  1. Crazy that in the first 54 super bowl the host city's team never made it, now it's happening in two straight. Rumor is ATT Stadium may become the permanent host to make sure it never happens again

  2. There's a lot to unpack there with the two press conferences, but if you watch these things on a regular basis there's a huge rinse and repeat aspect to them. I realize different people constantly want to focus on the offense and what they see as deficiencies, but watch what Beard talks about publicly when discussing his offense. It's never about "people not moving" or "taking better shots" or "I felt like we pounded the ball too much" or "needing to get more talented" or "who or who shouldn't be handling the ball" or "need to improve post entry passes" or "more scoring from the front court" or "need to be better in transition" or anything else that me or other posters want to complain about. I am NOT trying to delegitimize those complaints, nor am I trying to act as some kind of powerless posting tzar that tells people what they can and can't complain about. I'm simply trying to give those of us who actually read threads and follow the program closely on this board an invitation to set their expectations accordingly. What Beard values is being efficient on offense. Which Texas, despite how it looks, is. He values not turning over the ball. Which, sometimes they do well, others, not so much. What is obvious is that this team doesn't handle full court pressure well. So that is going to absolutely have to improve. He'd like his players to be aggressive and force officials to call fouls, but I'm not sure how you do that with this group. At least more than they are right now. It's not really a "drive to the hoop" back court or "go strong to the hoop" front court. It's a bunch of jump shooters and pivot your feet post men. Nor do they focus on offensive rebounding as a team (more about getting back on defense). So not much of a chance for a foul on a second chance opportunity. Also, when talking about front court players he constantly talks about them playing facing the basket. I am absolutely positive this is a huge part of his recruiting pitch for big men, at least skilled ones. He REALLY values his defense. He brought up how good the defense played, noting that as good as it was statistically, the half court defense was even better than that because so many of the Vol points were off of turnovers turned into transition points, which he thought was the real story of the game in terms of it being close. Beard is virtually always positive. He's ridiculously effusive about the fans during every press conference. EVERY press conference. It's pretty much always the first thing he brings up. I've never seen any coach talk about fans as much as Chris Beard does. He's practically going to will a strong basketball fan base into existence. He never lets up. He never deviates from his message. He also has a seemingly Svengali effect on the players where every single one parrots his message about the fans ad infinitum. Compare that to Barnes, who's almost dismissive of them. He doesn't mean anything by it, but Beard is constantly in salesman mode, while Barnes is simply trying to be genuine in his responses. Beard is who we need at Texas (not a shot at Barnes, simply compared to any other coach) because Texas needs a gifted salesman to boost fan and student participation to a higher level. He's extraordinarily passionate about it. Which you have to have. Otherwise the ennui could get to you. This is not a guy who's changing. He's convicted in his message and his approach. So fans either find a way to accommodate him in some way, or they're going to be frustrated with the Chris Beard Era, which would be a shame, because I think it's going to be special. He also tends to do a good job game planning for the other team's best scorer. Not saying it's going to work every time, but consistently I see Texas make the other team's best scorer uncomfortable, and then you see opposing coaches talk about it, including Barnes here. Anyway, this is a great win. I value conference victories at this point over the nonconference (really need to be .500 or above), but this is by far the best resume builder win on UT's season so far. And because it was a special game with Barnes there, it made the victory mean more.

  3. I find it strange that people are making fun of Neil Young for the Spofity thing. He's always been forthright with his political convictions and he's making a political statement. He knew Spotify would side with Rogan. It seems like a lot of people are missing this.

  4. I am a violent opponent of having venues where credible people are challenged by non-credible people. It gives the illusion that a discussion exists where one doesn’t, and actual experts on vaccines shouldn’t spend their time debating whomever is on Rogan spouting bullshit. The biggest problem with Rogan is that he’s talking about fucking medicine and neither he or anyone in the audience has any frame of reference to determine what is credible. It’s like me sitting in on a debate in whatever the latest controversy in particle physics is, or ancient linguists arguing over the correct translation of a Sumerian cuneiform tablet. A key component of critical thinking skills is being able to realize when you can’t meaningfully follow a debate. This is something that genuine experts come to have an understanding of.

  5. Texas is 16-5. Shaka not once in 6 years had this team 16-5 through 21 games.

  6. yeah they did. record numbers of first time voters, and no they weren't young people (who never vote lol). Trump whipped a certain segment of the population into a frenzy and they came out in droves, in both 2016 and 2020. the 'other side' was caught offguard in 2016 but they woke up and also came out in record numbers in 2020. there have been countless interview clips from Trump rallies, even from 1/6, of people talking about how they never voted before but Trump got them out to vote. it might not all be about race, but it sure as hell is about hatred. the language of Trump and his movement is one of hate, that is undeniable bc it's all on record. and here's the thing... y'all might be right and hate will win in the end. what i don't get is how/why some of you can cheer it on, how you can see America falling apart from the inside, the toxic rhetoric, the outright lies and cheating...and think it's okay bc it's 'your team. or in the case of many here, bc your bank account is doing well. ok, you may not be racist, but your character is questionable. i don't get it. never will. and i don't want to get it bc that would mean i have some of that same rot. fuck that.

  9. I'm not sure which thread to post this in. I know a lot of us have a huge admiration of the efficiency of Mike Campbell, and the brilliance of "American Girl" is widely accepted. This is incredible.

  10. They will say “no, absolutely not, that’s a stupid question and will never happen. TDS!” Then, when it happens, every single one of them will say “there’s really no choice, it has to be done to save the country from a communist takeover by the Dumbocrats.” Because they are the most dishonest humans to ever walk the earth.

  11. “I was pulling into the gate this afternoon and brushed up against the post and scratched my car.” Here is what the view from that camera looks like normally when someone drives in: What really happened is she was too lazy to open the gate all the way and thought she could drive around it and squeeze through the gap.

  17. So, I was sitting at a table just watching the world rotate clockwise on it's way to being completely upside down. I was taking a selfie with the new hat. You can get it on the TRUMP website. I'll be checking the list tomorrow and want to your name, Sean Romavicta, at the top of the list. This guy comes up to me. Tough guy with a manly beard. He has tears streaming down his face. "I love you," he says. I get that a lot but you never hear about it. They don't tell you about that. I get treated so unfairly. Anyway, this guy has the tears and the beard. He even sits down at the table. Sits right down, tears dripping on the glass table and rolling downhill into his lap. Now he's crying like a dog and his crotch is soaked. Sad. "I love you. Do you love me?" It's needy and a little pathetic, but I can cure him like that Jesus guy. Jesus is really doing great things, I'm told. That book I was holding up, right side up!, was his. He signed it for me. I look at wet beard. "I love you. You're very special. All people who love me are special. The best." It only makes this guy cry harder. The tears have soaked his pants legs and they're dripping to the pavement and trailing off into into this this this stream meandering, good word "meandering," I think I invented it. The stream is trickling towards the next table. "I love you! I'm your son! Please say you recognize me!" He's right. I think he is my son. I tell him. His tears, that flood, dry right up. He smiles and his wild, manly eyes look less scary. I wave off the secret service. Boy, you want to talk about manly. Very manly those guys. "Of course I recognize you, son. I'm very observant, maybe the most observant president ever." He calms down. "Okay, Eric, I have work to do. Important things like phone calls, many phone calls. Many meetings. Very important. We'll talk later. But please tell Ivanka I miss her. I'm running again so we can be in the same house again." Eric bursts into tears again. Tears of joy. The secret service guys help him out of the chair and briskly, good word briskly, walk him to the door. Have you bought the new hat yet? We're counting on you to keep America great!

  19. It doesn’t matter what Rogan does personally. If he wants the vaccine or not, or whether votes for Bernie, Yang or trump. Cool, whatever. These are all personal decisions. The problem with Rogan is when he allows his guests to say something false or misleading and there is no challenge on it. Rogan has the money to have a more accurate show. Instead he wants to keep the money and maintain a small staff. It’s like when Facebook says they can’t police their site while sitting on billions in cash. You can police the site (or the podcast in rogans situation) but you choose not to. rogan saying that he sometimes votes democrat doesn’t buy him any points for impartiality.
