Random thought for the Help forum: how about stickies at the top for contractor recommendations for the major metro areas like the food forums?
Could even put in sponsored lists for each area for long time friends, e.g. ROFL

^^ i bet that goes great with the rachel ray garbage bowl your wife bought
I was thinking the same exact thing last night while I was banging your mom! Amazing! (well, your mom wasn't, it was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway)

I have a dual bin setup out in the yard. What really works great is to get a specialized bucket to take stuff out every couple of days:

Don't we have a thread for music or have we become the poors?

Brisket, I apologize for being late to this thread as I went thru a very similar issue the last two years. Daughter had a 4.0, 33 ACT, speaks a couple of languages, yada yada yada. I was hoping she'd pick UT or another local Texas school (hell, I have the Hazlewood for her to use - 150cr hrs for in-state public schools tuition waived) but she was bound and determined to go to a school nationally/globally recognized in the field she wanted to pursue.
Her career path of choice in this case is UX. UT doesn't have an undergrad program in the specialty but they do have a masters - no problem right? She can go to UT in any undergrad program then get her masters right? Negative, she wanted to first get her undergrad in UX then consider a masters later. /facepalm. After some research (on her part) it came down to UC San Diego (ick), Berkeley (ick), Carnegie Mellon (I thought that was for pilots?), UDub in Seattle (nice), or MSOE (what?). Turns out MSOE has a 100% placement rate for UX undergrads at a significantly higher starting salary, who knew? She applied and was called the next day being told she's accepted with a scholarship offer that accounted for over 2/3's of her tuition (hey, this girl in STEM thing is for real).
Long setup - here's the point: One year later she's in her second semester in winter cold Milwaukee, far away from home and LOVING IT. She's enjoying the whole process of stepping out on her own and being immersed in a different environment than home (Austin/RR her entire life). Yeah it's a pain in the butt because I don't get to see her that often, visits are a logistics coordination effort after all, but I've learned to make scheduled calls with her every single week at a designated time which she REALLY appreciates. It may sound cliche but daughters really do need their dads to stay in contact: when she has rough spots she's cried on the phone a couple of times here and there, but she's growing stronger and more confident and I really feel like I'm a part of that by just being her support back home.
tl;dr: you and your daughter will be fine, I'm going thru it now and it'll be a new stage of life for you both - it is possible to make it a great stage if you roll with it.

Does anyone know for sure if we're a plutocracy or a republic anymore?

Derka, you've done a lot of 'wtf' moments on these forums but you've also brought some gold (Jerry) - this and the 'why I love Mack Brown' come to mind.
This short video really demonstrates the juxtaposition of material gain vs ethics. Mom obviously want to provide quality life, child is dealing with base animal urges and developing through them.
Bra fucking vo.

I've had labs, german shepherds, bulldogs, terriers, retrievers, hell mom even had a poodle back in the day.
Fuck you, I'm old.
Best family guard dog I've ever had? Mastiff, by FAR. In my case it was a Brazilian Mastiff (Fila Brasileiro) - I miss that dog so much. Friends & acquaintances that have also gotten mastiffs say the same. exact. thing.
By the way, I've seen people stupid enough to think they can handle a shepherd or a pinscher but I have never met a person who would even remotely consider taking on a mastiff.

Culture eats strategy for lunch.
Having said that, how do you describe what the culture of a D1 bluebood football team should be?

Some other recommendations in the Sci-Fi vein that don't have as strong a statement/message but are still damn entertaining:
- We are Legion (We are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor

I wished I knew the Starship Troopers wasn't just a movie. I didn't know how political it was, and how they actually used mech suits instead of just a bit of armor.
If their is more books like it, is love to read it.
Popped your cherry eh? Try these:
- The Forever War: Joe Haldeman
- Old Man's War: John Scalzi (it's a short series)

Selfish posting - selling some everyday acoustics over on the Best Buy forum.

In 2009 I had the honor to take a tour of the Vosges region following the line of advance of the 36th ID (Texas NG) during WWII. Our guide was a polyglot member of our unit whose skill at the local languages got a lot of doors opened for us.
We culminated our 3 day tour of battlegrounds, wineries, restaurants and local sights at the Epinal American Cemetery - I know it's not mandatory but damn, if you're an American (liberal or conservative) and are visiting foreign soil you really owe it to yourself to go to one of the monuments run by the American Battle Monuments Commission (they're global).
