  1. I get the refund for bags arriving late, no wifi if you paid for it, etc.  That's a service the airline failed due to some incompetence on their part.

But refunding  tickets if you're late or flight is cancelled?  Surely there is some fine print around if it's due to airline being at fault. Bad weather delays and cancels flights all the time.  I don't see how this does anything other than raise prices to cover the inevitable refunds.  Maybe I'm missing something.

  2. Was trying to remember if Live Bullet was the record my dad used to play over and over that got me into Seger at an early age.  But it was the other live album--Nine Tonight.  That was like a Greatest Hits Live album, with a few new songs mixed it.

how?  share your wisdom and link to your newsletter.

our Hays properties are up ~10%.  protesting property assessments, my hobby i guess.  every damn year.

    Same here for Hays.

    Appraised value up 10%.

"Market value" down 15%, but still 12% higher than appraised.  So I assume I have 0% chance of winning any challenge.  The market value seems to be pretty close to what I could sell it for.

If you’re in Austin, I got a great tailor for tuxes/suits.  She does brilliant work and quick turnaround.

I never understood September/Early October weddings in Texas.  It’s not just football, it’s not just about saving some off-peak money.  It’s still fucking hot as balls.  It’s one thing to ask your groomsmen to spend 10 hrs in a dark wool jacket in 95* weather.  It’s another thing to ask your obese Aunt or elderly grandmother to stay in formalwear for that amount of time as well.  /rant

I am in the Austin area and would love a name for a tailor.

So in addition to the wedding in mid August (in SC) in which I need the tux, I just received a save the date for a wedding on August 31st in Austin.  Was the surface of the sun already booked?  I'm sure folks are going to love sacrificing Labor Day weekend and the first full weekend of college football to come to your wedding and sweat their balls off.  And neither he nor his fiancé are from Texas, so their closest family and friends will all have to travel.  At least this is local for me.

Not me, but my business partner:

About 13 years ago his daughter and last remaining child living in the house was finishing up medical tech school and was planning on moving out.

In anticipation of not having tuition or a child in the house to pay for, he started work on his dream man cave. He tore down the old garage and rebuilt it and redid all of the drive with some pretty cool hard scape work. Inside he had a kitchen, bath, and open area where he put his new pool table. All surfaces were hard and could be washed down with a hose if need be. It even had floor drains. The fridge was stocked with plenty of beer and nothing else. Antlers and other hangings not suitable for the house were placed about the room and got it just like he wanted.  He even beat cancer during this time. Life was good.

Well, the daughter did not move out, so while she was living there no crazy parties were allowed.

Eventually, daughter met someone and he had to fork over a bunch of money for the wedding. Like 30 grand or something. But it would be worth it he thought, just so she could be out on her own with her husband making their way in the world.

Unbeknownst to him, his wife promised them they could live at home to save money.

So the man cave had to be converted to a residence. All new flooring, new kitchen, new bath, new bedroom walls, closet walls, and lighting. Pool table had to go to storage along with all of the other trappings.

He thought it would be ok after  a few years when they moved out after saving some money for a house.

Well, that day never came because his daughter freaked out and got a divorce 6 months after getting married. So daughter moves back into the house and garage apartment sits empty.

So after about a year when the coast is clear, business partner converts garage apartment back into a man cave. Walls are torn down, new flooring, new kitchen, new bath Yada Yada yada. All the while, daughter is still living at home.

He has been enjoying his man cave for a few years now worry free. His daughter even met another guy a few years back and he has a good job so her days at home are numbered.

So last week on Thursday, he doesn't show up for our usual beer drinking meeting even though he says he would be coming right over (he basically lives across the street from our office/yard).

So I walk on over to see what's up and he and his wife are under the man cave patio-talking. I can tell I am interrupting, so say my hellos and leave.

The next day I apologize for interrupting and he just shakes his head. He says his wife told him that his daughter wants to buy a house and move out and wants to move in with her boyfriend to save money. He asked where they were moving and his wife tells him, she said it would be ok if they moved into the man cave, after it was converted back into an apartment. Face palm.

No, but the fact is that if you're going to bring him back, this team better damn well be performing well. Most people don't see that with this bunch.

I don’t follow this nearly as closely as most on this thread, which also means I'm not as emotionally invested as others.  "Most people" don't make the decisions. Greg just won Nations League by beating our top rival 2-0. I don't believe not making COPA America semis will be seen as a collosal failure to the guys making the decisions.

We're not Germany, which means results are somewhere farther down the list of performance metrics than any fan of US Soccer wants.  Greg is a company man.  The decision makers rehired this clown after everything that went down during and after the World Cup, lukewarm support from players, ex-players, and media, and having parted ways when his contract ended. He's the guy through the WC.

I think the Semis are a good hope, but to keep his job, Gregg has to do more.

Is there any indication whatsoever that Gregg is at risk to lose his job if he doesn't get a certain result in the tournament?  They REHIRED the guy, when they already had a built in solution to move in another direction.  Get used to him remaining on the sidelines.

Oh I figured. The problem is, that’s tomorrow.

Had one 3 weeks ago.  I thought it was quite simple.  The prep stuff I had this time was much easier than the large volume I had to drink 7 years ago.

Dissolve some stuff in a pint of water.  Drink.  Then drink another pint of water.  Repeat with 2nd dose a few hours later.

  9. We've seriously considered moving to Crested Butte. We have 3 kids aged 7 through 12. We spend at least 2-3 weeks each summer--in 2021 we spent 9 weeks--and usually a week in the winter. Wife doesn't particularly care for the cold, which is a problem, but manageable.

We're outdoors people, and CB has it in abundance.  The school is quite good and has a surprising number of kids.  Amazon delivers and Gunnison is a 30 min drive for just about anything else, which includes a decent grocery store and a Walmart.  CB grocery store has been upgraded and is quite nice as well.

The thing we can't get over is April-May and Sept-Nov when there is fuckall to do. April and May are muddy as shit with the runoff, and folks we've met that have moved there say the Fall is heavily dependent in weather.  Early snows means more limited things to do outside.

Cocktail belongs on this list.  The movies is borderline bad but it's so quoteable and has a ton of people in it.  Points for both Kelly Lynch and Elisabeth Shue.

You're ashamed to admit you like Cocktail?  That is peak Cruise coolness, peak Shue hotness, smokin' hot Kelly Lynch (admittedly terrible actress in this), and Gina Gershon.  And as you said it's so damn quotable.  Shit, I didn't even mention Bryan Brown, and he's probably the best thing in it.  I'm a card carrying member of the Cocktail fan club.

    Ashamed??

We went out Friday night to dinner and to see Fortune Feimster (btw she’s funny as shit) at a theater within a 10 minute walk to the restaurant. We were in a winter storm warning for 4-8” snow and it had started to snow on the drive over. We live in the north, no major ordeal.

We were waking away from the car and Mrs. Ace asked me to go back and get our snow brush/scrapper tool so we can have it with us to brush the car off when we return after the show.

I told her no and that I would take care of the car when we get back like normal while she enjoys her seat warmer turned up to level 168 and scrolls TikTok. There is zero reason to carry around a foot long telescoping piece of plastic into a restaurant and theater.

    Yada yada yada...

In shocking news, the theater told me the tool wasn’t allowed inside. Guess who didn’t volunteer to walk it back to the car.

You missed the part of your story where you did exactly as you were told because she laughed at you and told you to get your fucking shinebox.  I added it in.
