Spurs 2023-24: Let's Put Another Shrimp on the Barbie!

We're in the middle of a tough part of our schedule. Only 3 out of 9 matches are at home, starting with the critical Villa match on March 9th and ending with the Liverpool match on May 5th.

Over that stretch, not only did we play Villa and Newcastle on the road, but we have to go to Liverpool and Chelsea 3 days apart.

Not great. Today was a huge match that needed a result.

Our midfield hasn't been the same since the Chelsea match in early November. Maddison was hurt, Bissouma was suspended, hurt and then on international duty, Sarr was out on international duty, and Betancur continued to recover. We've been unable to capture that early season form.

That's been a big reason we've fallen off this second half of the campaign.

Still really fucking slow on the ball. The continue playing out it the back when there was nothing there was idiotic. You could see it coming.

Yeah, I was making a post about play when the goal occurred. I was going to note that Spurs are fighting to get to loose balls and soft passes. But on the ball is still not great. And while I was going to commend them for dealing with the first set piece, the second (the corner) got them.

They've had some chances (two good Romero headers), but gotta stop being cute.

There's a pretty glaring lack of athleticism on the field for Spurs right now. Without Sarr or Bissouma no one can break the press by dribbling.

To be fair, both Sarr and Bissouma have sucked since ACON.

Madison wasn't fouled. That trip on Kulu ....

No question it was accidental - but it directly impeded play. The give and go was broken up by that contact.

And it's going to be worse now as Arteta clearly has Arsenal bunkering in. Spurs need to break them down in they want anything to happen.

Sure, but Maddison, Kulu, Bentacur, Hojbjerg, and Davies means you aren't chasing anyone down when you're way to the pitch and lose the ball.
