  1. The Falcons are doubly stupid because they are in the weakest division in the NFL, where 9 wins might get you a home playoff game, and they didn't bother maximizing the impact of players for this year. Trading back from 8 would have been really smart in retrospect, because there wasn't even a single defensive player taken for 15 picks. They could have moved back and picked up some more 2nds and 3rds, and still got their top pick on defense. Move back more and you still get a top 5 defensive player on your board. There's nothing about Penix that makes me think he's worth that pick, or that he's so monumentally better than any QBs coming out in 25/26 that you needed to get him now. They could have done so much more with it, but I'm glad I'm not a Falcons fan.

  2. They still need a Safety, and Justin Simmons is still a free agent.  They really need to get someone like him, because that USC safety shouldn't be starting for a couple years. He's a project like most of the guys in this draft, but it would be nice to get a Probowler for a year or two in the meantime.

They might need to re-sign Steven Nelson too. He should be cheap at this point, and he's a good option to have as a #3 CB.

The answer for why pay Tucker market for 6 wins if you are better off losing is "if you are paying market you can always trade him," and if you are paying market you can always trade him and pay a lot of his salary and get some prospects that you really like- which in a market where you can't trade guys for draft picks is a market inefficiency every rebuilding club should aspire to.  Also- I think with the base of this team we wouldn't be likely to prefer losing to Tucker's 6 wins, but if it went that direction that's the lesson to take from him having that deal- imo.

Is there any indication that Tucker actually wants to be here long-term? The MLB has no rules that provide their current team an advantage in money offered vs free agency. If this ship is sinking, I wouldn't blame him for shopping around. He was born and raised in Tampa, maybe he wants to go there and play at home?

Either way, I agree, extending him is the best plan.  If worse comes to worse, possibly trading him in the future for prospects is better than nothing.

Please make this happen.  The meltdown on this forum would be epic.

Demar DeRozan is a free agent, maybe it's time he comes home...

Ouch, that's awful. Didn't even look like that bad of a collision at the time. Hopefully it doesn't impact the TWolves and he can make it back to the sideline before the next round.

Coach killer is a bit strong still--Frank Vogel's job in the NBA these days is essentially "fall guy"--but 18 years into a college and pro career, and Rick Barnes and Scott Brooks are the only coaches that he liked.

    Rick Barnes to Phoenix???

  7. Minny up 2 with 5 minutes to go, it's been a close game the whole time. Let's see how Scott Foster inserts himself into the remaining time to screw over the Twolves...

Yeah seems like it only works if the white Sox eat a bunch of money.  But Benintendi is only 29 and hit 2 HR on Saturday; he’s probably just broken, unlike Abreu who is fully dead.  I would be fine with the trade especially if the Sox ate $15M+.  Benintendi can be used sparingly as a 4th OF or lefty bench bat and wouldn’t be as glaring as Abreu.  Other thing that could happen is Chicago sending prospects with Benintendi to offset the $ difference.

Yeah, that could be attractive, but 2 years 39m with Abreu vs 4 years ~66m with Beni is rough.  If they ate 20m of Beni's deal at 5m a year to help with cap/tax relief, I could see that helping the deal. A little bit more costly over time for Houston, but you get a guy that's batting close to .200 vs a guy going even lower from ~.070.

I doubt the rebuilding White Sox want to send any prospects with him, honestly their best asset right now is cap space. They should be like the Mets who built up their farm last year by using cap space to facilitate trades for some good prospects. Maybe they could be interested in an up-and-coming Jake Myers, a dynamo prospect in Forest Whitley and a slightly used JP France to include some better players like Luis Robert! :D He has a lot of health issues, but we don't need him to play 150 games every year...

My guess is it’s either a straight salary dump or a swap of bad contracts with Benintendi coming to Houston.

Yuck, Benintendi has 4 years and 66m? left on his deal. No way they would do that without some other decent player coming back to the Astros, or a bunch of money to relieve their cap hits.  Maybe they swing for the fences and try to get Robert in the trade, but I doubt they could make that happen.

Good news: the offense should go nuts in Mexico City.

bad news: we still have to pitch…. And the Rockies are used to playing in thin air…. Although maybe not that thin…. Mexico City sits ~ half a mile higher than Denver.

Let's see if Yordan can nail a 500 footer into the stands, and that be the spark that ignites a fire in this team that burns until they win the World Series in November!
