Got a question for some of you shooters versed in legalese. My neighbor down the road, who I shoot with regularly posed a question, that despite some research(conflicting,  confusing information. I don't feel comfortable answering. He was talking about how bad he was wanting to get a Glock model 19(?). I told him "hell get one, they're cheap enough". So there lies the problem. A little over 20 years ago he was involved in some kind of domestic abuse mess. He said there was no conviction,  but rather it resulted in a deferred adjudication. He said he has been allowed to own guns, buy ammunition etc, but remembers being told he couldn't buy a firearm.  He showed me different articles online, some saying he could, some saying he couldn't and some saying he could after 10 years.  Don't know whether some of this is bad information or whether it varies from state to state.  I told him to consult with a lawyer, but "I ain't spending no money on a lawyer unless I have to".

I told him just to go to try buying one but he's afraid he'd get flagged for trying to do something he's not supposed to.

What say yes Surly? What is the verdict?

In what state was the charge?

    Technically he is fucked federally.

He can own a firearm/ammunition in Texas for protection but he can’t carry.

Federally a deferred adjudication still counts as a conviction and hence the 11.I question applies on a 4473. Which would result in a 922g violation(I think)

I think he can file for a motion for non-disclosure which will seal his adjudication.

Best to get a real attys opinion though.

    This is wrong.

  2. I loved the "we'll agree to a PR bond" on the one hand and yet threatening the death penalty on the other which would implicate a finding of "future danger to society" on the other. Cox needs to have his gold card yanked. But much like bad cops, I'm sure he'll just move to another office.

Me and a group of friends are heading out.. guys trip in November and we have settled on BB. Any recs on places in Terlingua that can sleep 6 or 7 guys? I would ideally like that stretch of cabins on the main road but can't find them on the internet..

If not, I think we're going to get 2 separate places in Terlingua..

Terlingua base camp has lots of casitas

Question for shaggy firearms lawyers and experts:

I accidentally left a handgun in a hotel room in a mid-size city in Texas this morning. Completely my fault and careless of me.  The front desk called me later and said the maid had found it and they had turned it over to the police.

I called the police and they said I could come retrieve it from the property room Monday through Friday. He didn’t seem like it was that big a deal.

Is it a big deal and should I be worried? Should I find a lawyer before I go back? I have a CCL and I know how careless this was. I’ll accept the consequences. Just don’t know how anxious I should be about this and don’t want to be surprised when I get there next week.

    Thanks.

ps - Ms CL is a lawyer and she’s going to give me all kinds of shit about this when she finds out.

Not a big deal unless something happened, like accessible to a child. I assume with a LTC you are not in any way a prohibited person under state or federal law.

Probably figured there were less cameras along that route and lower chance of being spotted overall (rural 2 lane highway versus 4+ lane highway with lots of businesses).  Since he's the type who thinks he's smarter than everyone else, he thought this route would evade detection, not realizing he already drove past a billion cameras in both towns.  He's probably a member of Mensa and brags about it.

Good. What possible use is he alive other than to study? I was hoping he’d plea guilty and give a full confession (some of these wastes of space like BTK love the attention.) but he’ll likely waste everyone’s time and money and drag the victims families through hell. His family through hell. We’ll have to sit and listen to his family cry and carry on about Justice and how they’ve got the wrong fucking waste of space. Sad. Wish he’d offed himself and written a full confession.

All the webslueths types are probably pissed all their theories not leading to BK are invalid and wrong. I know this guy has rights it would just be better for everyone if we just had a firing squad handle it.

It would be better for everyone if we followed the law.

Surely recent events should have convinced you of that by now.

  7. On December 23, 2022 pursuant to that search warrant, I received historical records for the 8458 Phone from AT&T from the time the account was opened in June 2022. After consulting with CAST SA, I was able to determine estimated locations for the 8458 Phone from June2022 to present, the time period authorized by the court. The records for the 8458 Phone show the 8458 Phone utilizing cellular resources that provide coverage to the area of I 122 King Road on at least twelve occasions prior to November 13,2022. All of these occasions, except for one, occurred in the late evening and early moring hours of their respective days.
