  1. I forgot. Sainte Chapelle is a must see when it first opens or towards closing. It's usually crowded as shit through out the day but if you get there at those times, the crowd is significantly less. Depending on what time of year you go, I like the light in the chapel at closing better.

buy tickets online beforehand i assume? with a tour? would anybody who's been recommend a guide?

been working on our Paris leg. we are skipping the two biggest ticket items (Tour Eiffel, Louvre), i just don't want to spare the time mostly, and there are good substitutions. we'll do a mix of metro (bus mostly), walking and Uber (or taxi) throughout the day, i've scoped out routes and times. did i mention i was a 5 star trip planner? ☺️

Going up the Eiffel is not worth the wait. Tip for the Louvre, go EARLY and use the Carrousel or Porte des Lions entrances. Not many people know about these entrances. They are much shorter lines than the main Pyramid entrance. Then fast walk straight to the Mona Lisa and see it before the asshole horde get there. It's bizarre seeing the Mona Lisa with only 2 or 3 people around. An hour or so later when you leave the Louvre, walk by the Mona Lisa just to see the dipshit chaos around the picture. Watching the mass of inconsiderate people is an exhibit unto itself. Also he's controversial but I love the huge Jacques-Louis David paintings. You will regret going to Paris and not seeing all the GREAT art.

Make sue to look at the link to find more info on the entrances. https://www.louvre.fr/en/visit/map-entrances-directions

one day we'll start with les jardins and plaza around the tower, get some touristy pics, move on pretty quick to Les Invalides...a much better place to spend several hours! work our way down to Jardin du Luxembourg, towards Latin Quarter. plan to have Catacombs tickets for sometime that day (they only go on sale 7 days before). optional: add Montparnasse at dusk, see the city from there with the tower in it :)

btw, studying street view and pics...the whole Eiffel area reminds me of the national mall in Washington. i assume that is on purpose? man we were really close with the French for a while weren't we? i'll be looking for the Statue of Liberty too lol

another day we'll start at Petit Palais and work our way down the river front...Musee L'Orangerie, Tulieres, Louvre plaza, Palais Royal...generally working our way towards Marais. optional: add Le Centre Pompidou which is open late.

optional stuff is just if we're feeling like it. so other than a few hard targets (Les Invalides, Orangerie, Catacombs), a lot of our time will be just...strolling thru parks or neighborhoods, ha, which we enjoy and which i am anticipating is going to be fabulously in bloom this time of year! i dig architecture and gardens the most, and my mate tends to get impatient if we're in one spot for too long. so the days feel full but fairly slow-paced.

a third day we will spend in Monmartre...we have a walking food tour in the morning and then will spend some of the afternoon kicking about that neighborhood. the tour includes lunch from the various shops we visit, fun!

and of course our first day which will only be about 65%...just rest, check out our immediate neighborhood, then we have an evening dinner cruise.

with a couple of exceptions (like Lafayette's) i'm not trying to go out of our way for any particular restaurant. there appear to be several within a few blocks of where we're staying in the 17th. i could maybe use recommendations in the Latin Quarter or Marais? otherwise i'm sure we'll stumble on something pretty good. 🙂

Marais has great shopping and restaurants. Latin Quarter restaurants are touristy and not very good. But if you want to sit at a table and spend an hour people watching, it's the best place to do it. The walk between Lux Garden and LQ is one of my favorite walks anywhere. Spend a an hour relaxing in Lux Garden.

In Marais, get pastries from Florence Kahn. Definitely get the pistachio one. It will be one of the best things you'll ever eat in your life.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/x1QNwuSv7N4DKtFp8

Bourdain thought thought Du Pain et des Idees was the best bakery in France. It's really good but it's kinda out of the way. You used to have to get there early or they'd sell out of everything. Not sure what it's like now. We like to Uber there, get some pastries and walk along the canal. If the farmers market is up, spend some time and shop there. Then take an Uber/metro to Marais to lunch and shop.

I never cared for Monmarte. It doesn't have the charm of the Left Bank, LQ, or Marais.

Lourve to Place de la Concorde is a great walk along the Jardin des Tuileries. That's another of my favorite walks.

Definitely visit the Musee des D'Orsay. I think it's better than the Louvre for different reasons. Hire a private tour if possible.

Basically, Paris is a city to be savored. The best way to do it is to slow down and spend time there. I LOVE just aimlessly walking around the city. It's amazingly charming. Doing nothing in a wonderful park is a great way to spend an afternoon. Also Place des Voges is another great park to enjoy an hour or so. It's in Marais.

    https://www.kxan.com/news/crime/take-some-time-to-wear-off-76-year-old-woman-home-when-man-experiencing-homelessness-breaks-in-apd/

AUSTIN (KXAN) — “I thought it was a good time to relax and watch a movie,” 76-year-old Kathy Struck said about the afternoon of March 16. Her daughter Jennifer had just left for the grocery store.

    The back door was unlocked.

“All of a sudden, I turn my head, and there’s a man in my bedroom,” Struck said, adding that the man also went through her pantry and refrigerator.

She said she stayed calm and got him to leave, locking the door behind him.

“Then I heard noise, I heard loud banging,” Struck said. He got back in, breaking through the laundry room window. And his demeanor changed, she said.

“Destroying things, and he was moving the washer and dryer, so at that time, I decided I better call 911,” Struck said. Between the call and the time police got there, Struck said the man got into her toolbox. “They sent a policeman. The minute he saw the man, he pulled his gun and said ‘Drop the hammer.'”

Police said the man was experiencing homelessness.

This happened in central Austin off of North Lamar Boulevard. The Austin Police Department (APD) said the man barricaded himself in the laundry room.

“When officers arrived, they made multiple attempts to get the suspect out of the room using commands and pepper balls,” the department said in a statement. “After a round of pepper balls, officers were successful getting the suspect out and making an arrest.”

While police worked to get the man out of Struck’s house, she said one officer stayed with her in her room.

“He kept me busy talking. We could hear what was going on out there,” she said. Struck said she saw crews take the man away in an ambulance.

He faces burglary charges, according to police.

KXAN learned of Struck’s story when her neighbors reached out about growing homeless activity at an abandoned building nearby on Old Koenig Lane.

The City told us it’s aware of concerns related to the building, and has previously requested support from the Austin Police Department in clearing the camps set up inside. Following code violations related to trash and needing to secure the property – the Develop Services Department says city contractors have repeatedly installed new fences and boarded up the property.

The fire department said a person experiencing homelessness was responsible for a fire at that very building last week. According to the Development Services Department, staff are meeting with the Building Standards Commission next month to request a demolition order.

While police said the man who broke into Struck’s home is listed as homeless, they could not confirm he was staying at that building.

“It’s hard because a large percentage of these homeless people are mentally ill,” Struck said, adding that she feels compassion towards the people setting up camp at the abandoned building.

Her neighbor Samantha Sampson expressed a similar sentiment.

“I don’t blame them for trying to find shelter they’re doing what they need to do to survive as people,” Sampson said.

Austin’s Homeless Strategy Office said staff “and our partners have been regularly conducting outreach in the area,” explaining that includes “services on a voluntary basis” and providing shelter beds when they’re available.

As for Struck, she hopes more help comes.

  4. Has any cattle rancher ever shot his cow or bull because he feared for his life? I can't imagine some rancher shooting the shit at his bfe local coffee joint with his buddies telling the horrific story of having to shoot his bull because he was in fear for his life.

I always have a sidearm on me when I’m away from the house, whether it be working cows or hunting, and never once have I found myself in need of shooting a cow. You obviously do not America.

Older Americans now have twice as many sexually transmitted infections (STI) when compared to a decade ago, a new study has found.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rates of STIs in adults aged 55 and older have doubled over the past decade.

"Rising divorce rates, forgoing condoms as there is no risk of pregnancy, the availability of drugs for sexual dysfunction, the large number of older adults living together in retirement communities, and the increased use of dating apps are likely to have contributed to the growing incidence of STIs in the over 50s", Justyna Kowalska, who is presenting the research, said in a statement.

"These data likely underestimate the true extent of the problem, as limited access to sexual health services for the over 50s, and trying to avoid the stigma and embarrassment both on the part of older people and healthcare professionals, is leading to this age group not seeking help for STIs."

For example, gonorrhea cases rose from 15 per 100,000 people in 2015, to 57 per 100,000 in 2019.

Steven Spielberg had nothing but praise for “Dune: Part Two” while interviewing Denis Villeneuve on the latest episode of the DGA’s “Director’s Cut” podcast. The Oscar winner told Villeneuve that “you have made one of the most brilliant science-fiction films I’ve ever seen,” which is high praise coming from the mastermind behind “E.T: Extra Terrestrial” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” And that wasn’t the only praise Spielberg bestowed upon the “Dune” director.

“It’s an honor for me to sit here and talk to you,” Spielberg said. “Let me start by saying there are filmmakers who are the builders of worlds. It’s not a long list and we know who a lot of them are. Starting with [Georges] Méliès and Disney and Kubrick, George Lucas. Ray Harryhausen I include in that list. Fellini built his own worlds. Tim Burton. Obviously Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro. The list goes on but it’s not that long of a list, and I deeply, fervently believe that you are one of its newest members.”

For these thirsty search terms, we'll look at Thursday, March 14, through Friday, March 22. That's the time frame from when Pornhub's ban went into effect through the time this story was written. Google's data may get updates over time.

One of the top searches for that time period — up 3,500% — was "how to watch porn in Texas?" Lubbock scored highest and the East Texas region of Tyler-Longview and Lufkin Nacogdoches searched for the term second most. Corpus Christ came third, followed by the region encompassing Waco, Temple, and Bryan at No. 4. The top five was rounded out by Austin and San Antonio finished No. 7.

The top search term for VPNs in Texas was "free VPN." The search traffic for this is a close race near the top, but Austin ranked No. 1, followed by Waco, Temple, and Bryan at No. 2; Lubbock at No. 3; DFW at No. 4; and Wichita Falls and Lawton, Oklahoma, at No. 5. San Antonio fell to No. 8 for this search.

Another popular search term is "Pornhub alternatives." Abilene and Sweetwater make an appearance as the area searching the most for this, by a healthy margin. Austin landed spot No. 2; Corpus Christi was No. 3; Amarillo was No. 4; and the East Texas region appears again at No. 5. San Antonio followed closely at No. 6.

Other "breakout" search terms, which means they were up 5,000% or more, include: How to access Pornhub in Texas; VPN; Pornhub VPN; Pornhub access; porn websites; and top porn sites. The list goes on and on with untold numbers of Texans scrambling to find ways to stimulate their visual cortex before they stimulate other things.

  10. https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/dairy-cattle-texas-kansas-tested-positive-bird-flu-108482836

Milk from dairy cows in Texas and Kansas has tested positive for bird flu, U.S. officials said Monday.

Officials with the Texas Animal Health Commission confirmed the flu virus is the Type A H5N1 strain, known for decades to cause outbreaks in birds and to occasionally infect people. The virus is affecting older dairy cows in those states and in New Mexico, causing decreased lactation and low appetite.

It comes a week after officials in Minnesota announced that goats on a farm where there had been an outbreak of bird flu among poultry were diagnosed with the virus. It's believed to be the first time bird flu — also known as highly pathogenic avian influenza — was found in U.S. livestock.

The commercial milk supply is safe and risk to people is low, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dairies are required to only allow milk from healthy animals to enter the food supply, and milk from the sick animals is being diverted or destroyed. Pasteurization also kills viruses and other bacteria, and the process is required for milk sold through interstate commerce, the agency said.

“At this stage, there is no concern about the safety of the commercial milk supply or that this circumstance poses a risk to consumer health,” the USDA said in a statement.

    https://heartlandsignal.com/2024/03/25/minnesota-republican-legislator-opposes-safe-gun-storage-law-citing-killer-cow-threat/

While arguing against a proposal for safe storage requirements for firearms, Minnesota state Sen. Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove) contended that rural citizens need guns readily available to deal with cows.

“You even walk too close to a cow, and it’ll take you down and trample you into dust,” Limmer said. “Fumbling around with a lock while a cow or a bull or any other animal is going after your daughter or your son — you can’t fumble around with a key or try and find the lockbox or put your thumb on a biometric key of some sort in your home while the danger is outside. This bill puts those individuals in even more danger.”

A 13-year-old Tennessee girl was fatally shot and her mother says it was an accident, investigators told news outlets.

Police responded to a call about a shooting at about 10 p.m. March 23 from a home on Nashville’s south side, police told WTVF. First responders arrived to find a teenage girl with a gunshot wound, police said.

The mother told police she was trying to get her keys from her purse and accidentally caused her .40-caliber pistol to fire, striking her daughter, The Tennessean reported. She stored the handgun in her purse without a holster, police said.

The daughter was taken to a hospital for treatment but died in an emergency room, WKRN reported. So far, no charges have been brought against the girl’s mom, according to officials.

As a 4-year-old went down for a nap in bed beside his father’s girlfriend, he reached underneath a pillow, Arizona police say. There, his hands felt a 9mm handgun, Moroni Mendez, an officer with the Glendale Police Department, said at a March 21 news conference.

The Glendale boy fired the gun, accidentally shooting himself in the chest the morning of March 20, Mendez said. “What did you do?” his father’s girlfriend told police she asked him as she “cuddled him in her arms,” court documents show. The woman told police the boy said “he was sorry.”

He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release.

Subsequently, police said the woman, 31, and boy’s father, 44, were arrested. McClatchy News is not identifying the suspects to protect the child’s identity. Each is facing charges of child neglect/abuse, endangerment, and misconduct of weapons stemming from the boy’s accidental shooting, according to police. “It’s just a terrible case,” Mendez said. “It’s one of those cases where we just want to stress the practice of gun safety.”

When officers searched the home, they found .40-caliber rounds throughout the house, including in the master bedroom, court documents show. In addition to finding the 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine beside it, officers also found a rifle round in a men’s jacket inside a closet, court documents show. While searching the back yard, officers found a .40-caliber gun “in the middle of the dirt,” court documents show. Officers also found a handgun magazine in a Dodge Charger, court documents show.
