Which was also the cheapest thing on the menu back in the late 80s, something like 1.99,  so therefore that was my go-to order.

I was there last fall and decided to try it for old times sake and well, I'm glad I have a little money now.

In the early 90s I could get a pitcher of Shiner Bock for $3.50 and drop that huge 14% tip to make it an even $4.

milagro and bee caves are terrible.

Agreed.  At this point I can only do W. 7th or N. Lamar locations.  And even so, neither of them are what they used to be.  But Milagro is just flat-out gross the last two times I went.  Won't do it again.

  3. Ryan Reynolds has hooked up with the hottest chicks, over-acted badly in many of his early roles, made hundreds of millions of dollars on business dealings on top of his movie earnings, and even owns an English soccer team.  There are so many reasons for me to be jealous of him and hate him.

    But I don't.  I can't.  Instead, he is my man-crush.

    LFG

The multiverse is simply too confusing and not compelling when it seems there's no stakes. People have revisionist memories with the whole infinity saga. Not every movie was a banger that everyone says, Iron Man 2 and 3 were mostly forgettable, they made a hulk movie I guess, Thor didn't work until the 3rd movie, Ant Man 1 was a tonal mess, Avengers 2 was a letdown, no one liked Hawkeye or Black Widow at first and Civil War was just OK. RDJ, Brolin and Chris Evans made Endgame work

Ant Man 1 was widely enjoyed by many, and was a refreshingly different style of movie compared to most of the rest of the MCU.  They weren't really able to recapture that in 2 or 2 IMO, but the first one was extremely entertaining.

Wow, that speech would have added so much weight to that movie, it's a shame they didn't take the opportunity to use it. I get why they kept it lighter, but I think that gut punch of a story could have worked to pull at everyone's heart strings. It would be remembered totally differently if they did it.

I don't know.  I think the speech is a little clunky and a little too obvious.  I like that the movie in its final form leaves some of this open to the observer, for interpretation and reflection.  Mentioning that he has no home and Marie died 8 years ago is more then enough to allow me to then understand Del's actions throughout the movie.  I hate it when screenwriters underestimate the viewer and hit us over the head with dialog.  I think the movie worked perfectly without the speech.

I'm surprised Taco Deli wasn't lumped in with these two in that article. All three overpriced, over-conceptualized tacos for day-drinking Circle C MILFs.

It's kinda sad because I feel like the original Taco Deli on Spyglass was really good when they first opened 20 years ago...

Taco Deli was really good originally.  They've changed the menu considerably and tossed a lot of my favorites, probably right around COVID when so many other things changed as well.  The puerco borracho was fantastic, would love to see it back on the menu but alas.

    "Texas here in Austin-"

    "Ewwwww."

This is such a common and strange reaction from aggies I meet living and working in Austin.  It's not like it should be any surprise encountering Texas grads in the same city where the university is located-- if you choose to live here you really ought to know what you're getting into.  If encountering Texas grads is going to be a remarkable and unpleasant experience for you, then Austin is probably not the city for you.

Or we need to reduce and meet in the middle. Sounds like I need to bite the bullet and look into home solar.

No way man, do you even read this board?   Surlys MUST run their air conditioners at 68 throughout the summer.

Yes. At least get Iran to agree to a ceasefire and get it to (temporarily) cease funding terror campaigns. I’m not sure some of yall realize how bad ass Israeli military is. Head to head, Israel would absolutely obliterate Iran. Is this a real question?

Actual photo of Israeli army massing right now:

    Same here for Hays.

    Appraised value up 10%.

"Market value" down 15%, but still 12% higher than appraised.  So I assume I have 0% chance of winning any challenge.  The market value seems to be pretty close to what I could sell it for.

You never know.  If you can show that the comps being used for the market valuation aren't directly comparable to your house (more recently renovated, etc.) and can show that more similar houses are selling for less, then you could make a case.  My FIL protests every year, and eventually when he retired he served on the Travis County board that handles disputes.  As long as people came in and told a reasonable story, he said they'd often cut at least some if it.

Say what now? Haven’t paid the most attention but what’s the disconnect from this:

The New York Times cited four unnamed Israeli officials as acknowledging that Israel was responsible for the attack.

Not saying there for sure was an attack but seems like the Iranian  embassy was attacked by Israel.

He's saying it's in question whether or not that was in fact an "embassy."  Israel definitely did it.

got some folks in from out of state and want to take them to get some good bbq for early supper today. we're in central austin.  it seems like every time i drive by Black's it's slammed. Anyone tried to go there early dinner time lately?  any other spots you can rec?

Really the only decent BBQ joints near central Austin that have true dinner dining room hours are Terry Black's on Barton Springs and Stiles Switch on North Lamar.

Finally getting to eat some crawfish for the first time in the year of our Lord 2024. Buddy of mine having a small boil tomorrow. Our mutual supplier that drives a refrigerated truck over from LA on the weekends is down to $3.75 for large mix. Still high, but comfortably in the realm of "tolerable" and there's usually very little dead loss or undersized mudbugs in his sacks.

Man $3.75 seems like an absolute steal for THIS season, enjoy!

None of my friends that normally do boils are having them this year, for obvious reasons I suppose.  So II've hit up restaurants several times this season, paying outrageous sums, but don't care, had crawfish.
