  1. Appreciate these posts @Ghost of LL.  I remember talking to an aerospace engineering buddy of mine when we were in school in the 80's:  It's more thermally efficient to accelerate a lot of air a little bit than to accelerate a little bit of air a whole lot.  So high bypass engines were/are the wave of the future.  I remember seeing the 777 for the first time and marveling at the large diameter of the engines relative to the diameter of the fuselage.  Now it's commonplace to see those on all airliners.  Those CFM engines on the 737Max are crazy looking.

Start researching foreign exchange rates for cash.

There is usually a street rate for cash exchange that is drastically different than the official exchange.

Basically, the government restricts the purchase of foreign currencies at banks and the government may drastically change the exchange rate at any time, so locals buy foreign currency on the black market as soon as they get paid.

This little custom means that you could get 1.5x to 2.5x the official exchange rate… but some credit cards have started giving the street rate and a new president took power in December and it is all quite confusing.

I had this same experience in Venezuela regarding the “street” exchange rate.  Also, don’t know if this is the case in Argentina but in some African countries a crisp brand new $100 bill brought a better exchange rate than any other denomination.  Don’t bring old wrinkly notes.

  3. I've ridden on the road in traffic for 30+ years.  You have to act like a car, pay careful attention to what the cars are doing around you, and yes, to turn left, check over your left shoulder, and when it's clear, move to the left turn lane.

Don’t believe the Mach E qualifies for the 7500 tax credit as of Jan 1.

Well that sucks.  Looks like Chinese batteries put it out.  Is there any vehicle in the US that qualifies for the full $7500?  Still like the Mach E though.

  5. Anybody have first hand experience with the Ford Mach E (electric Mustang crossover)?  Thinking about this for my wife’s next vehicle now that the kids are gone.  She just drives around suburban Houston and almost never more than 20-30 miles a day.  I’m looking for the utility of a straight electric.  Don’t like Elon and all his shenanigans, so am not seriously looking at Tesla.  Like the idea of the federal rebate.  Pros/cons?  Seems like an electric fits our mission.

I came home to kids and a slurring paranoid bitch still in her PJs, draining her daily Black Box of merlot.  Every evening was a fresh new hell.  She still got half my shit when we split.

Man, that's not funny and all.  Can't imagine drinking a whole "box" of Black Box in one day.  The headache the next morning can only be cured by more Black Box.  Sorry for that, and the kids' experience.

Just wanted to show off my new rear hub that my shop got in from Phil this past weekend. All the mechanics at the shop were giddy as I doubt they'd seen a Phil Wood lately or ever in person. Not the lightest but probably the strongest.

Old school hub and bulletproof wheel.  Work of art really.

Freshman Ricky Williams, Dec 2, 1995 ...last SWC title and first time since 1983 to beat Aggy at Aggy...man that was a rough stretch against gomer from 83 84-94 and this game felt like we finally flipped it, and we did.

FIFY:  83 was an aggy ass whipping.  Rick McIvor holla.

  9. There are practical aspects to all the road cycling specific clothing items that once you’ve ridden a good distance over several hours, you will really appreciate those qualities, and you won’t go without after that.  And you’ll get over the self consciousness feeling quickly.  90% of amateur road cyclists don’t have a perfectly trim shape like the pros. Nobody cares.

Guess what I found on FB marketplace.

A Trek Domane SL5 in near new condition. Just a very small scratch on the bottom bracket. The owner threw in pedals, carbon bottle holder and a bunch of other accessories.

It was a bit above my budget, but 40+% off of a new SL5.

    Black and burnt orange. 🤘
