  1. What's next?  Ukraine?  Drop a few stray bombs on Greenland and consider it "war-torn" and just go in and take it?  Panama?  Canada?

I tell ya, this guy sees everything through the eyes of what he can put his name on.  Property, buildings, countries.  That's the legacy he's shooting for, he's just placating all his minions by feeding their own little P2025 appetites, but in the end it's all about what he can conquer and give to America's oligarchs.

I guess impeachment isn't really a thing anymore. Proceedings should have already begun just for the pardoning of all the people who tried to overthrow our government and beat up a bunch of cops for three hours. Not to mention giving an insane billionaire free reign to destroy our country the best ways he sees fit.

Al Green of Houston has already filed impeachment proceedings for the Gaza plans.  I know it won't come to fruition, but I expect several other filings, and it won't take but a few non MAGA red people to depose him given the right articles of impeachment.

  3. I talked to a good friend from Ft Bend county who is muslim and pretty much plugged into the muslim community there.  Pre election day, he was talking about how dumb so many muslims were for switching to Trump.  All along I had been thinking they were doing it in a move of solidarity behind Palestine.  So I was surprised when I asked him about it and he said they were generally happy about it.  What they wanted was to see the conflict come to an end, it really didn't matter who won or lost, just get it over and Trump did that.

However he did say that Muslim Ban 2.0 hasn't sunk in much yet, so that's what will get them stirred up.

“I don’t think people should be going back to Gaza,” Mr. Trump said. “I heard that Gaza has been very unlucky for them. They live like hell. They live like they’re living in hell. Gaza is not a place for people to be living, and the only reason they want to go back, and I believe this strongly, is because they have no alternative.”

But I'm going to wade right in and make it a resort like the world has never seen!  I'm lucky that way.  At least 4 casinos!

If this passes, wouldn’t it effectively end IVF in this state?

From the article, pretty much yeah, or at least make it a dicey thing to do legally.

What about IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)?
In vitro fertilization (IVF) could also face devastating restrictions under this bill. The IVF process typically involves fertilizing multiple eggs outside the body to increase the chances of a successful pregnancy. However, not all fertilized embryos are implanted; some are discarded, stored, or donated for research.

Since the bill grants full legal rights to embryos at the moment of fertilization, any unused or discarded embryos could be treated as victims of homicide. Fertility clinics and doctors who follow standard IVF procedures could be charged with criminal offenses for failing to implant every fertilized egg.

Additionally, couples seeking fertility treatments might face intense legal scrutiny over how embryos are handled, effectively reducing access to IVF. Patients could be forced to undergo unwanted procedures, such as implanting all viable embryos, or risk legal action for “destroying” an embryo.

The result is a full-scale assault on reproductive autonomy. By criminalizing widely used birth control methods and essential fertility treatments, HB2197 does not protect life. It undermines the fundamental right of individuals to make private healthcare decisions. Under the guise of “equal protection for the unborn,” Texas Republicans are further entrenching state control over reproductive choices, with devastating consequences for women, families, and healthcare providers across the state.

By redefining life as beginning at fertilization, this bill criminalizes abortion at all stages and threatens access to commonly used contraceptives and fertility treatments like IVF.

Yeah, that's about as dumb as returning to hand counting ballots.  And it's not just the money for extra machines.  With the current climate it's hard enough to find election workers for 20-30 polling places.  Try doing that for triple the poll sites.

Good place for the Texas DOGE to start.  See how they justify their fellow Republicans being so grossly inefficient.

ok, i know it sounds stupid to look for logic or reason in anything he does, but i have an honest question.

he wants to do a bunch of terrible shit, we get it. he did terrible shit during his first term, or at least tried to. but the only thing he seemed to care about was the economy. now to him, the economy is mostly the stock market with a splash of black employment numbers, but whatever. it's all he fucking talks about.

so if you're trump, and you can do most of your terrible shit without it affecting the economy (disabling govt agencies, pursuing your perceived political enemies, tax cuts for billionaire friends in exchange for whatever the fuck), then why would you do something like this that directly impacts (a) the actual economy and (b) how americans react to the economy (lower wages, layoffs, higher prices, gas, groceries).

i mean, the economy/stock market was in good shape. and even if biden did most of the heavy lifting post-covid, trump would've taken credit for it anyway, so why not just keep it humming and brag about it? that's what he did for 3 years after obama. all trump cares about is people thinking he's great and thinking he's smart and the best at everything. if the economy was good, he could've played golf 4x a week and spent the other days truthing about the dow.

so the question, and i'm not looking for answers like "because he's a dipshit moron", why do this?

is it to say we're not dependent on any other nations and he thinks that makes him a hero? is it because he (and those around him) genuinely don't understand how it works? and even if they don't, he's outwardly saying it's going to be bad for a while and people will understand. or is he just going full putin and trying to build a moat and fuck everybody over except him? i know the last one seems like the obvious answer, but he's way more fragile snowflake who seeks approval than he is putin strongman who rules with an iron fist.

    i'll hang up and listen.

    right, which was the assumption.

so do we think he's ok being seen as the worst president of all time and the useful idiot who presided over the ashes, or does he somehow think this is going to be popular with people outside his cult? and yes, i do think he cares about that stuff almost as much as he wants to be a real billionaire.

putin was like 45 years old when he took over. does trump realize this is not going to work out for him the same way?

While cruelty plays a role, I think it's less a player for Trump than say Bannon or Stephen Miller.  I think Trump sees this as a way to begin building his stature in the world as a great leader.  Great leaders end up with more territory than they started with and weak leaders lose territory.  I think Trump sees a future where he rules the western hemisphere, China rules Orient and Putin rules everything in between.  And instead of taking land by force, he is first trying to get enough voters in Canada and Mexico to ask "why do we wallow around with such poorly run governments when we could be part of the once again great US that Trump is building?"  Honestly think the guy is that delusional and those around him encourage it, profiting off the chaos. Above all else he wants the world to think he is the brightest visionary ever.  Everything he does, how he says everything is directed to get him up on Mt Rushmore.

Also the more lumber than we can use is a flat lie.  Well, maybe not if we start clearcutting national forests.

The bulk of our best lumber already goes overseas.  They figure they are paying already for transport, might as well go the extra bit and get clear or select grade and leave us locals with #2 common crap.

  8. These threads always bring up some "what could have been" thoughts for me.  Akins gets shortchanged in these conversations I think because he played through a lot of injury and illness, but also he inherited the wishbone about the time other teams were beginning to figure out ways to combat it defensively.  Made his sledding a bit more difficult.  I was at that game where Pat Thomas of A&M targeted his knee on the first play of the game and took him out.  But when he was healthy, he was knocking out the yards and wins.

That was quite a run for UT qbs starting with Street and running until about James Brown.  How many times did understudies like Randy McEachern step up to save the day when all the qbs in front went down for one reason or another?

That book is one of the most chilling things I've ever read.  It was published in 1996.  Its predictions for the post-2010 period have been fucking absurdly spot-on, and horrifyingly so.  We're in for a lot more super-bad shit.  And, as has become apparent by our chosen path, almost all of it will be self-inflicted.

My MAGA brother and his friends are all convinced that all that Armageddon Mad Max timeline will be only be suffered by the unbelievers.  All the righteous white evangelicals will be swept up by the rapture balloons in the nick of time.

Let's don't think critically and vote for people to improve life on earth for all, let's just burn it all down while we line our pockets (to make the last few days as comfortable as possible) then tell everyone to pray for our nation(fuck the rest of the world).  God will send the rapture like he did the ark.  But to be doubly sure you get passage, bring along your Trump Bible.

Dude, read the post. I didn't say everybody. Or mention you.

But, it sure seems to me that the posts about Trump/MAGA grifts ... far outnumber...  the posts about Trump/MAGA as fascist, violent Christian theocrats, war mongers, etc.

Happy to be proven wrong. Maybe someone can run the stats on the number of posts claiming grifts vs. posts claiming fascism and theocracy.

To Trump these issues you talk about are like holidays.  While he might only talk about Christmas or Easter a little time each year, there is always a Trump grift for the holiday.  So, the grift will always be hot topic, because no matter what he is talking about, there's a grift tied to it.  Either in some sort of kickback like he's getting from O&G for advocating for gas heat or asking for more campaign donations to fight the evil things like trans kids and such.

Interesting thought that if Trump were to try to raise fund with another election campaign fundraising event, could that be shut down because of term limits?  I guess even if that dream could come true, he'd just start funnelling it through something like a Rushmore monument, or Presidential Library, wherein he'd get his normal cut of 90%.

  11. I wish Sark would find a young offensive minded guy to teach his ways to, working that person up to be the play caller.  Sark helps prepare the game plan, and possibly some adjustments in game, but by and large is left to game and time management.  Then if and when Sark moves on, this person could step up.  I know there's a term for it, but not going to use it.

I like the bowl tie ins, the nostalgia is nice. Grew up watching the Jan 1 bowls in awe of the history and tradition of all of them. I want more of that not less, while modernizing into a play off system.

The problem is that bowl atmosphere is quite different from a playoff game that has to be won to advance.  In bowls, there is no real pressure to win or lose, unless it has to do with final rankings.  But all of that goes away with the playoffs, rankings don't mean as much.

The bowls were used to throwing these week-long parties for both teams.   But that is much harder to do when so much is on the line, and coaches don't want distractions.   I at first was a big proponent of rolling in the bowls into the playoffs, but didn't figure this angle.

I'm now behind the highest seeded team be home host.

At this point, I agree.  Put Arch back in the box unless there is an injury or code red situation. Doubt we need him for ASU, and assuming we win, we want fully confident Quinn for the OSU or Oregon matchup.

I think Sark is using Arch to set up other options for Quinn down the road. Everytime he trots Arch out there reinforces in peoples' minds that "Quinn isn't a running threat. If they want to run, then UT will put in Arch."

Like someone said in another thread, tendencies can work for you when you know when to break them.
