  1. No, he never served, but my money is Trump will try to get him buried in Arlington.
  2. This is probably our best chance to win a statewide race. While Talarico isn't very loud, he's got a solid case and he's got his belly full of the billionaires. He's got morals and he's an elementary teacher by trade, so he does know how to speak the language of the under-educated.
  3. My brother said the same thing last year, about how none of the Dems identified themselves as Democrats on their signs or webpages. I figure it's one of their big "gotcha" things. But it seems it's about the same on the Republican side, they tend to use the word conservative more than republican on signs or websites. I guess somehow it's a play for that non-informed voter that keeps saying 'I don't vote for the party, but the candidate.'
  4. I think Trump was looking for an Ivanka doppleganger. Would not surprise me if the russia videos included minors, either. The pee stuff could have been part of it too, but more likely a smoke screen.
  5. Talarico was supposed to make his official announcement Tuesday, but it got leaked early. However his Talarico for Senate website has been sitting with a "coming soon" type banner on it for 2-3 weeks. Allred's a bit more of a mystery. Talarico had the special sessions to get past first. Allred had no such impediments. That's the same game he played against Gutierrez in 24.
  6. There are so many counties in Texas that have been ignored by Dems because they are overshadowed by the big metro 5, Harris, Dallas/Tarrant, Bexar, El Paso and Travis. Amarillo by itself is larger than the largest cities of 10 states. Smith Co with Tyler is over 250,000. Corpus, Laredo, Waco, Lubbock, B/CS, Beaumont are examples of what Texas Dems were considering rural. And that older regime was banking on growing Hispanic demographics in those Big 5 to turn Texas blue. But the problem is that for whatever reason (I think partially apathy and partially voter suppression) those huge population centers are not turning out to vote. For that reason there is a new push towards showing up in those towns/counties of over 250,000. That's about 45 population centers. And while they go into the big metros, not all those people show up, so they need to host events out in the communities, like Plano, Round Rock or Pasadena for instance. Beto was on the right track but like you said about the panhandle, @chainsaw, there is very little organization out in the smaller counties. Hubs like Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa are working with some new life, but yes, there's a real need to look at the marginal returns when you get into the counties of say 20,000 or less. Most of those little counties are so backward and red, that Dems feel threatened if they even put out a yard sign, much less try to knock some doors. TL;DR: Texas Dems are making big efforts to get more presence in population centers that have been overlooked for years. They are hoping the voters in those areas will turn out to vote in numbers that will offset the disappointment in Harris and other counties. The dem nominee needs to find some strong allies who the people of Houston admire to help them get that vote. They have lost a lot of those old line leaders recently, and Judge Hidalgo has had her issues as well. But whoever the Dem nominees are need several champions in each large center. And not all political, but also generally popular like entertainers and athletes. That area and the golden triangle have lost a lot of votes out of the unions that have gone into the MAGA movement. Exactly, they are already doing everything they can to suppress the vote, to make it as hard as possible to vote in the big blue cities. Harder to vote when they are under martial law.
  7. I actually made one of those to sell as a fundraiser for a local Dem group. They didn't allow me to sell swings at it, for fear it might resonate as Dems advocating violence against an individual. This is the world we live in now.
  8. Yeah, the disdain is real. Inexplicably he has a base of donors in Dallas. But that's about it.
  9. I think a good bit of them are naive, and think that the morals of the country are unassailable. And now they are beginning to wake up. Maybe it's not enough, but it's more than we had.
  10. Yep, just like the surge Bernie brought to the party in the 16 race.
  11. I place a lot more hope in Talarico than Allred, for sure. Seeing more and more preachers looking to run for office in order to fight off the prosperity gospeltiers like Osteen, and the Christian Nationalists like Wilkes and Dunn. I have more confidence in them than I do Allred the placator. That man is the poster child of lack of self awareness.
  12. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/05/talarico-texas-senate-campaign-00546945 Talarico is in!
  13. Talarico announced for Senate just this afternoon. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/05/talarico-texas-senate-campaign-00546945
  14. Texas Dems, a failed Zoom. We will reschedule.
  15. Sorry folks, we will have to reschedule...I'll let you know. Thanks safesex for showing up!!
  16. Probably going to be running a few minutes late. Sorry.
  17. We are in a finance committee meeting, and it could run a little long. Sorry folks.
  18. I’m not here to trash Hinojosa, but his leadership lost its edge long ago. Folks in the state party recognized that as early as 2016, yet it took eight years to make a change. That delay wasn’t about lack of desire—it was about how entrenched incumbents and their methods become, particularly when they’re adept at backroom politics. Leaders can be voted out. The tougher task is undoing the culture and unspoken rules they leave behind.
  19. I'll ask Kendall if he is good with that.
  20. Crossposting:
  21. Reminder: Tomorrow night, Wed, 9/3 at 8:30 PM we will hold our AMA of the new Texas Democratic State Chair, Kendall Scudder. Here's a short clip of a speech he made during all the redistricting crap going on. It's a Zoom and you folks can come in anonymous, but I would appreciate you label yourselves using your Surly usernames. Kendall doesn't mind hard questions and enjoys a little debate, but I'll boot those who are there just to troll. We don't have time for that shit. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82116528456?pwd=DMoPaJIBxUC0YhJSSMRJiRtAfBOfPu.1
  22. Yeah, the closest we would get to him falling would be he was pushed by some evil lib. But don't worry, that lib is in ICU from the beatdown our favorite president gave him. Happened one night on patrol with his boys cleaning up the DC streets.
  23. You know that trooper got some ribbing when he got back to the Capitol.
  24. Texas 34 OSU 16 Arch total 286
  25. Or maybe beat some sense into them? Not sure they can lack anymore sense than they do now.
