China has lost their god damned mind.

Xi doesn't want to look weak, so Western vaccine adoption has never been on the table. Their Covid-0 strategy means they have almost no population immunity since their vaccines suck so badly (mostly because they are horrendous at high-end manufacturing in every sector). Xi is doomed if their young populace starts to doubt their social contract of each successive generation being better off than their parents' generation.

this is fucking stupid - no it wasn't. Obama won twice, not once. Neither were particularly close. Trump mobilized a base of typical non-voters and people that usually voted got apathetic because Hillary Clinton was a harsh reality no one wanted to face.

Joe Biden won by over 7M votes and ~5% of the popular over Trump. It wasn't as close as the media portrayed it, although it was nerve racking. Obviously there were things that happened post election that made it even more fucking insane. Even if Trump wins in GA and AZ, Joe Biden is still president.

If turnout remains high Republicans will likely never win an election until they come back to center right.

Young liberal/leftist voters are increasingly apathetic with each passing day, so turnout will likely decrease a good bit. Neither party cares about working class voters, so they're increasingly voting in accordance with their social views. President DeSantis will be inaugurated on January 20th, 2025, and it's going to suck.

I'm racking my brain trying to think of a way that "George Clooney" somehow relates to an animal and a tobacco product.

    I got nothing so far.

I'm fairly sure that my current ideology is significantly to the left of that guy.

@George Clooneyis going to have something to say about this

I’ve been MIA because I’ve been black pilled on college football unfortunately. Im glad that players can now earn money, but the relentless march toward determining a true national champion rather than emphasizing conference champions has halted, if not already tanked, the sport’s growth. It seems like King kind of sucks and their receivers still suck? If they figure to have have mediocre to bad QB play again, then I’m reneging on that bet. Call me a pussy or whatever but it was probably dumb to think 10 wins (or was it 9? I don’t care to go back to that conversation) was imminent for them this year.

Actually, a GOP POTUS had the best immigration reform plan of my lifetime: GWB. The GOP made sure it died before it ever got off the ground. That’s when I fully realized that immigration is 1000X more important to the GOP as a topic for demagoguery, vs an issue to actually try to solve. They haven’t sone anything to change that in 20+ years.

Yeah unfortunately many conservatives are increasingly subscribing to Great Replacement Theory-type ideas. David Shor, head of data science at Blue Rose Research, is pretty good at analyzing and explaining electoral trends. His current data suggests DeSantis (assuming Trump is neutered) will win in ‘24 with a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. There’s a very real chance that a jackass like Chris Rufo will be part of the DeSantis/Reynolds administration. We’re fucked because that jackass loves legislation that “preserves family values” (any intelligent person knows what that means). I’ve lurked on this board for a while and used to think you were too dramatic, but you’re spot on about what the GOP really wants America to look like.

some of it was absurd, some naive and some had a ring of truth (or even more than a ring of truth. I like contrarianism which this was- essentially inflation no big deal and the headlines will go away in a couple months naturally and on their own when we start comparing YOY prices to a place in time once the elevator already started going up last year which I made a version of the same argument.

    Spoiler

From 1993 to 1997 Galbraith served as chief technical adviser for macroeconomic reform to the State Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China.

The article made more sense when I looked up his bio. I agree that it is mostly naive considering the appetite for large-scale socialist reform exists largely in the millennial/gen z cohort.

The fans were pretty cruelly against him throughout the match so I have no doubt he considers this post-match applause insincere. They cheered on errors, double faults, etc. from him and made a lot of intentional noise in between his first and second serves throughout. He was unnerved by it to the point where he was asking the chair umpire to step in to stop the disruptions.

This is the correct take. There’s no place in tennis for some of the jackassery by that crowd today.

Fuck Aaron Rodgers.  It's not hard to see why his regular season numbers and wins are so inflated vs. his playoff failures.  He's guaranteed 6 games per year against the Bears, Vikings and Lions.

Eh I think his lack of playoff success compared to the greats is more to do with a lower level of focus/preparation during game prep. Every great QB has faced easy schedules fairly often during their careers. He has a better arm than any other QB of the past two decades or so (though several others have superior arm strength) in my opinion. It's kind of strange to watch him in tough moments in the playoffs before losses because he seems too nonchalant for his own good.

Seriously. Does anyone really like the guy? The other day my 18 y.o. said "I'm pretty sure even his teammates don't like him". My wife (no pics) is a Packers fan (who knows why), but she doesn't like him either.

Fuck that POS. He's been a bitch ever since college, esp when he cried about Mack (FMB, too). And he's just as big of a bitch as he ever was.

He deserves this wave of scorn, but his teammates (at least on the offensive side of the ball) have generally gotten along with him in his tenure there. He's especially good friends with Bakhtiari and Adams. It's going to be very interesting to see if he asks for a trade in the coming months, and I think Packers fans ought to be careful what they wish for considering Jordan Love likely isn't ready to be anything more than average next year (and carries a high risk of being an outright bust). It's strange to say, but the Lions likely have the best front office in that division rn. They have an unproven coach and no clear QB plan, so success is hardly guaranteed but not far-fetched either.

As mentioned previously, I don’t care much for Sinner, but I hope that he kicks Tsitsipas’ cheating rhino-nose’s ass.

Even before the cheating, I never cared for Tsitsipas. I won't argue with you about Sinner's lack of personality, but I still grew to like him while watching the Next Gen Finals in '19. He'll almost assuredly lose to Medvedev in straight sets in the SF if he wins tonight, but you never know until it happens.

Yeah, in Rodgers' defense, it seems like his family equally sucks.

It’s probably inappropriate to speculate, but I think he’s bi and disagrees with his family’s (presumptive) opposition to that considering they’re seemingly part of the religious right. Even if that were accurate, his behavior is still immature (unless they ever tried to suggest something like conversion therapy in which he’d be justified). This is probably the wrong forum for that but oh well.

Right? Pretty sure his own family won’t speak with him, but yeah people are just mad bc of politics

Not that it makes the situation any better, but I think he was the one who cut off contact.

Packers by at least 4 TDs, I might not even watch any of it. The 49ers are fucking horrible. Jimmy G sucks & Shanahan is a terrible coach. Not usually a good combo. Especially not against Aaron Rodgers.

We'll see if this ages as well as your Steelers pick last week because "you should always trust Big Ben in the playoffs".

I for one am simply shocked that a @Helobious prediction is looking fucking stupid. Sorry you got branding iron'ed Cowboys fans.

I think he also said the Steelers will win tonight because "never doubt Big Ben in the playoffs" or whatever. Ben is now the worst of the 14 playoff QBs (even Hurts is a little better).
