  1. Ordered an AnOrdain, and am quite impressed with the level of "custom" service on what is not that expensive a watch (~$1500). Tons of (much) more expensive mass market product that doesn't give this level of personalization.
On top of already being able to select multiple strap options prior to checkout, and offering custom engraving or map graphics engraving at no additional charge, here are the custom questions after order.
Even strap length choices are uncommon, but regulation to account for which wrist worn and storage position at night?? Unheard of:
So that we can tailor the watch to your specifications, could you please confirm:
    • your preferred strap length (please refer to our fitting guide)
    • which wrist the watch will be worn on (we will use this information to regulate the watch)
    • which position the watch will be stored in at night (for example, dial facing up)
    • the name of the wearer as you'd like it to appear in the certificate of authenticity
Yep, love my anOrdain and it's a great value for the customization options available. I'm a huge fan of independent watchmaking.

If anyone in this thread likes independents, I've been building a community for independent watchmakers and enthusiasts. Still in the early stages but feel free to DM if you're interested.2023_0425_16075200 (3).jpg

  2. I went out of my way to look this up for you and check myself.
That's just a generic composition that whoever is in charge of the show's soundtrack happened upon. Or composed themselves.
It sounds nice but it's extremely basic.
Yeah, I messaged the Music supervisor. Found a website he apparently uses but no real way to search easily. Basic or not, I love it. Thanks for checking. I'll see if he responds.
  3. So in episode 6 of season 2, there's an instrumental while they show the living fence. Right at the 30 minute mark. Anyone have any idea what this song is?

    Soundshound/Shazam/Google were unsuccessful.

Thoughts on Alpina? This is apparently a gift option for my service anniversary. I'm a sucker for a sunburst blue dial and this is a classic, clean look IMO. Just don't know enough about the reliability of their products. The bit of research I've done is that they're not well known by the masses or even many watch enthusiasts, they're more of a "if you know, you know" brand.
I like Alpina, but no experience owning one. There's a guy on YouTube who is a big fan, Pete McConville. A watch channel worth...drumroll...watching.

  5. Amy bumped with the notice they had entered into a Memorial of Understanding. I would imagine at the end of that there will be a contract agreement and I hope that is the instigator. Latest news was that the pilot plant was operating and recovering as intended. Hopefully soon something official is announced. Maybe @Harrison Stafford has more info.

  6. I sold 40% as it's gone up. Sold 60% of what was remaining this morning at $3 and then another 20% at 2.86. I'll hold the remaining 20%. Bought in at $2 originally and then a couple other times near $1. So I'll take the win and let the rest ride.

  7. This looked and felt great on my wrist …..

I really liked the Santos when I tried it on. Extremely comfortable and looked great. Still ended up going with the GO 70s that I was considering at the same time.
  8. A really good friend of an attorney I work with sat next to Disu's parents at the Penn State game. They absolutely LOVE Terry and apparently the entire team does as well. That bodes well for keeping this class together and recruiting going forward.

I have a hard time believing with Terry's ability to hold things together this season during incredibly difficult circumstances, getting to the Sweet 16 (hopefully further), and having the unbridled support of the current players and parents that they don't hire him. That continuity considering the tumultuous turn of events re: Beard can't be underestimated.

Probably not my first choice but he's done enough to have earned a shot, imo. If they hire him, they need to commit to it and give the guy at least a 4 year contract. Can't hamstring him from the start.

  9. I really can't say enough good things about Direnzo watches. Really well made and fantastic design. I posted the DRZ04 Mondial before, but this DRZ03 Eclipse is just as good. Love how the Eclipse is actually implemented into the dial and not just a name.

If you're looking for a sub-$1000 watch that's high quality and something a little different, definitely worth looking into. 1388cb76630cd5f6786549cd1a4c64be.jpg7f537b85eab7d41cb58290de6ac1fa3c.jpg

  10. Pretty much the same here.

The first couple of episodes were meh. But I’ve been liking it more than I would have thought. Watching episode 7 right now
Good to hear because I haven't been motivated to watch more of it after the first 2. Will continue.
  11. Traska is having a spring release in March.  50 buck deposit (will apply to watch purchase) will get you on a list to buy.
Traska makes some nice watches. People sleep on microbrands but there are some great smaller brands out there.
  12. I've really just been wearing my speedy since the pandemic started. I bought that Casio F-91W to wear while cycling, which opened the door for other watches to hop on my wrist and I'm remembering how much I love this Stowa Flieger 36. On the edge between this thread and the other, but I paid $750 for it used and they're talking about Pateks in the other thread so I'll call it affordable.

It had been keeping shitty time (2012 watch never serviced) so I had it serviced alongside my pogue, but still hadn't put it back on. At about -3 seconds a day. Time seems to move quicker when this big white second marker is just smoothly sweeping along the outer edge of the dial.
Gorgeous watch! I've kind of been considering sun $1k as affordable. I realize it varies from person to person, but that's a great watch at $750.
  13. Another watch I would highly recommend although I don't own one yet is the Delft Watch works Oostsport. One of the owners of the brand has another line of watches that are much higher end. But he's a fantastic watchmaker and this is a great looking watch.

    About $800Screenshot_20230118_105256_Chrome.jpg

  14. Two brands I can definitely recommend I the $750-850 range are the Direnzo DRZ04 and the Orion Hellcat.

I also highly recommend the Formex Field on the adjustable strap - sub-$1000.

Another microbrand I like for under $1k is the Straum Opphav.

Finally, if you like a cushion case, I love the Duckworth Prestex. I think it's sub $750.
