  1. It was pretty much a unicorn in Austin when I was looking last summer.

That's ok, I've grown to really like my new F150, and I kept my old Tahoe for the extra seating capacity and for towing the boat in cases where we're taking both the RV and the boat somewhere.

The Expedition can tow more now than at any time in its history. Every generation update has increased towing capacity.

It's now at 9300 pounds with the towing package.

Finding that towing package in the used vehicle market and then picking it up before someone else does is almost impossible.  Believe me I tried for months before switching my search to pickups.

  3. Die Hard

    A Christmas Story

OG Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

    Charlie Brown Christmas

Love Actually (agree with GhostOfTomJoad, it's somewhat chick flicky but has redeeming qualities-- the Bill Nighy scenes all by themselves elevate the entire movie)

  4. Pretty much all of the manufacturers have turned their SUV platforms into station wagons.  That's the main reason I ended up buying a pickup.  The towing capacity on most SUVs has dropped through the floor.  I would have loved to take a look at a modern Suburban or Expedition with the towing specs I wanted (and they used to have) but finding one now without special-ordering is essentially looking for a unicorn.

sandwich looks delicious but I’d rather have a little bbq sauce on that meat than queso.  not saying I wouldn’t eat it.

Huh, who would have ever thought about doing bbq based flatbreads?!

I keed. Brotherton is my boy and we constantly talk shit about people who come up with some “new” way to use bbq in non-bbq dishes. You know, like tex-mex. Or flatbreads.

Go spend money with him. He’s a great dude, a good friend, and a very good cook.

Or, even, using a "new" word like "flatbread" to describe pizza! ;)

I can safely say I did not pull a Kevin.  Crockpot full of chili delivered and warming at this moment.

I'm definitely interested in how your venison chili goes over, keep us posted. :)

No work pot lucks for me this year.  I guess our planning committee was busy doing something else.

I always like the Dead's version best. The instrumentation is more plaintive and emotional, imo.

Kris Kristofferson wrote it, and I like it best when he plays it himself.  He was never a great singer, but what a fantastic songwriter.

Here's another country/NOLA song from another of my favorite songwriters:

I knew a man, Bojangles and he danced for you
    In worn out shoes
Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants
    The old soft shoe
    He jumped so high
    He jumped so high
    Then he'd lightly touch down

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was
    Down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
    As he spoke right out
    He talked of life
    He talked of life
He laughed, clicked his heels and stepped
He said his name, Bojangles and he danced a lick
    Across the cell
He grabbed his pants, a better stance
    Oh, he jumped so high
    Then he clicked his heels
    He let go a laugh
    He let go a laugh
Pushed back his clothes all around

    Mr. Bojangles
    Mr. Bojangles
    Mr. Bojangles
    Dance

He danced for those in minstrel shows and county fairs
    Throughout the south
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
    Traveled about
    The dog up and died
    He up and died
After twenty years he still grieves
He said I dance now at every chance in honky tonks
    For drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
He said I drinks a bit
    He shook his head
And as he shook his head
I heard someone ask him please

    Please
    Mr. Bojangles
    Mr. Bojangles
    Mr. Bojangles
    Dance

Actually the “how much” question on ED was a well kept secret until that 30for30 came out and he was shooting his mouth off about how he’d never tell. ED is as stupid as CJ

Well it was like the Cam Newton payoff-- with Cam, we knew that the LOSING bid was $180,000.  Similarly, we knew how much ED and CJK5 were passing on, from other schools.

And I certainly agree that ED is as stupid as CJK5H, no disagreement there.

  9. I wear my college ring because I worked my ass off for it.

But I don't act like it's some sacred artifact.  It's personal, solely for me, and I don't care if anyone else ever notices it.  It's also sentimental because my grandfather bought it for me, as he bought one for each of his grandchildren that graduated from college.

They gave Eric Dickerson a gold smokey & the bandit model trans am.

They gave Craig James a yellow Ted Bundy model Volkswagen bug.

A&M gave Dickerson the gold Trans Am.  Which he then drove whilst "playing school" at SMU.

SMU gave them each much, much more than that.

Liked him when he was at SMU...then again, I was 12 and didn’t know shit.  The older I get, the more idiotic his existance appears to be.

I didn't, because we all already knew how much SMU boosters paid him and Eric Dickerson to become amateur football players for their school.  FCJ.

Stiles Switch had deep fried beef rib today with cream gravy. Line wrapped around the place.

I've had that before, it's very tasty.  Glad I didn't try to go this time though.

  13. I like non-crowded non-sold-out shows at Stubbs.  Not sure it's a top ten venue nationwide, but ok sure.  I actually prefer really small venues like Saxon Pub over any of the larger ones.

    Red Rocks is pretty awesome.

    Hollywood Bowl is cool too.

Those are the only three on the list I've visited.

Had dinner with the wife at Mouton's Bistro last night.  I was pleasantly surprised, but you're driving to Leanderpark to eat at one.

It WAS filled with hipster douches (oxymoron in the middle of suburbia I would have thought) playing trivia that kept yelling "Balls" after the host would say "Sports" as a category, because you know...being too cool for sports is a thing now.

Which one did you go to, the "new" one in CP, or the original one in Leander?

I'd heard the one in Leander was really good, so was excited to try the one in CP when it opened.  I was pretty disappointed in it, but it was fairly early on, maybe a month or two after opening...
