I was in Vegas, so I haven't talked to anyone meaningfully. @RGBIII or someone else might have heard miscellany from folks they chat with, but I've just had some text exchanges. Prior to last weekend, the plan for both weekends was to close the core of a well-rounded class heading into the dead period. After last weekend, things were on the right path. Gibson further confirms that. The Kibble situation amounted to "we're taking 5 guys (I think it is 5, if that isn't the number, he was still given the number) in this class and we have more than that who want in, so if you want to be a part of this program, we need to know that now, so we can plan accordingly" and voila, we have the 5th OL in the class. My view on the Saturday morning hype is that a bunch of dominos were falling over. They've fallen over. There will be a steady stream of commitments from here, probably almost all staged for maximum hype and perception. The Mack Brown era of having 15+ announcements within 48 hours of one another is long gone. As someone very involved with marketing in their career, my view is that this is the way. We live in an era in which the player gets put completely on the pedestal and is expected to have their big moment if they're close to being nationally recruited. No one has to like that, but folks should learn to lean into it.41 points

I owe y'all for the off topic pics. By bad, Olga is from xxxxxx, in the sanskrit pants. Ella (RIP), is from Ukraine, in the blue. Master class w/ Doug Swenson. Ella's core is the only core from Ukraine that should be exposed. Ella & J helping me with my stiff ... back. Master class w/ Brian Kest. Going away luncheon. My yoga friends are my best friends. The manager kept bringing me drinks. #1 all time, any where, in all my born days. Peak yoga for me, age 54, 2010. Trail Ridge Road, Mountain National Park, Colorado, elevation 12,000+ ft, above the tree line. I was the only tree standing during a lightning snow storm. Had this part of the Park to myself. This is my Karma. Namaste, and Slava Ukraini!28 points

Regarding the numbers and the takes, it really looks like things are getting interesting and weird. Spoilered due to length of post.26 points

You really should stop regurgitating what you see in the right-wing info-sphere. Cash bail is still very much alive in CA. Next time you're in CA, feel free to swing by any public courthouse and watch judge after judge set cash bail. Prop 47 set the threshold amount at $950 for theft and property related crimes. Anything under $950 is a misdemeanor. You know what is is in Texas? $2500. So if you steal a bunch of shit in CA and it equals $1500, you're looking at a felony. In Texas, just a misdemeanor. You cannot argue that prop 47 encourages theft, without arguing that Texas's laws encourage more theft. And finally, your assertion that CA "refuses to prosecute" theft is another lie. Is it the prosecutors who are supposed to show up to retail stores and enforce the laws, or is there a different agency that is responsible for apprehending suspects and providing police reports/evidence? When police show up and arrest/cite someone, prosecutors file charges. Where does your confidence in your position come from? Don't you think its possible that you're being fed a bunch of bullshit?22 points

If Maguire is using it as a way to build momentum and get people talking about tech, then tip of the hat. But if I were Sark, I would make sure that I left Tech in a smoking crater in Austin to send a message. Like many of the other coaches in this conference, Maguire seems to have an outsized obsession with beating us. I hope we kick him right in the dick on national television.18 points

Herman's wife worth it? Yes. Not even a question. Hot and crazy. I bet she shags like a minx. Kendra Scott? I know many dipshits here mock the notion and claim they wouldn't touch her. Problem with that? I've met enough of you to know that damned near every poster saying that is lucky when they get to touch a woman. All day and twice on Sunday. So ... yes.17 points

Thought this was cool. From his On3 profile: Chris Johnson is a protégée of former Texas star T.J. Ford. The former Longhorns’ guard would pick Johnson up when he was little and take him to whatever gym he needed to go to. Ford made it a priority to help Johnson, who is from the same neighborhood that Ford grew up in Houston. “He’s the ultimate competitor,” Ford said. “He’s capable of doing anything a coach wants on the floor. He’s a high-caliber basketball player. He just knows how to compete. And he lives in the gym. He’s got a lot of things going for him that can make him a hell of a player.” Johnson said he loves scoring, but he also takes pride in being a complete player. “I love playing defense,” Johnson said.12 points

Well, I do enjoy what the "conspiracy theory" crowd (also overlaps heavily with pro-Putin types) has to say. From a comment on a friend's post (he's a weird friend): See, guys...it's all a psy-op....the shooting down of Russian planes by Wagner was all fake video or something, I guess. Wagner is going to shift to Belarus...and invade Ukraine from Belarus. Which will work, because NATO is out of ammunition. And Putin doesn't bluff (so, looking for the explanation of his spring to Kyiv....then withdrawal leaving behind a shitload of dead Russians and busted armor.) We could "negotiate" and stop this (read: give Putin everything he wants, embolden and further empower him, and favor Russia). Gave me a good chuckle this morning.12 points

Stop right there. This is exactly what CR was before the move. Do you not recall the thread which also restarted here? Hillary Clinton will never be President. When I first got to the shag it was mostly conservative in CR. Some of the voices that are hollering about the R party now were ones then. It's only become more liberal because A) they changed their opinion of the GOP or B) don't care to defend themselves or their positions. If it has become more liberal around here it's the same reason suburbs have. The GOP has lost their goddamn minds.11 points

If something needs to get out, there are always chances for it come out one way or another. If Nahlin knows, all of the boards will know. One thing to keep in mind regarding LSU and Oklahoma - if either school gets desperate and Texas is on the verge of running them over - there are two routes in the recruiting media space in which they can try to cut that. Both have been used effectively. 1) Set Ketchum and crew up as stooges. Feed them bad info and have the handlers for recruits that are willing to help play along, coloring things negatively for Texas and pissing the recruit off. The easiest way this has been done is to blow a recruit’s big day by letting Ketchum gobble up the “scoop”. Then paint the Texas staff as in cahoots with Jabba the Ketch. 2) Just pay Chip Brown to write a hit piece replete with quotes from anonymous sources painting Texas coaches as liars and scumbags. We touched on it but you might have been busy. Marucci enables a lot of wherewithal in baseball. A lot. In football and basketball, their resources aren’t considerably different than they were in the bag game. They pool mid 6 figures to get a few guys they have to have from a group of wealthy donors. These are doctors and contractors and such, not business titans. So, they’re nothing special and they’re going to have trouble leveling up.10 points
