  1. I think they’d prefer Fickell for sure, but it’s not a guarantee that he’d take that job. He rebuffed Sparty even though they offered him much more money. Penn St is a better job than MSU, but I have a hunch that Fickell might be waiting for Ohio St to open up sometime in the next decade. He really does love Cincy but who knows what he might do. That being said, if he does leave and Cincy offers Elko the job, I’m not sure he’d take it. He’s very content at A&M, and I think he’s holding out for a top 10-15 job.

  2. Now that several big jobs are open, let’s see who goes where.

LSU has Scott Woodward ready to target pretty much anyone he desires while USC seems destined to hire James Franklin. Penn St would likely have Mike Elko on their shortlist if that transpires.

Miami also might be open, and they’d likely go after Cristobal then Kiffin. There’s no way they’d get either with their current leadership, but it’d be interesting to watch.

i just find it very hard to believe that Tepper is willing to eat $50m and change and fire a coach after he has been on the job less than 2 years. plus the $6ish mil they paid to buy him out of Baylor.

that's just SO much money and is admitting you made a huge mistake - then add in how bad it looks when he goes and takes a good college job right after he gets fired...

i think Klatt is the one who said he wasn't all in on the NFL, and while i like Klatt a lot...folks generally don't walk away from ~$50m for much of anything.

As of now, there’s no way Tepper would fire him. The issue is that the Panthers are going downhill fast and have no QB solution going forward. Just wait until late December/early January and see what he might do if they’re 5-12 or worse with no good QBs in the ‘22 class.

Don’t tease me. But then I live in a paradoxical world where I know in my head that it’s best for the conference if Michigan is good. But my heart can’t help but root against them in every game (except when they play Notre Dame).

But when it comes to Ohio State’s fortunes this season, the outcome of this game either way won’t really matter. Both teams are undefeated and one of them is going to take a loss. For now it doesn’t matter to the Buckeyes which one it is.

I’m really looking forward to this game. Of course I’d love to see tOSU ruin Michigan’s undefeated season and win the B1G East. But still...

    GO GREEN!

I think Michigan is the better team, but I like the intangibles of Michigan St and their home environment. I think McNamara will make a key mistake that costs them the game, and their fans will call for McCarthy to start.

  5. He’s hired good assistants and put together a great support staff (Saeed Khalif is one of the premier DPPs in college football). They play well on special teams and usually win the turnover margin battle. They have two very athletic receivers (Jayden Reed and Speedy Nailor) and a good RB in Kenneth Walker III who are explosive plays waiting to happen. That being said, they still have to play three teams who are much more talented than them. I think highly of him, and I think they’ll eke out a win on Saturday.

I'm honestly surprised we're going after a highly ranked 2nd qb in this class. From what I've seen it's been pretty difficult to hang on to 2 big dogs. Is Devin Brown actually interested or is this just wish casting?

I don’t think you should be surprised. Sark and Milwee know how much of a project Murphy is, and Brown has been just as good in camps and better on the field.

  7. Yeah that’s true, though Miami and Tennessee have pretty weak recruiting (and coaching) staffs at the moment. Miami seems to think they can lure Cristobal there, but that seems nonsensical. Georgia is interesting because their elite play this season seems to be remedying lots of mistakes in recruiting over the offseason.

  8. To be clear, I meant Shemar Stewart has A&M as his leader. Evan Stewart is listening to their pitch and will visit A&M this weekend, but I don’t buy their optimism on him. It’ll be interesting to see if Chris Marshall falls in love with Bama in the coming weeks as well.

  9. Who knows, I could be wrong like I probably will be on Stewart to UF (wtf is Dan Mullen doing?). It seems like they’ll get a silent from Nolen this weekend and White is likely already a silent. Stewart has A&M as his leader rn but he’s a South Florida kid so expect the unexpected often. Lucas is strange because his visits don’t line up with his supposed top schools at all.

Have fun in East Lansing, bud. Have to wonder how much we've really been after him this year... dude's barely come up at all, and hasn't exactly set the world on fire on the field.

East Lansing sucks but Tucker is emphasizing receivers in a way Dantonio refused to even consider. Jayden Reed and Speedy Nailor are legitimate weapons. I think he’s good but it’s clear that he hears from Courtney Hawkins every day while he hears from Coleman much less often. This makes sense for him unlike Landon Samson bizarrely choosing to play in South Carolina’s offense.

  11. I think ND vs Cincy is going to be fascinating. Notre Dame is a top 20-25 team who is inferior to Cincy on paper, but September byes sometimes harm more than they help just because there's a chance any sort of early momentum is zapped and you aren't typically banged up yet. If Kelly manages to pull a rabbit out of a hat and get the W, you can start the 12-0 predictions because most of the back half of their schedule is crumbling before our eyes at the moment. Most will root for Cincy, but something about Fickell rubs me the wrong way. It might have to do with how butthurt he's been over Freeman leaving for ND, or it could be that he's an Ohio man. I'll quietly root for ND and hope they stub their toe against Georgia Tech or Stanford (though I don't care much for Shaw).

It wasn't just Clay Travis that led the revolt against Schiano at Tennessee, it was several of the local radio personalities, one of whom led a rally outside the stadium.  I think there was just a groundswell of unreasoning "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" in that fanbase after 10 years of failure and coaching turnover, and they seized on that disputed story about Schiano that came from McQueary's deposition in the Sandusky cases as a focus for their generalized anger.

That was an incredible day and then week to watch from afar.  That hapless AD really had no plan B after Schiano backed out and flew around the country trying to get Mike Gundy, Jeff Brohm, and then Dave Doeren, before going AWOL with a booster's plane and flying out to L.A. to meet with Mike Leach.  Bruce Feldman even tweeted out that they had reached terms with Leach before the University President ordered the AD to come back to Knoxville and said he didn't have the authority to offer Leach the job.  The AD was fired over the weekend, and Phil Fulmer saw his opening to get back in power by becoming the "interim" AD, which of course later turned into a permanent position.  Even after all that, Fulmer still could have pulled a rabbit out of the hat by hiring Mel Tucker, but he went with the Gump who didn't know what asparagus was until he reached his late 20's.

I think Heupel has a chance to succeed there, but he's starting from the bottom of a very deep hole.

Again, that fanbase is absolute trash. It's going to be really fun to keep watching them get stomped into the dirt by Alabama, UF, Georgia, and the good teams from the west they happen to be paired with in any given year. I'm glad they didn't go after Mel Tucker, that's for sure. He's using the portal about as well as any team in the nation, and he's slowly but surely locking down more MI recruits. They have legitimate speed at receiver, a great RB, and a solid OL mostly thanks to their portal acquisitions.

yep. Deyon Bouie is taking an OV to UGA.

    https://247sports.com/player/deyon-bouie-46056593/

That would be embarrassing for A&M if they lost him, considering he's a cousin of Nick Williams (analyst at A&M hired to bring in Bear and Bouie). I don't specifically follow TX recruiting as much as y'all, but it also feels like Perkins is having his doubts about A&M as well. It was always a bit weird that they've considered him a lock for months when Tyler Santucci of all people is his main recruiter.

Maybe not a cultural fit, maybe unable to sustain success because of it, but right damn now Tennessee would be better and tougher on the field.  And we're not really addressing your points, at least I wasn't;  allowing him to be lynched by Clay Travis and his band of merry morons which had wider ramifications than football was, well... moronic.

Yes Clay Travis and the hordes of unwashed East Tennessee denizens were an embarrassment to college football as a whole when they made up that vile shit about Schiano. I really don't ever want to see them recover from this stretch of misery they're experiencing to be quite honest.
