  1. Big fan of this watch. Put mine on this white Hybrid strap from Under the Cuff and it's a fantastic combo. Much sportier.

The only downside on this watch is the Miyota is loud. Didn't bother me but I know it does some people.

I've chatted with Nathan a couple times and he's a really nice guy.

Another great Austin brand is DuFrane.2023_0722_18261300.jpg

  2. I like those old programs, especially those with cover art by Chase. Do you collect significant games, or just ones that come as opportunities?
I had a chance to buy quite a few at once so I did. Veggie that just piecemealed a few here and there. The people I bought the largest part of the collection from kept the most significant games for the most part. So I focused on the NC seasons and anything pre-1984. I do have two copies of the Texas Navy Cotton Bowl. And some other important games as well.

I have my tickets from the 2006 NC game framed with a photo of the Tower lit up. The AS and LAT front pages framed. I also have a UT football signed to me from Vince Young right after the 2005 Big XII championship and a helmet signed by Colt McCoy.

I love the cover art on the programs though. Just phenomenal.

I need to get a better setup for my longhorn room so I can display everything properly.

  3. No first hand experience. I think generally they look like knockoffs of more expensive watches but not in a good way - garrish and chintzy. Just my opinion. Looks good on you though.

It seems people who have them seem to like them. And I've been known to be wrong.

Are you looking for a Chronograph specifically?

  4. Daily. I truly appreciate the mechanical craftsmanship and design of mechanical watches. As a result I don't have many mass-produced watches and focus on independents. I also appreciate that I can actually talk with the watchmakers themselves and understand their vision and inspiration and develop a long term relationship. Means more to me than watches that roll off an assembly line.

Hand craftsmanship is a dying art.

  5. There’s a lot to unwrap here. I think my biggest issue is with Union Kitchen? Really? You’re actually recommending Union Kitchen?
Yes, it's fine. If I could go anywhere in town, I'm not going there, but if I'm looking to go within a few minutes of Nottingham Forest, then yes. It isn't as good as Jonathan's. It's on par with Hungry's and UAK. None are winning awards but they are all pretty good places to grab a bite.

If he wants fine dining, then there are certainly other options, but it sounded like he was asking about neighborhood restaurants.

Feel free to enlighten me. What are all the great semi-casual dining spots within 5 or so minutes of Nottingham Forest?

  6. As someone who grew up over there...You have a very important decision to make....well it used to be important.
You will either be a La Hacienda family like we were or you can be wrong and be a Los Tios family.

I can't vouch for either these days, But in the 80's-early 90's La Hacienda was bomb.com

    Los Tios

And you shouldn't be a Los Tios family. La Fiesta 1A, La Hacienda 1B... Los Tios C.

Bacaro is pretty good. Urban American Kitchen is as well. Pizarro's is overrated and overpriced. Hungry's has some good food.

Drive down Memorial to Jonathan's or The Union Kitchen. Jonathan's in particular is outstanding.
  7. If anyone is looking for a relatively standard field watch with some very nice finishing touches, Wasson Watch Company makes a Field Watch. They are offering $300 off for Father's Day. Code Dad23.

  8. This is my Direnzo.  Nice choice BTW.

Yes, one of the originals. You can see how the design language carries through, but certainly modified over the years. Great looking watch!

I'm super pumped about the DRZ02 Aerolite. But I like funky watches.

  9. Latest acquisition. The DRZ03 Eclipse with meteorite dial. I'm usually not a fan of Meteorite dials, but this one is so subtle I like it.

Direnzo is probably my favorite microbrand.

  10. Any recommendations? Looking for thick stock, embossed, with a very detailed logo. I've been told by the designer it may not be possible with hot stamping and may require gilding from thin mints without a matrix. He also mentioned digital and offsetting. I don't know what any of that means.

Tried Alpha Graphics and they really couldn't do it so looking for someone else to contact.

  11. I need to grab a Rolex for a gift. The AD I’ve used for a couple purchases here in ATX said you can’t even order them like I had previously…choosing face, band, etc…and a few months later it was here.
I know the “shortage” is a bit nuts and the after market is big…just curious what sources any of y’all may have used for a Rolex recently? Chrono24? Any other places I should check out? Will want new.
    TIA
    \m/

Absolutely new or just mint with all boxes and papers? And what are you looking for specifically? I have a few contacts I can see if they can get one for you.

Takuya and David SW are definitely reputable. Chrono24 is worth looking around but they charge a fee to sellers so y may not be willing to drop as much knowing they are taking the hit. That said, if it's a company/dealer selling it they will indicate that at the bottom of the listing. Call them direct and they can avoid that fee.

  12. I like scratched face dials and I like the original Sinn U50 scratched face dial that came out a few years ago. But this dial looks like shit. Probably why he's selling it.

This is an ochs und junior with a scratched face dial. Much more even and subtle effect. It can be more pronounced in different lights but that Sinn is just a mess. Here's one of the originals, which I like.2023_0509_21464400 (1).jpgScreenshot_20230514_052115_Google.jpg

  13. Ordered an AnOrdain, and am quite impressed with the level of "custom" service on what is not that expensive a watch (~$1500). Tons of (much) more expensive mass market product that doesn't give this level of personalization.
On top of already being able to select multiple strap options prior to checkout, and offering custom engraving or map graphics engraving at no additional charge, here are the custom questions after order.
Even strap length choices are uncommon, but regulation to account for which wrist worn and storage position at night?? Unheard of:
So that we can tailor the watch to your specifications, could you please confirm:
    • your preferred strap length (please refer to our fitting guide)
    • which wrist the watch will be worn on (we will use this information to regulate the watch)
    • which position the watch will be stored in at night (for example, dial facing up)
    • the name of the wearer as you'd like it to appear in the certificate of authenticity
Yep, love my anOrdain and it's a great value for the customization options available. I'm a huge fan of independent watchmaking.

If anyone in this thread likes independents, I've been building a community for independent watchmakers and enthusiasts. Still in the early stages but feel free to DM if you're interested.2023_0425_16075200 (3).jpg
