well. It was an aesthetic thing for me which is really kind of stupid.  If they could get it a bit darker it would not bother me at all.

the only people who think about that are Texas fans. No one else even gives a shit.

Some poster on here was worried about  fans holding up signs of Beard in his jumpsuit at away games and how that would make UT look bad and people clutch their pearls. I don’t think that’s happened not 1 bit for Mississippi at away games. I don’t think people even remember what happened to Beard and why he got to Mississippi.

    This.

Same principle at work as when all the blue hairs got bent about our opening video this season with the overweight rapper with his shirt off. Notice how it only lasted one game before they changed it to only show him with his shirt on?  That lasted one game and then he was totally removed   We are a bunch of pearl clutchers

We took the easy way out by letting him go after privately telling him it would blow over. Then we compounded the mistake by getting bullied into hiring RT.  Tired of seeing comments that we had no choice. I know for a fact that when RT was made interim there was no thought about hiring him. We always have choices. Some are hard, and some are easy. We made two easy choices and now look at where it put us.  I understand that not everyone thinks firing Beard was a mistake. I respect that. But, the only reason we had to hire RT was because the powers that be let circumstances dictate our actions as opposed to getting control of them and taking the path that was best for the program.

I also don’t buy the argument that RT saved the season. That was a mature, talented and veteran team that was much easier to put in a position to win. Donewald had the offense in a much better place than Haith has it now.  RT sealed his fate when he brought in Haith to effectively run the program as a comfort hire.

I think that we have some good players but they are not being utilized in a way to maximize what they do well. We were flat out coached last night.

You're not going to believe this. I didn't. But I've been told she's not exactly "no longer even in his life."

I'm just going to wait for Terry to run out the string. I like the guy on a personal level. I've never liked him as a coach.

I'm still in favor of him being hired last year after taking the team to the Elite 8. It's not like we have a ton of those to boast about. But right after he was named the interim coach, him being successful was something I had mixed feelings about. I was told I was getting too far ahead of myself, which was true, but the scenario played out exactly how I envisioned it might.

What are ya gonna do? I wasn't going to root against Texas simply so he wouldn't get the job. It was a magical season and now we're going to be consigned to something not special until he's fired and his replacement is found - which is also no sure thing.

My biggest hope is that Beard has another meltdown at some point. Otherwise that guy is going to make me miserable with his future success.

She’s not out of his life. You’re right.

  5. Kind of NGD. I have this same guitar but with Pau Ferro fretboard. This one came up with rosewood. I just like it better. It’s sonic blue in color but looks white in photo.

My boy is 7 (8 in Jan) and still believes. Our Santa has always just done one big unwrapped present every year. Girls are 14 And 11 and obviously don’t believe but play it up for him.

I was talking to the wife at 2:30a Christmas Eve about how maybe next year or year after we won’t have to put anything together on Christmas again. I’m going to miss having really young kids but that’s one thing I won’t.

There will be a time where you will kind of revise history and really miss those days. I do.
I actually thought I could put together a large trampoline by myself in the dark. I did it but it was rough. Looking back I can say I do kind of miss even that.

You're somebody that only likes to use metrics when they make your point.

Texas turned up the defense way before the postseason as already clearly proven by the T-Rank adj D over the last 20 games. You don't want to admit that Texas was a good defensive team last year other than "a miracle postseason run defensively" because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Hey, I’m the one that said it. I will try to abide by a better word choice in the future. It’s Christmas for fucks sake.
To me, they played good D in the beginning, sunk after Beard left,  and played much better in the stretch of the season.
I saw every home game from third row center and that’s what it looked like to me. Your mileage may vary.

    Touchy? No.

It's just funny. Texas didn't "turn on the defense" to end last year. They were one of the best defensive teams in the country to end the year (over about a 20 game span).

Now will that happen again this year? No clue but it doesn't make your argument any less dumb.

You can say what you want but there was definitely a valley in our defensive play  during the middle of the season.

I don't think this team is much different from last year based on the season trajectory.

L to Illinois, close wins against meh teams in Rice and Stanford, etc. Don't forget that we were also giving up a ton of points at that part of the year (there were some glaring defensive issues).

Now can RT get this team to improve like last year is a big question but it's not like our success was linear last year. We really didn't find our groove until late in the season once Disu was back to full health.

Maybe, but I recall us playing at a real high level during the Gonzaga and Creighton games. We sputtered at times in conference but turned it on the last week of conference and the tournament.
Haven’t really seen defensive buy in collectively this year. That is certainly a distinction between this year and last. Yes, Mitchell is playing better D.  Weaver is tenacious on defense. Outside of that, not real impressive so far.

also this was bad. we should have/would have finished first or second in the country in AdjD had Beard not gotten himself fired. we were no.2 when Beard was fired. and damn the analytics, anyone who remembers our defense under Beard last year remembers how truly dominant that defense was. best defense i ever remember seeing at Texas, equal to if not better than the defense that had Doj, Avery Bradley, Damion James, and Dexter Pittman.

i remember @longhornmatt, whose opinion i value more than anyone here when it comes to UT basketball, specifically commenting on the swarming and dominant nature of our defense under Beard, and how it changed after he left. last year’s D probably should have been the best in school history. finishing outside the top 10 was a major letdown.

Without stepping into all the other mess this was my perception as well. The further we get away from Beard, the lower the defensive play has gotten.

In that Beato interview (linked above) he tells some great stories. He said in the 70s there was a state law that a Texas band was required to play with any headlining acts when they toured here. He was in a band prior to hitting it big that opened for Zeppelin.

I'm guessing he lived in Austin when Earl was playing in mid/late 70s, hence the Oilers 34 jersey.

I think he may have been in Houston right before he broke out.

CC in this Oilers/Earl jersey is how I originally introduced myself to his music.

I fucking love this dude and the Beato interview is fantastic. Glad to see him looking/feeling good after dealing with some serious health issues.

Unfortunately it seems he won't be fully appreciated until he kicks the bucket. Texas music legend.

His first album was the first 8 track I bought back in the 7th grade.
What I never realized until I moved to Austin as he was friends with some friends of mine, was that he is an awesome guitar player and a really nice guy.
