  1. What was it like being able to confidently plan for the future? Especially as a Texas resident with two young kids, I find this incredibly difficult to do.

My wife and I have valuable skills, but the mid-level healthcare worker designation doesn't necessarily travel outside the country well. Domestic stability seems like it would have been pretty cool to experience past my 20's.

    I just...I just don't get it.

Pretty much every week something happens to make me question my sanity. When I think that 100 MILLION adult US citizens think everything happening is all well and good or don't care enough to do the bare minimum to try and prevent this spiral, it seems equally likely that I've just lost my mind.

  3. Yea, I don't see this going particularly well for any of us. If Trump sent the National Guard to DC because Big Balls got a bloody nose, what's his response to this going to be? Not to mention the crazies, and the retaliation to the retaliation, and so on.

As others mentioned on the Kirk thread, Trump didn't get seriously injured and the Minnesota pols were not well known prior to their assassinations. Kirk clearly has a huge following of young men who feel disadvantaged in a culture obsessed with guns. I can really see this event cranking things up to 11.

This could be posted on other threads but it's succinct here. This is Trump's America. A big fuck you to everyone, including the dipshits who voted for him.

I wonder how my multi-generation Minnesota farmer relatives, who most certainly voted for Trump, are doing these days.

  5. AZ state lost to Mississipi State and KSU lost to Army. I guess you could argue Tech and Utah depending how their records end up, but does Texh play anybody non-con?

  6. You're right about nesting season, but I believe they will use the boxes as roosting sites as well. I don't have a box, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them in hanging out in the ones near my house throughout the year.

  7. That's not to say I'm not super excited about Italy. But neither of us have been to Europe at all, so just being over there is going to be a revelatory experience, even without what I would consider the perfect itinerary.

No offense, but when I think Tuscany beaches is pretty much at the bottom of the list.

Why do all that traveling to sit on a beach when you can do it easily in the U.S.?

I don't really care about the beach, but my wife and oldest child do. I'd love to hop from village to village in Tuscany and then go hike in the mountains. I can give them a couple days at the beach, then finish the meat of the itinerary with things that will be enjoyable for everyone and give us a more authentic experience.

And then when I want to go to the Colombian Andes with my homies and look for jungle critters 6 months later, I can remind my wife of our amazing Italian getaway that was catered to her desires, and convince her she wants to take a week off work for some quality 1-on-2 time with our kids.

  9. Studying up a little bit more, I think I'd like to pivot back to the mainland and center the trip in Tuscany. It looks like there are some decent beach towns that would be easily accessible, even if they aren't as picturesque or unique as some of the island beaches. I think a couple days on the beach should satisfy that component of the trip anyway, and then we could relocate to an Agriturismo and day trip from there.

  10. I would gladly leave my kids with my parents for a couple weeks, but there is basically no chance of convincing my wife to do that. And the desire to go international when they are too young to appreciate it is because we've been putting shit off for nearly a decade now.

She was just starting grad school when we got married in 2018, then Covid hit, then we got pregnant, then we got pregnant again. I definitely have some hesitancy,  but would also like to rip the bandaid off at some point and go somewhere different. It would also be nice to get a big trip in before we are ruled by school schedules and forced to travel during the busy season. Is Italy a bit ambitious? Probably.
