  1. AOTC had a space diner complete with a robot Flo and an alien Mel right out of 70s . I think that's pretty much all that needs to be said about it.  It's by far the worst of the lot, just not even close.

I was originally inclined to give Phantom Menace the nod over TLJ, but given all of the discussion above, I don't think I can.

  2. I ducked into Mac's whilst in Frederiscksburg last weekend and it wasn't terrible.  Their brisket slices were about a quarter-mile wide but had pretty good flavor, probably a little underdone but nothing awful.  The ribs were tender and had pretty good flavor too, though not much smoke.   My kids were whinging and it was actually a godsend because one of them loves pizza, the other loves burgers, neither can agree, except they both love BBQ.  It was good enough to shut them up, so I was thankful.

  3. Phantom Menace also had Jar Jar.  The others had far less Jar Jar.

But I loved the pod race, even with the mildly racist multi-armed stereotypical Italian grand prix driver and the two-headed Saved By The Bell style completely unnecessary sporting announcer.

Forget the kids, do it for yourself!

    YOLO and all that. :)

It’s pretty clear Jon Snow is the protagonist and Dany is the villain now.  How that conflict is reconciled should be good television.  Who doesn’t want to see that?

I don't agree with many of your opinions stated above, but I certainly agree with this.  Despite any critique I have of the writing in recent episodes, I still thoroughly enjoy the show and am looking forward to Sunday's series finale.  It's going to be hard to let this one go, similar to the way I felt about Mad Men.

I think that is all a load of shit. Regardless of what they say publicly I think they were getting tired of the schedule and the massive task they had and just wanted to cross it off so they could move on to different projects.

For sure.  They've stated pretty much this, publicly.  Not outright, but many comments about wanting to spend more time with their families, less time on airplanes and working overseas, etc.  I think they've done a lot of great work on this show over the years, but if they'd handed the show off to writers/runners that actually wanted to put in the time and effort, I think these final two seasons probably would have ended up  better.

NY Times via AP's Jim Vertuno: Within days after being denied the 2018 payout of the $25M subsidy for F1, Epstein Donated Almost $100K to Texas Governor, Lt. Governor, & Lawmakers & is now Seeking Legislation to Force Retroactive Payment of same $25M Subsidy...

    https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2019/05/09/sports/ap-car-f1-us-grand-prix-finances.html

    https://apnews.com/d0e1cf252bd342d7a68c9d2d5ffd1f54

"Circuit of the Americas President Bobby Epstein, who also founded the investment firm Prophet Capital, has pumped about $100,000 in campaign donations to state officials and lawmakers in the six months since the 2018 race, including donations to Gov. Greg Abbott, whose office controls the fund, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who presides over the Senate.

Other donations went to several lawmakers who sit on committees that first considered the bill or live in districts near the racetrack. Epstein did not immediately return messages seeking comment Thursday.

    ...

State law requires applicants to submit an anti-human trafficking plan 30 days before an event as part of an effort to combat spikes in prostitution. U.S. Grand Prix organizers didn't file their plan until 11 days before the 2018 race and were disqualified for reimbursement. Within weeks, Epstein donated $50,000 to Abbott and $25,000 to Patrick, and donated nearly $13,000 to members of the committees considering the bill.

The bill doesn't name the Circuit of the Americas or the U.S. Grand Prix, but it specifically carves out a second chance to apply for events that miss the 30-day deadline for the anti-human trafficking plan if it gets filed seven days prior, and is used during the event. Both of those details apply to the Austin race."

It's not a funny subject at all, but this just reads funny to me.  It looks as if the plan regards the trafficking of anti-humans.

Since I am largely anti-human, I suppose it applies to me... :)

Has any twisted sick fuck said "peeps" yet?

We still have maybe a hundred of these things lying around since Easter.  My kids won't touch them, and they'll eat almost anything with sugar.

Paralleling to real life very few people have an opportunity to commit genocide, so it doesn't happen often, but lots of people have opportunities to commit mass violence on innocent, and that happens all the time.  If you gave those people a dragon, they'd probably use it.  Even if their 10 year younger self wouldn't.

I'd be surprised if their ten-year younger self had ever fought multiple wars to free slaves, or caused a civil war within their own nation to attempt to prevent the raping of innocent women in conquered lands.  So your parallel really isn't much of one.  But it's ok, you and I can have differing opinions.

Why can't we just accept that losing her dragons (basically her kids), and two long term friends, and her advisors betraying her, Jon betraying her, and nobody accepting her as queen, has basically changed her?  That certainly happens in real life.  Who gives a crap about your ideals 10 years ago when your life was great.

Again, that's certainly what the show is attempting to force us to believe.  But the attempt to force us anywhere is the issue.  I'm not sure those events would change a person in that way, so much to the point that they pursue genocide.

But I'm not a zany Targaryen, so who knows?

My opinion is, that I'm not buying it.  It's a problem for me, and I don't accept it.

It still doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the episode and won't enjoy the next one.

I stopped thinking I could predict football games with any special insight after our wet fart of a NO LUBE RAVENGE GAME!!! against Tech in 2009, so nothing will surprise me as long as Clemson wins. There's no reason A&M can't go out and play crazy "nothing to lose" football against a Clemson team that has its eye on bigger things and plays diffidently (like they did in the 2nd half last year) and keep it within 14.

but I think if I could only pick one outcome, I'd go with Clemson 52, A&M 13, something like that. not because I think A&M is going to lose eight games or be mind-wrenchingly terrible but because Clemson seems like it literally gets better every single year and they MIGHT be annoyed hearing as much about A&M as they will leading up to the rematch

I think the ags already had their "go out and play crazy with nothing to lose" football game against Clemson, it happened last year in their own stadium, and it got them a very close loss-win. Put it on the wall! :)

I think this year it's going to be a "revert to the mean" type of game and the reality is that Clemson is simply a much better football team than A&M.  And like you, I don't think A&M is going to be a bad, 4-8 type of team, actually 8-4 sounds about right to me.  But I do expect them to get beaten pretty handily by the three best teams they play, and Clemson is one of those three.

there was never any chance that after coming close against Clemson last year, A&M fans were going to be even remotely realistic about the rematch

keep in mind that if it had been 42-14, a third of A&M's fans would have expected a win the next year anyway because "WE'S DUE!!!!"

you make it 28-26 and that number goes to two-thirds-- doesn't matter who adds what, loses what, where the game's played, etc. it was close last year and Aggies want to win therefore advantage A&M in 2019

    Yup.

My prediction-- Clemson's win will not be close in 2019.

I'm not sure if it's okay to post on both threads, but here goes.

I don't think she's crazy. She's angry. Westeros is a horrible place filled with horrible people as far as she's concerned. She sacrifice greatly to protect Westeros from the army of the dead and gets no love. The 'innocents' in the Red Keep flocked to the woman who betrayed Dany and who cold-bloodedly killed a close friend and adviser.

King's Landing embodies what she despises about Westeros. I'm not sure that she wants to rule this shithole.

    Eh.

I mean, that's certainly one explanation for what she did.  But given her character's previous love and care for the oppressed and innocent in the world, I don't think it's a particularly believable one.

She embraces and even celebrates many of the Dothraki ways, and yet she hated their practice of raping and pillaging conquered lands so much, that she basically created a civil war within her own tribe in an effort to end it.  And also, you know, breaking the chains and all.

Even if this is the intent of the showrunners, I'm not buying it.  It was a weird and hurried rush toward a plot point without anywhere near enough development to get there in a believable way.  Just my opinion of course, and we all gave our own views.

Overall though I still really enjoyed this episode and still enjoy the show.  My quibbles are minor.  I'll be watching again on Sunday, and I'll be sad to see it all end.

I will readily admit, however, that cramming all of the rapid-fire one liners over the seasons into the "previously on" to try to foreshadow and justify Dany's turn was pretty weak sauce.  I mean it's better than her tossing and turning in a dream state while floating heads go by saying all of those one-liners.  But not much better.

  15. I think she's going after Dany.  Whether you liked watching her stumble around the ruins of King's Landing for a half an hour or not, it was pretty obvious that she was touched by the plight of the innocent townspeople and became more enraged with the needless destruction every moment.  And she knows that exactly one person is responsible for all of that needless destruction.

Dany, you just made the list.
