  1. Like 686 suggested, I have a friend with a 24' pontoon that serves as the center of our flotilla, it's awesome.  Several other friends have runabouts and wakeboard boats, so we've always got a variety of options and activities.  The pontoon has two grills so we never have to break up to go eat, or bother with cold sandwiches.  It's a nice setup.

Takes one to know one, Lewis!  :)

Finally finished the race, what a fun one to watch after Australia was a bit of a bummer.

But, WTF Ferrari?  Sure hope that mechanic recovers quickly, that looked nasty.

Just bought my first boat today. Yeah, it’s an old man party barge tritoon. So I’m almost embarrassed to say it is a “boat”. But it floats. Bought my lake house a year ago in April and felt it wholly inappropriate to not own a boat. On a lake. And I wanted something that would accommodate a dozen folks, be reasonably comfortable at that number, and provide a “home base” for swimming and mooring my jet skis. Went with a Sweetwater 22 footer with the 27” upgraded tritoon package (and whopping 45 gallon capacity) for added stability. And packaged it with a 150 hp ETEC and ski setup for some added fun and versatility. Hope I don’t regret it. Was leaning a wakesurfer/ski setup Malibu. But thought this was more practical for what it will be used for majority of the time.

Will post pics once I take delivery. Boat house is old, far too small (single slip) and in serious disrepair, so building a new one now. Won’t be able to get it out and in the water until that is finished. So i guess i put the boat before the boathouse, or something like that.

    Still excited. For now.

    Congrats!

    And condolences!

  4. The chile gravy at Maudie's is great, pretty much the same as Enchiladas y Mas.  Standard cheese enchiladas are the thing to order. Strait Plate with fried egg is also great.  I don't really ever order anything else.

Cool.  Haven't been back to Austin since 2002. I'm already preparing for the culture shock of seeing how much has changed since I was in college.

    Yeah... it's gonna be.... different.

Welcome back to town, though!  Not ALL of the change is bad.  B|

I miss AusTexMex and the original ghetto Jorge’s on Hancock. Those were the best Tex mex in town.

They were good, but Carmen's La Tapatia on E 6th was the best TexMex in town.

Whitestone has a Macallan aged Doppelbock right now and it's fucking delicious.

Word up, drank the heck out of that Friday night when I was there to hear the live music.  Really delicious.

I like it. It’s solid. Salsa and chips are good. Tortillas are great (for Austin). I think it’s a better overall restaurant than Y Mas but if I want enchiladas, it’s Y Mas all the way.

Enchiladas are pretty much all that matter, so...

But yeah, Matt's is fine.  Food is decent, atmosphere is good, nostalgia is great.  It's an Austin/UT institution.

  11. Cancun itself isn't great.  But I love Playa del Carmen, and lots of folks around here really like Isla Mujeres.  You fly into Cancun for both of those.

In Playa del Carmen proper, I really like The Royal as an AI.  On the beach, right in town so there are tons of activities to do outside the hotel, food is very good, and drinks are real.  Oh and it's adults-only.

There are also many non-AI hotels in Playa, and VRBO type places as well.

I don't know anything about Isla Mujeres but lots of shagsters (surlsters?) are big fans and you'll probably get plenty of recs from them.

PG movies back then were completely different

Yeah, there were quite a few PG movies that actually showed boob.

Even Goonies had a lot more mildly bad language than I remembered, I was recently watching it with my 8yo son and 10yo daughter and I had to keep telling them in asides, "Don't say that!"

Soto up at Lakeline is arguably the best meal I've had in Austin. Dropped some coin, but it was sublime. No worse than Uchi/Uchiko, and arguably better. The waitstaff there has been consistently the best I've had anywhere. They know their shit.

Yup, it's really great food.  Love that place.

Yeah so my heb charged $23 for the 4 pack. Is that right?

Well, if you think of it as Bar pricing, it's not quite so painful.  I really like it so I'll usually buy one 4-pack when I can find it.  But there are plenty of other great beers available for a lot less than that, so...

Didn't read the book, and dont plan on it.  I'm curious how much of the video game/movie icons in the book matched what was shown in the movie.  Also, I'm surprised there were no Star Wars references or was that a Disney issue?

If you're really all that curious, then read the book.

If you are doing the same pub crawl I did you'll have a blast.  Good way to meet people from all over.

Fred and ginger building then hit the prague beer museum pub.  Good beers.

U Fleka is the ultimate tourist restaurant but still a fun time.

Find U Hrocha pub near the bottom of the castle.  A Pils with the smoked fish is amazing.

Just to clarify, it's actually U Fleku.  Agree it's a total tourist trap but the beer is excellent and the experience is fun.  If the oompah band comes by taking requests, you can ask them to play "I've Been Working on the Railroad" and then sing The Eyes.  Good times.

^ turn off your stupid tapa signature bozo.

I have fallen off the craft brewery bandwagon a bit. I guess I'm getting old and boring, because now that I have Two Hearted Ale and Jai Alai constantly available, I don't really bother putting much else in my fridge. I keep 6 packs of those on hand at all times, and that's just about all I drink besides what I'm trying to clear out of by cellar. Been on a bourbon kick the last 2 years, and have been collecting those instead of trying new beers. Seems like quite a few people have also moved on to Bourbon, as it's getting tougher to find the good stuff that used to sit on shelves just a few years ago.

Craft beer sales continue to increase, so I'm not sure the evidence supports that.  Overall beer sales declined slightly last year, so perhaps it's all the folks giving up on Bud Light that are starting to buy up your favorite bourbons.

Sounds like you've just settled in on a couple of beers you like, which is fine, but it doesn't seem to be indicative of any national trend.  If anything it's the opposite, the variety and quality of craft beer is increasing just about every day.
