So what's the Surl thoughts on pour overs? They seem simple enough to me, but quite a bit written about technique and shit.

I have a Hario pour over rig with paper filters, hand grinder and freshly roasted coffee beans. I pour it over directly into my 20 oz Yeti cup.  Every day.  Great coffee.  I control the coffee/water ratio carefully and it is very repeatable. Takes a few minutes of your time each morning unlike an auto drip machine.

We recently got a hot tub and my dog keeps pissing on the side of it and it's making me angry. I go out with him when I can and try to keep him away but obviously, I'm not around for all of his outdoor trips. I always spray the tub off after I catch him doing it. My wife decided to add some water to the tub and in true wifely fashion, she just ditched the hose right there at the foot of the tub, instead of rolling it back up on the hose roller that she insisted on buying. Today the dog pissed on the tub and the hose that was laying next to the tub. She left right before it happened, so I texted her about it. No response yet.

Still waiting for a female to explain why they just drop shit on the spot when they're done with it. My wife and 2 daughters do the same thing. I find random stuff all over because they can't put anything back from where it came.

Just rig up a shock wire and he’ll only piss on it one more time.

  3. The go-to daily drinking wines at my house have been Estancia Cab for years, Decoy Cab and Red Blend, Alamos Malbec, Educated Guess reds, etc.  My wife enjoys the 14 Hands Merlot and La Crema Chardonnay.  These are all in the $12-20 range depending on time & place of purchase.  I will say that on special occasions (Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays...) I’ll step up to a Stags Leap Cab ~$45/bottle or a Caymus at ~$75/bottle if I’m feeling like the Surly 1%.

  4. Wikipedia (I know, I never let my kids cite Wikipedia) has a pretty interesting history of Minstrel shows in America. The first uniquely American art form. Lots of current entertainment and culture have some roots in that form.  Not saying it’s right, but it is not just UT history but American history.  Part of the reason that racism is so deeply ingrained in Americans I expect.

  5. So I’ve always enjoyed the coarser grind type of sausage (German?) that we used to get at a place on the way to Lake Texoma maybe in Muenster?  What type of CenTex sausage does that correspond to?  I like stopping at the Southside Market in Elgin for sausage but it seems more of a finer grind.  Maybe Meyers in Elgin?  A lot of questions here.

We ate there a lot when our kids were little -- was an easy place to get a kid-friendly meal quickly, while mom and dad got something they at least liked.  Problem was, we went so much that the kids drew the wrong lesson from it.

When my daughter was around 2, when my birthday came around, I came home from work, and she greeted me excitedly at the door -- "DADDY!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  For your birthday, we're going to your FAVORITE restaurant!"  "Okay, honey -- and where's that?"  "LUBY'S!"  So that's where we went.  Because when your daughter wants to celebrate at Luby's, you celebrate at Luby's.

I mean, I may have celebrated by ordering an unhealthy meal -- like CFS, fried okra, and mac n cheese, with a slice of chocolate cream pie.

    But no beer.

Damn, now I want some Fuddrucker's.   Always thought it would be cool to do a large scale Cafeteria with some sort of offering/dish from each state.

    In Vegas.

  8. I guess you throw Fudruckers in there as well, owned by the same company.  Down the street from my house is a combo Fudruckers/Luby’s in the same building.  Next door was a PDQ Chicken place (Also closed). All built in the last five years, that block is going to look empty for a while.

Pretty good advice here. Basically the high end is definitely nicer, but it's a law of diminishing returns, and you need to make a judgement call on what it's worth to you. Personally, I buy the higher end stuff for the fit, the cheaper stuff is much more blousey.

That said, if they are a gift I'd probably say use that opportunity to try the nice stuff so you can compare what you buy in the future.

More Americans like the fit of the lower end stuff.
