  1. Lots of Merle Haggard already mentioned, many of my favorites, but I don't think I've seen this one yet, which I love.  It used to me my dad's theme song.  As I've grown older, I find it becoming my own anthem:

Just got my two! See y'all at the Disch. Out of curiosity...how many of yall are going to every game? I am not sure about sun baking to watch the ags at 4pm....may hit a bar for that game and then head to the disch in the last few innings of it.

Rather than a bar, might I suggest you take a hint from your username...?

    I love this thing.

I can totally see dork, gallute, core moron yelling straight at that wall.

That section probably has some aggy lore monicker absent a definite article like "corner" or "triangle"

    Ha, no doubt!

"I was honored when selected by my commander to be stationed in Corner for the Nichols State game."

  4. Some friends of ours had just bought and renovated a house in Port A, they put the finishing touches on it about two weeks before the hurricane hit.  They sustained some damage but managed to get it complete and reopened for this summer.

The VRBO listing for it is here: https://www.vrbo.com/1232449

They look mostly booked through the summer but have availability in the Fall which is my preferred time to head down there anyway.  Check it out if you are so inclined, they're really great people.

Diamond backs were SO much better than those shitty Mongoose bikes. However, both were way better than Sigmas...

6th grade bike smack talk not going away.

I was poor and took what I was given.  Actually given to me by a friend who raced BMX and won it as a grand prize in one competition or another.  He had a ton of bikes.

My current road bike is a 14-speed Diamondback that I bought in 1991, after my old POS 10-speed got stolen on campus behind Moore Hill.

  6. Ha!

6 AM to 4 PM.  It actually took until a little after 5, got about an hour of resting time before I sliced into it.  I did drop the temp closer to 225 for part of the cook when I added the pork ribs in.  And it was a pretty big brisket at around 16 lbs, which is definitely larger than I prefer. I like 'em around 11 or 12 typically.

  7. Well you make a terrible jock sniffer that's for sure.

    Glad to see Ricciardo win.

    Crappy to see Fred retire.

Also, I don't like that the VSC was allowed to end right when a car was coming off the pit road and split Ricciardo and Vettel.  That pretty much ended Seb's chances at getting a pass, although Ricciardo got a great start and Vettel likely would not have ever had a chance, anyway.

United grocery store had choice packers for $1.77/lb, grabbed 2 of em and got em on smoke now.

Anyone know if the raw ones freeze well and cook out ok? Started to buy several but didn’t know about how they do out of the freezer.

Yup, they freeze well.  I usually grab a couple when they're on sale.

What was the kind of outfitter-themed restaurant that was in the spot on Lake Austin now used by Cain & Abel's next to Hula Hut?  I went on a couple of dates there (was as high end as I could afford) in the mid-90's after moving to Austin?  That and Basil's were my go-to places for dates after college to try and impress a lady.

And I miss Holiday House.   Hell, I'll even add that I miss Tres Amigos simply because Vaqueor's has been such an epic disappointment.

Sounds like you're talking about the original restaurant in that building, called The Lodge at Lakeview.  Which was the evolution of the Lakeview Cafe' which was across the street and honestly, a lot better IMO.

But the Lodge at Lakeview did have $1 Celis night on Thursdays, I believe, so I'll remember it fondly for that.

They were $3.59/lb yesterday. I'm kicking myself for not getting one last week when they were 30 cents/lb cheaper.

I hear ya, but it's only like like $4 difference, right?  I just can't let myself sweat that.  Just think how much you'd be paying for it cooked, at a top place, and enjoy THOSE savings. :)

  11. Brisket's been on the smoker since 6:00, pit's at 300, brisket is holding at 160, about a half-hour into the stall.  Should be good to go at final temp by 4:00 or so, I'll rest it and serve around 6.

Beef short ribs have also been on since about 9:30, they'll be good to go at 5:30 I'd guess.

Pork spare ribs will go on at 1.  Sausage will go on ~5.

Oh and based on comments and recommendations here on the Surl, I'm gonna smoke some Brussels sprouts, too.  I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
