  4. Always funny to see someone who operates 100% of the time with a mindset of "fuck your feelings, I can say and do anything I want, whenever I please, and I don't give a shit what you think about it", gets a tiny bit of that thrown in their face. "But, this time it was happening to me!!".

  11. Been a while since I have visited this thread. Reading all this shit stresses me out for some reason, but today... I have to post. So, this morning wife has to leave early. She's up early, I hear her leave the house, car doors slamming, then back in the house and a lot of panicked rustling around, then finally "I can't find my car keys, I going to take my car key off your key chain." I'm half asleep but thinking this doesn't sound good, but she's late and I'm not going to argue. Fast forward, around lunch today I get a text from my neighbor "Hey drifter, I saw your mailbox doors was open, but I couldn't close it because the lock is turned, preventing it from closing." Fuck, so I stop to check the mail on the way home and sure enough, the mailbox was open. I get out my mailbox key so I can unlock it and close it and relock it and yep (can you see what's coming here), her keys (all three cars' fobs and house and mailbox keys) are all in the open mailbox, which has our address right there on the inside of the open door. This is the series of events as best as I can reconstruct them: Yesterday, wife comes home from work, stops to check the mail. Gets out of the car with her keys (keyless ingnition, so car keeps running even if you get out with the fob), opens mail door, locks mail door with the door still open, removes keys from mailbox lock, sets keys in the mailbox while she flips through the mail, leaves key in mailbox without trying to shut door, gets back in car, drives home, turns off push button ignition, comes in house (I was already home so front door was unlocked), never checks purse for keys until the next day when the car won't start because her fob was not in her purse. I didn't ask but I would bet my life savings she was talking on the phone during all that.

  12. And on the “disaffected young meathead” front, here’s a good time to do some taxonomy of a specific type of (usually) Russia-friendly protest thug and separatist recruit: the sportsman. In Russia in the 1990s and early 2000s, you would for sure find “sportsmen.” Usually black clad— leather jackets, black pants, black knit caps, black t-shirts. Despite their name, they didn’t appear to be actual athletes, although for sure they had spent some time in a gym. They appeared to serve no function at all besides waiting outside by an idling Mercedes G-Wagen or smoking outside of restaurants that didn’t have menus or interest in serving customers. It was clear these hulking goons with shaved heads or high and tight haircuts were bad news, but a better class of bad news than the gopniki in track pants and newsboy hats that were hanging out in alleys with a purpose (robbery or just assaulting passersby). The sportsmen could fuck you up bad it was clear. They just had no interest in kicking some foreigners ass unless said foreigner was getting mouthy with the go-go dancers or not wanting to pay for his drinks. “Sportsmen” were basically hired goons for various unsavory characters from real gangsters to gangster wannabes. Radio Free Europe has a great article on the OG sportsmen: https://www.rferl.org/amp/blood-sports-rise-of-russia-gangster-athletes/27722386.html But after 2010 they were really a dying breed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other big Russian cities where hipsters opened brewpubs and Putin just made the entire state an organized criminal enterprise. But like teenagers in Middle America aping The Wire, young men in hardscrabble places across eastern Europe and the Balkans (like Donetsk) adopted the “culture”’ of the sportsmen. Their leather jackets were fake, the gangster barons they worked for just grimy provincial scumbags with a stolen Polish BMW, they had never truly been “athletes,” and they’d have been hopelessly lame in Moscow. But the ethos lingered on and that’s where the fledgling DNR and LNR found their protesters and later first recruits.

  13. During my first trip to Quebec, I was standing in front of a grocery store beer cooler, looking at Maudite beer and practicing the local accent: "mo-dzit, mo-dzit, mo-dzit." I was draped in layers of wadded-up clothes like I'd seen the locals do. A dude walks up to the beer case, hears my mumbling, and starts talking me up in French. I know enough French to tell him I'm not from Quebec, I just drove up from the States. He says "I don't blame you for moving there. They treat us better down there than they do up here, don't they?"

  17. Are you saying that "go ahead Sergei, run into the minefield, I'm sure it's safe by now" isn't training? That just absolutely blows my mind that they kept sending vehicles into the same fucking mindfield multiple times. It doesn't blow my mind like it blew their minds, I'm just in fucking awe of that. You can't even make an aggy joke out of it.

  19. My brother’s Crestview neighbor sixty years ago was a “Frozen Chosin” veteran. Unfortunately he was captured by the Norks who were about to kill him, but luckily a Chinese officer put a stop to that and sent him behind the lines to a POW camp. “Red” said that place was a godsend compared to what other POWs endured. The worst treatment in the Chinese camp was the morning wake-up call when the Chinese guards went through the “barracks” rousting the Americans with the buttstocks of their rifles. Red lost some of his teeth that way, along with about fifty pounds during his stay. He was 18 years old at the time. After his repatriation, he met a nurse during his convalescence and married her before moving to Austin. IIRC, Red passed away from a heart attack when he was around 50.

Here is a translation: Russian: "I still can't understand your language, sorry" Reporter: "This is yours...It's yours. It's from Moldova. We lived in Moldova. How old are you?" Russian: "21" Reporter: "21, and did you learn Romanian in school?" Russian: "No, I didn't say from here." Reporter: "Where did you come?" Russian: "I'm from Russia"

  34. Do these idiots not realize that the reason that would be the case on a 8 game conference schedule is that Texas-OU is way more valuable that Tx-A&M? And why the fuck would the SEC or ESPN allow an 8 conference game schedule with the amount of premium content that would get rid of?

  37. I continue to be baffled by their notion of the SEC "putting the horns in their place" and "setting a tone" with how the league is going to show Texas who runs the show. I'm trying to think of examples in adulthood where that kind of behavior among business partners, or coworkers, or even companies and customers is on display. The only things that come to mind are: shitty teachers berating students to open the school year; government employees at the DMV or Passport office; security guards; restaurant/movie theater/strip club managers with employees; Karens with responsibilities at church; and Texags with Liucci's behavior. Then, when I think about that, it all makes sense. I'm guessing a good portion of those posters are relegated to one or more of those roles and all of them are conditioned to being berated on Texags while they happily hand over their money to Billdo.
