Say what you will about evil corporations, most of them in the US, including big oil, pay a ton in taxes and fees.  They have to.  They are under intense scrutiny and sued almost every day for many valid but just as many invalid reasons.  What is strange is the ability for these silicon valley companies that are taking over our lives in many ways to pay very little in taxes and be subject to so little scrutiny.  The GOP isnt interested in investigating.   In many ways, they arent smart enough or fully understand how these companies make money.  All one has to do is look at the idiotic hearings with Facebook, et al. to see how truly clueless they are.  The Democrats are not interested because the companies are a cash cow for them and they assist their candidates get elected in so many ways.  The EU is the only political "governmental body" that sees them for who they are and is willing to fine them. These companies are in clear violation of anti-trust laws but our government isnt interested in bringing a case against them.  If they were investigated, I imagine they would be in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  Our government is so corrupt

The Atlantic is a stormy moat; and the Mediterranean,
The blue pool in the old garden,
More than five thousand years has drunk sacrifice
Of ships and blood, and shines in the sun; but here the Pacific--
Our ships, planes, wars are perfectly irrelevant.
Neither our present blood-feud with the brave dwarfs
Nor any future world-quarrel of westering
And eastering man, the bloody migrations, greed of power, clash of
faiths--
Is a speck of dust on the great scale-pan.
Here from this mountain shore, headland beyond stormy headland
plunging like dolphins through the blue sea-smoke
Into pale sea--look west at the hill of water: it is half the
planet:
this dome, this half-globe, this bulging
Eyeball of water, arched over to Asia,
Australia and white Antartica: those are the eyelids that never
close;
this is the staring unsleeping
Eye of the earth; and what it watches is not our wars.
