Sitting at DFW right now.  Boarded a flight to LAX.  Everyone boarded in time and everything.  Maintenance comes on the plane.  Pilot said they were there to fix the fire alarm going off in the bathrooms.  None of us heard that at all.  Maintenance then grounded the plane and we were all told to get off as they were going to find another plane.

    Fuck AA.

Although I'm questioning whether I should pour in cash to that shit state after post-game LSU shenanigans from their fans, I'm not going to let those morons ruin New Orleans.  Likely going with Mrs for a 2 day trip early November.  Have Atchafalaya Saturday brunch booked as that was our fav last trip and I assume still a tough reservation.    Open to suggestions on other lunch/dinners.  Here are dinners I've done before.  I've typically done the popular Oyster spots for lunch before.

    1. Irene's (old location)
    2. Peche
    3. Revolution
    4. Shaya
    5. Luke
    6. Mr. B's (skipping this after last time)

I've done Peche and Shaya twice so probably skipping those and definitely skippin Mr. B's.  Have never done GW Fins so thinking about that.   Other recs?

Also, we won't be in Friday early enough to get in line for Galaitore's lunch, but has anyone done the 2nd sitting there?  Still a fun vibe (paired with decent food) or should we do something else?

Can anyone recommend 1 winery for us to visit in Sonoma on the day we drive from SF to Yountville?

The shortest routes from SFO to Yountville don't really go thru Sonoma proper, but you could go a little out of your way I guess. Certainly Domaine Carneros is not out of the way and we usually stop by there. NOTE: they sell boxes with styrofoam inserts for cheap there, if you fly Southwest, shipping it as luggage is free, I've never had a bottle break.

But if you are looking for something in Sonoma I would definitely recommend Petroni Vineyards, 990 Cavedale Rd, Sonoma, CA 95476. It's so good that every couple in our usual wine tour group is a member. It's a little north of town but worth the 15 minute drive. You could also drive over the mountain to get to Yountville instead of doubling back and taking 12. If you are looking for a tasting room in town, try Walt Wines on the square at 380 1st St. W, Sonoma, CA 95476. Then walk across the street and eat at The Girl and The Fig.

We are headed up that way in a few weeks, I can't wait to get out of this hot weather.

Also try an open jaw into DUB, out of CDG. Departure taxes from LHR are going to fuck you good. I did exactly that last summer, and what I saved on airfare paid for 3 nights in Paris, plus the ride over with Eurostar, and still saved close a grand on top of it. Don't be afraid to look around at many airports. AMS, BRU, CDG, BCN, etc.

Try Manchester, deals can be had.

No birds to speak of in Guadalupe County near Geronimo.  First time hunting this pasture (big milo field).  Killed one bird between morning and afternoon hunts Sunday.  Our group of eight killed six birds total.  Worst opening day hunt I've ever had by a wide margin.

The dove hunting in the whole area has gone to shit. My lease outside of San Marcos has gone from passing on all MDs and shooting a limit of WWs in 10 minutes while sitting on the tailgate to hardly any birds at all over the last 4 years. Neighbors don't shoot either, it used to be like a war zone out there. The game warden don't even come out any more. I used to have clouds of them in my backyard, now I rarely even see them.

I can't figure out what happened.

Going to a bar in San Marcos to watch it with my son (Tx State Junior) and I am predicting the upset of the year happens tonight. Aggy fans burn down Kyle field and bury dogs all over their golf course, I mean sewer system leach field.

Hey, at least there will be very good eye candy.

I think this is a good plan. Just can't decide if the Square or Zelicks.

There’s no reason to be walking around with a 30 round magazine that doesn’t involve intent to do serious bodily harm or kill someone

I'm a bleeding heart criminal defense attorney and surly gun nut. I'm willing to look the other way at times if that means longhorn nation is back. I was looking forward to Josh's contribution to the team. He clearly has the ability to start.

But I can't get past what is alleged. There is no reason that is acceptable. It shows incredibly bad judgment and is indicative of a character we do not want associated with our athletic program.

He let his teammates down. And the team needs to know there are consequences for bad choices, and that they are enforced.

Some choices you make, you just can't come back from.

He needs to be gone, permanently.

I have tried these cases. The prior incidents will be presented to a grand jury and at trial to show motive, rebut lack of intent,  to rebut the defensive theory and prove provocation to defeat the jury instructions of presumption of reasonableness and/or shall not consider whether he had a duty to retreat. He’ll get a self defense charge but without the benefits of the stand your ground law. Then it will be old school self defense law .... was the deadly force reasonably necessary to protect himself from the use of force, or threatened force, against him. The defense will argue it shouldn’t be viewed in hindsight, this all happened in a matter of seconds, that the event must be viewed from the standpoint of the actor, not after watching the video in slow motion 20 times. However, the jury will be poisoned by his prior bad acts and say no, the force used was unreasonable. Verdict: not less than manslaughter, probably murder.

Convicted of manslaughter, sentencing in October. Could get up to 30 years.

Conviction, prior incidents were admitted, jury sends note they are confused by the law of self defense. Very predictable.

Heading to Amsterdam in late October with the GF/fiancee (no pics) for about three days.  She has a work obligation that will occupy her for a day.  After that, we'll both be free for a couple days before taking the train to Paris.  Lodging is covered -- hotel room through her company.  Not sure which hotel yet, but I assume it will probably be in the Central area.  She has never been to AMS; I visited once a looooong time ago.  Just need recs re: restaurants (esp. Indonesian), coffeeshops (for her), and places to visit.  Red Light district is probably a no go.  Not really into pot.

I'd say at this point that the Rijksmuseum, a canal tour, Dam Square, and the Anne Frank House are probably going to be high on the list of things to see, but I'm sure we'll need to add an item or two to that list.  And I'm open to having my mind changed as to any of those if you think something is a "must see."  With only a couple days in the city, we'll only be able to cram in so much,

I've read the other posts in this thread -- some good ideas and recs.  Just want to see if anyone has anything else to add.

    I was there last month

Canal Tour: Those Dam Boat Guys

    Indonesian:

Bhatti Pasal, Authentic Nepalese Food - awesome, small and not easy to get into so plan accordingly

Ko-Chang - incredible and inexpensive, my kids loved this place so much they got take out another night

    Rijkmuseum: meh

go up in the Westerkerk church tower (next to Anne Frank)

Anne Frank House: definitely go, but buy your tickets 60 days out or you won’t be going

Walk and shop the Jordaan / 9 streets area

And definitely the Brouwerij 't IJ (IJ Brewery) man I could go for an IJ Wit right now

Not a super-substantive article, but confirms some of the lawdog speculation on here.

In addition to Czeisler, Guyger's defense also lists Marc Green as a potential witness. Green, from Toronto, has made frequent appearances in U.S. courts, according to his CV, in issues of human perception, like eyewitness identification, visibility and reaction times. Michael Haag, a shooting scene reconstruction specialist from New Mexico, is also on the defense list.

From day one I've been posting here that these are the issues the defense will bring up and how the case will be won (or lost).

Dr. Marc Green is a preeminent authority on vision, perception and reaction time. I have Dr. Green's book sitting on my conference room table. I've read it from cover to cover.

If I could hire one expert on this case, it would be Dr. Green.

    Here is his website: http://www.visualexpert.com/

Check out some of his articles, they are absolutely fascinating: http://www.visualexpert.com/why.html

I think if many of you read this information, your opinion would be different. Or at least based on science.

I teach criminal law and use this case to teach murder and culpable mental states at the beginning of the semester. And then self defense at the end of the semester. Last semester we re-enacted this shooting in my classroom with a petite blonde female student entering a darkened classroom and shooting (cap gun) a large black male student who jumped out of a chair with an unsuspecting class and then I played Guyger's 911 call in the re-enactment. It was pretty dramatic. Then we discussed how this could happen: vision, perception, attention, expectation, lighting, reaction time, fatigue, etc. It's really fascinating stuff if you take the time to learn it.
