  1. Who is this Broughtman you speak of? Anyways, just loaded my 7 kids (Kaylee, Braden, Jaxxon, Brynlee, Braxton, Cayson, and Steve) into the RV and we're headed to Yellowstone! They sure can be a handful sometimes, but I don't know what I would do without them! Gonna get some great pics for this year's Christmas card! Also if anyone has any road trip advice for traveling with kids, post it in this thread!

  4. Ate at Matt’s El Rancho today for the first time. It's been on the top of my Tex-Mex food bucket list since the early days of shaggy and i finally went today. We stopped in there for lunch on our way to the Horseshoe Lounge . I had the bob Armstrong and No. 1 dinner bob armstrong: 3/5 the guac really added something to the queso. Overall, it was rich and creamy but still had good spice. It has some really good parts to it, but I got tired of it half way through. It was too thick after a while and my chips would break. it was no better than Torchys, and certainly nowhere close to Maudie’s. I would be impressed if i were a yankee, but i was honestly a bit let down. No. 1 Dinner: 2/5 it was a very very greasy enchilada, and the taco was drier than tacos i've had at other joints. would not order again. also, this was a coincidence- but right after I sat down, Matthew Mcconaughey sat down three tables away from us. I had just recently scene Failure to Launch, so it was far out seeing him in person. maybe five minutes before we left the place, I went to take a piss and he was also taking a piss. He said alright alright as we made eye contact at the urinals. He was super cool.

  6. But he can with his base plus voter suppression, vote rigging, and foreign interference - which currently has the active encouragement of the Republicans - and none of which will be remedied prior to the election. The idea that the Democrats are going to get a message out and have voters just show up at the ballot box and vote this guy out of office in an honest and legitimate election strikes me as painfully naive. Republicans have proven beyond any measure of doubt that they are dishonest to the core and should rightfully be considered a complete and utter, collective fraud. They are not going to allow power to be handed over. They already support a racist, hate-filled traitor, a compulsive liar, an admitted felon, a serial sexual predator who is grossly unfit to lead by any objective measure, with near unanimity within their party and among their voters. What makes anyone think Republicans are not going to keep stooping lower and lower beyond the point of complete unlawfulness, while shrugging it off like they do with everything else; that they are going to engage in any legitimate process that would allow them to lose power?

  12. I think it's more that people are throwing poo at you because you've consistently held that there was no valid reason why stone and trump would have possibly be surveiled. And now that the evidence is starting to accumulate that anybody with two neurons to rub together can put together, you're playing dumb and cunty. So we can re-re-re-restate our position which has been consistent this whole way through, but it ultimately won't matter. You'll find somewhere to move the goalposts and ignore the evidence for some quasi-intellectual reason. Be best.

  13. Great ideas. It would awesome if the playing field were level, but it isn't, and jackasses like you love to fool yourselves into thinking it is. Let's face it -- guys like you can fuck up half of that list and still survive just fine, because of the family safety net. This allows you to prosper and lecture others on how to survive. There are all kinds of people with one (or no) parent, and that parent is probably pulling 70 hours a week at 2-3 jobs, and they check every box on your list but never have a fucking grip beyond a fingernail at actually advancing because they spend all of their time and money just trying to keep their loved ones afloat, but by God you told them, you sanctimonious jerk.

  15. It's been on the top of my Italian bucket list since the early days of shaggy and I finally went to Olive Garden today. I had the bottomless salad and breadsticks and chicken parmesan for my entrée. salad: 3/5 The dressing was fantastic, just like from the Old World. The iceberg lettuce was a bit soggy, but the extra pepperoncini made up for it. Oddly, for a place like Olive Garden, there were only two olives in the salad. chicken parm: 5/5 It was so outstanding that I made the joke about feeling like I was in Rome. The chicken was extra tough and chewy, just like my Mamma Mia would make, and the marinara sauce tasted so fresh I could've sworn they took the lid of the jar right before putting it over my plate. Also, this was a coincidence- maybe five minutes before we left the place Vernon Broughton and his family came and sat in the booth behind our table. They had their computer out and it looked like they were editing some sort of video.

  18. I don’t believe there are reluctant Trump voters. Anyone even considering voting for him after the last 3 years isn’t worth it. And I’m so tired of hearing why the shitty decisions of Trump voters is the fault of people who oppose Trump. And being asked to bend and moderate to placate their retrograde viewpoints. And no one expects them to compromise. Just ignore them and wait for them to die of old age or diabetes or heart disease or opioid overdose.

  20. The problem, at least as far as the survival of the Republic goes imo, is that we have undermined the structural balance between the branches of government. The executive has been granted far far far too much power, and congress has abdicated their responsibilities on everything from foreign to economic policy. I would argue as well that we have undermined the balance inherent to federalism as well, centralizing too much power in Washington. If you want to discuss the survival of the Republic, I think that those structural issues need to be part of the discussion. I think the Republic survives the GOP, I am not sure that the Republic survives the consolidation of power at the federal level in the executive branch.

  22. We haven't had a group family vacation since The Incident. We were in Colorado with wife's parents and brother's family. As I've mentioned before, they're all overly polite, except MIL is very passive aggressive and everyone accommodates that. They also have a downright pathological need to eat meals together. ALWAYS. When we're trying to plan activities, no one actually ever expresses a preference, they just say, "We could do this..." and so we waste massive amounts of time talking about what we could do instead of doing things. And when it's time to pick a restaurant, everyone will say, "Oh, any place is fine," even though it's not, because MIL can't eat spicy foods and basically won't eat any meat except chicken. So it's about the third day of the vacation, and I'm already frazzled by two days of this, and I'm starving, so it's time to eat. And the any-place-is-fines start up, and I suggest a place and get "No, Mama is not going to like that place." I suggest another and get, "No, they won't have anything Mama will like." And I lose it. "What happened to ANY PLACE IS FINE?!!??" Told them I was going to find food and they could eat where they wanted to eat. Wife tried to stop me and I told her to piss off, that I was DONE. 10 minutes later, she found me in the bar with a plate of nachos and my third cocktail. She didn't talk to me for the rest of the trip, so win-win.

  25. Oh yes, those morons. I think the best moment those guys ever had was when Rush Limbaugh warned of the passage of Obamacare. He said: "I'll just tell you this, if this passes and it's five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country. I'll go to Costa Rica." Yes, Costa Rica...a country that’s had full-blown universal healthcare since 1973, and even extending eligibility to undocumented immigrants since 1989. This idiot actually believed that the best way to protest a plan, the origins of which resided in the Republican Party, was to move to a country with arguably the greatest emphasis on public care in this entire hemisphere. That’s the right wing in a nutshell: delusional idiots that literally believe in magic.

  26. 2016 Trump: "America is a nightmare, this place sucks, everything is terrible, elect me or you all are going to die." Republicans: "YES! Finally, someone that is willing to speak their mind! We bow before our new lord and savior!" 2019 Democrats: "Maybe we shouldn't put kids in cages..." Republicans: "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN LEAVE!!!"

  28. Damn. I forgot about this thread until it got resurrected by Slorch. My wife's grandfather passed away 10+ years ago. My in-laws inherited his "fish camp". Double-wide trailer on Toledo Bend. They've done a great job fixing it up, built a nice metal barn with a 1-bedroom apartment above, new pier and floating dock, etc, but it's still an East Texas double-wide trailer. In-laws are both retired now, so they spend damn near half their time there. They love it. For the last 5+ years, we've spent the 4th of July there. We'd probably go there more often, but it's a 5-1/2 hr drive and tough to justify for a long weekend. Plus, accommodations are tight, even when it's just our family of five. It's usually a nice getaway and something different for our kids. My oldest loves to fish, so he's in heaven. In-laws love having us up there and usually cook some fantastic meals. I have a BIL as well, and he's typically come up there for a day or so over that timeframe. Only downside is that the place has had somewhat of a black cloud over it. Four years ago, my middle son tripped and cut his head open on the floor vent of the double wide trailer. 9 stitches at the Jasper ER. Two years ago, my oldest son almost lost his pinky finger when the tow rope of the tube my FIL was pulling got wrapped around his finger. Fileted it to the bone. 27 stitches but avoided surgery. It was nasty. So, again, this place is a good / bad place for us. Chalk this year up to a bad experience. I guess we're in a biennial cycle. Within the past three months, BIL has gotten engaged. He's 33. She's 30. She has two kids that are 16 and 13. You do the math. Two different daddies (obviously). They're getting engaged, and my wife volunteered to host the wedding and volunteered me to cater it and officiate it. This was a result of them "not having any money" even though he makes $80K+/yr and she has a decent job as a phlebotomist. That's a little back story for what went down over the 4th. All four of them are coming up the day after us. My family is now cramming in the 3-bedroom double wide with the in-laws, and BIL and his family has the 1-BR apartment. They have the better set-up, but we're fine on our end. I have a special needs son who needs his own room, so my wife and I are in another small bedroom, our daughter is on a pallet at the foot of our bed and my oldest is going to sleep on the couch in the living room. All good. Upon arrival, soon-to-be SIL walks up and first words out of her mouth to me are, "did your brother-in-law tell you that he knocked me up?". Awesome. Let's break out the champagne. Their two shit-head boxers come barreling around the corner and immediately start fucking with my lab who's one of the most laid-back chill dogs ever. They instantly start growling and biting at him and we have to separate them. And they bring their cat. Who the fuck travels with a cat? Shit (kind of) settles down, and they want to do their cake tasting in preparation for the wedding. My wife made six different mini cakes for them to try so they could choose which ones they wanted for the bride & groom cake. This was a logistical feat just to transport them to the lake. BIL takes his first bite, spits it out, and says "this tastes like ass, it has carrots in it". Well, no shit. It's a fucking carrot cake. My wife bites her tongue, but you can see it starting to fester. Later that evening, my son and the 13 YO soon-to-be cousin are out fishing on the dock. We see my son walking back at a brisk pace. He comes walking up with tears welling up in his eyes. He's shirtless, and he turns around. He has a topwater lure with BOTH treble hooks firmly embedded in his back. Dipshit cousin thinks he can out-fish / out-cast my son and is trying to show off and snags the shit out of him even though he was on the opposite side of the dock. I still don't know how it happened. Somehow, my FIL and I were able to get the treble hooks out. It required cutting off barbs and pushing them through the skin. He was brused and bleeding, but we avoided an ER visit. So, that was a small victory. It's been an eventful day, so about 11 PM, my family is ready for bed. My oldest (treble hook victim) wants to go to sleep. We're shutting it down for the night. BIL throws a hissy fit because he can't stay up late and watch TV on the only TV in the joint (living room where my son is sleeping). He storms off to the barndominium cussing like a sailor. He tells me that he, "can't believe I'm raising such a pussy for a son." WHAT?!?!? I follow him up the hill and we exchange words. It didn't come to fisticuffs, but it's the closest I've come to slugging him. Next day, things seem to have calmed down. After lunch, his boys want to go tubing. My son joins. BIL is nowhere to be found. I drag them around the lake for 2+ hours. We have a great time. We come back and I'm ready for a cold beer. I come in and BIL is asleep on the couch in the middle of the living room. I'm trying to be the bigger man and I try to be quiet, but somehow I wake him and he says, "can you make any more noise?" It's fucking on. I go out on the patio and crank up some Willie Nelson. I turn it up to 11 ten feet from where he's sleeping. FUCK. HIM. My wife is helping my MIL to prep for the evening's fish fry. My wife is making dip. Now roused from his slumber, BIL comes to take a bite while she's still prepping it and proceeds to tell her how fucking disgusting it is. My wife (who is an incredible cook) loses her shit. She drags him outside. I miss the start of this b/c I'm pitching washers and enjoying Willie. All I catch is him calling her a "ThunderCunt". While that's an awesome insult, it's not so awesome when it's directed to your wife. I drop my washers and set down my beer, but by the time I get over there, my wife is on him like a spider monkey. She is lambasting this poor, pathetic dipshit with the full fury of 33 years of pent up anger. I just sat back and watched. Soon-to-be SIL comes out and gets caught in the crossfire from my wife. She gets an ear full as well. It was a thing of beauty. BIL and SIL head up the hill to the barndominium. Thank goodness, all of our kids are out on the dock with FIL and missed the shit storm. BIL comes back down, tail between his legs, a few hours later and apologizes profusely. Says he's off his meds, stressed out by the new kid on the way and the wedding and SIL just lost her job. Whatever. Doesn't give you an excuse to act like an asshole. They leave the next morning. The rest of the stay was peaceful and quiet and we caught fish and swam and did all the normal lake things. So, as it stands now, we're still hosting the wedding. Invites have been sent and my wife didn't want it to seem like she was the bitch that caused the shit storm. Also, my MIL is the consummate enabler and basically guilted my wife into keeping it on the calendar. BUT, we're not catering for them. And I'm not officiating. And neither of us want anything to do with him for the foreseeable future other than the wedding. And, I booked them a room at the JW Marriott for the night of the wedding using my points. And that's been cancelled. The end.

  36. It's the greatest reality TV show on the planet. It's what the President wanted. He gets to dictate the news of the day, every day. Something negative comes up? He tosses out a distraction. Once the distraction wears off? He comes up with a new one, or recycles one from a few weeks/months ago. Rinse, repeat. This is governing. This is ratings. To him, they are all the same thing. We (aside from his loyal following) are just subjected to the mindbending horror, incompetence and overall stupidity on display daily. And I do hope it comes to an end in January 2021, but it won't...even if he is voted out. Because his megaphone isn't going to be taken away, and he will just blather on endlessly and stoke the emotions of the flock. He's the ultimate carny. We (er, most of us here) all look around at our friends and family and coworkers and wonder "what the hell is it?' or "what will it take?". The answer to these questions is nothing. Because sadly, this is entertainment to them. Trump took the office of the President and turned it into reality television.

Hilarious to see that nerd Paul finebaum looking asshole CTJ try to walk his insults back and then disappear from the thread. And the jack asses that repped both of them. In fact, what would be wildly entertaining would be to spot CTJ two of his ball garglers and throw them in a cage with Sam after letting Sam read this thread. I would pony up $50 for that PPV.
