All of this is speculative and coming from multiple places, so, as always, take it with a few grains of salt. As of yesterday, priorities for uncommitted players are as follows, in the correct order: -Simmons: Texas will not lose this recruitment due to NIL. -Robinson: Forget the rankings. Florida has forgotten the rankings too. This one is a big deal. -McKinley: Texas does not want to lose this recruitment. The risk on this one is his actual love of football, because the tools are all there. -Baker: Oregon's conference is a problem, but you are still in a fucking NIL fight with Oregon. Ohio State has apparently bowed out. They've exhausted most of what they can promise elsewhere. Did the same for Jackson once OU stepped up. -Wingo: There is a shot someone goes nuts on this one, but short of that, Texas has made the best case. -Mack: Yes, Mack. -Lindsey: Auburn is not fucking around. Neither is Miami. ATM matched the best offer discussion but the player isn't excited about ATM. Texas has to decide how much of a priority signing 5 DT/NT types this cycle. January is not expected to contribute as a freshman. Hills is high upside and a talent and effort maximizer, but his physical gifts aren't on the same level as the uncommitted guys. -Black: If ATM or Bama make a big play here, Texas is fine at CB. If all things are in the same ballpark, Texas is fine getting him to sign on the line which is dotted. That's it in terms of anything big. Feel good about Omeozulu and Gipson. It's going to be a very interesting finish to the summer. I'm interested to see if anything else pops up above the norm, like one of the OLs becoming a priority. Seems unlikely, but not crazy. If Texas lands Lindsey, some priorities got shifted. Texas would not rank Hudson as a priority above a normal recruitment at this point in time, barring whiffing on Wingo and Hudson suddenly getting religion late in the cycle.33 points

People follow jobs and, in many cases, the promise of lower taxes (which it turns out is an empty one in our fair state). Companies move here because of low corporate and no state income taxes (the latter which appeal to business decision makers, who typically sit at the extreme high end of the income spectrum). Texas is appealing to businesses, so employees end up here. But life for the working class hoi polloi would be better elsewhere. Other than job opportunities, Texas fucking sucks on a lot of quality of life metrics.29 points

I rarely get offended by anything. But I feel protective of those in society who are vulnerable. When I hear someone use cruel language that has historically been used to oppress and demean a vulnerable group, I'm not going to get in their face (assuming they're not actually using it towards someone in that group directly), but I sure as hell will think that person is a piece of shit and think much less of their character. I'm far from perfect and I think people can change and improve, so I try not to shame others or even judge them too harshly in my mind. But I think it's fair and healthy to be offended by certain language and behavior if its motive is to be cruel.28 points

You’ve been offended by things said on this board and it’s predecessors for going on 20 years now probably. So offended in fact that you habitually rant on and on about it whether you use the exact word or not. Also, one of the sweetest people I know is my girlfriend’s brother with Downs syndrome. Using his condition as an insult is, well, offensive. And if you can’t see why then the issue is with you.25 points

No no, don't you see, he's not saying Gerry thinks McKinley is lazy, he's saying Gerry thinks McKinley has a low motor. And he's not a "nice kid from a good family," he's a non-crazy guy with a strong support structure with an interest in academics. These are all very different things and it's weird you can't see that.19 points

I think anyone that uses that word as a term of denigration should have to deal with their intellectually impaired daughter coming home from school and asking why someone would call her that on the playground.19 points

All this SEC-related talk... I'm just going to point out my stance here and now... I never gave two farts about having the Big XII logo on our stuff or being associated with the Big XII. I am a Texas fan. I'm not a conference fan. I care about us winning... the rest of the teams can go F themselves. Once we're in the SEC, I'm not being SEC-branded garbage, I'm not going to chant SEC SEC SEC (although possibly ironically after beating another SEC team like aggy). I really don't care. If all the other SEC teams lose, that's fine. So long as Texas wins, I don't care.18 points

Here’s my actual thoughts about this one. Not many people are actually, literally offended and clutching their pearls and most of us flung this one around at some point. But as it’s been explained by people with special needs and their advocates— when you use the word “retarded” as a synonym for something that’s really dumb or broken or not cool or FUBAR, then by extension you’re saying that so are people with intellectual disabilities. And that’s a deeply hurtful way to think or talk about real people, even if you don’t mean it that way. So people telling you “maybe don’t” are not hyperventilating or pearl clinchers. They’re offering you a chance to be just a little bit cooler and kinder yourself by choosing better and more creative insults. You can take it or not. But if you don’t, then you don’t get to argue with the rest of the world about how they look at you. They’re going to think you’re super un-cool and unkind.18 points

Shit using aggy math, if we turned our one possession losses into wins, we would have had records of: 2022 - 12-0 2021 - 10-2 2020 - 10-0 2019 - 11-2 2018 - 13-1 2017 - 12-1 2016 - 10-215 points

You two goofballs. Good grief. To be clear, Gerry would take McKinley every day and twice on Sunday if he had to pick 5 interior DL for this class for any program. But yeah, McKinley is not an animal. Just don't overthink it. Which, given who I am typing at, is probably impossible, but oh well. I am confident that Codaxx is going to feel compelled to further respond and elaborate on his "point" around McKinley. I am hopeful that Sydney will shut the fuck up about it from here forward, but not optimistic that that will occur.14 points

Gibson and his family have gotten nothing. Texas doesn't pay recruits. I can say that as a complete fucking certainty. When players get to campus, they get all kinds of opportunities. The star recruits like Gibson get more opportunities than an OL who will probably work on development for a few years. They all know that. That considered, Gibson isn't going to get close to $800k as a freshman. Again, that is a certainty from my end. As to the Lambo, the Austin Lambo dealership sees a lot of value in leasing their cars to star players at Texas with solid social media followings who also are not idiots when off campus. If Gibson fits that criteria, he'll have the chance to drive a bad ass vehicle if he wants. There are other dealerships with the same outlook. Apparently that dealership thinks the return on their investment with Bijan was through the roof. ATM got desperate for Owens when other 5 star players like Hill fell through. He was money-whipped for optics. That recruitment, once his dad skated from murder charges, was solely about NIL. Nothing wrong with that, but aggies posting about it otherwise are completely clueless. Completely.12 points

The fun twist in the 2020's is the people who think other people are the easily triggered snowflakes who are offended so easily, are they themselves actually the most easily triggered snowflakes who are offended quite easily. Walking victimhood is their lifestyle, but they can't see it because they think they're on a crusade to point out the snowflake culture in our society. Yet another thing the stupid can't see from the inside of the bubble. But the bubble is comforting. As for "retard", I think I've gone on a few rants about it over the years but have not in a long, long time. My take on the word is simple, use if you need to. It doesn't say much for you. To engage a conversation with adults about any topic, and to think in your mind's word database, "This word will impress these people and show them that I am a serious person, a man of letters" is just weird to me. But yes, the word bothers the shit out of my sister to this day (she's 54 now), and so it bothers me because I don't like to see her bothered. She's got enough other bullshit to deal with in life. She often struggles to find the right word to use to convey an idea or request and to watch grown men, "educated" men just toss dumb words around so flippantly is an affront to her efforts. Hundreds of thousands of words in our language, some with such precision and beauty...and people just choose to lowest common denominator because they think it makes them sound bold and refreshing like a 4LOKO. She used to hear the word "retard" a lot, both directed at her and just kinda thrown out in general, "Oh that movie was retarded." All through her childhood and into her 20's. Then it all kinda went away, at least as far as I remember. We just didn't hear it very much, if ever. And then a few years ago, when ugliness and vitriol and hate and pointing out differences in every single person began to make stupid people feel better about their shitty station in life...we started hearing it more and more again. And it makes her cringe, and sometimes cry. Sign of the times I suppose. She doesn't read the site (thank god), so throw it around all you want. I guess it just reminds me of times I heard it when I was with her and saw her mentally break down and it just brings up those shitty memories. But I'm over it now. Ugliness and stupidity are this nation's features now, not our bugs. We had a good run, I'll let y'all run it into the fucking ground and take good people down with you.12 points

Such a pet peeve when people say this, like do you and those who say this even watch TV or standup these days? There's all sorts of jokes about gays, minorities, including use of otherwise "offensive" words, the difference is the context. Fifty years ago there were lots of offensive stereotype jokes being told out of cruelty, now its usually in a form that isn't meant to be mean, just funny. Laughing with you instead of at you. Or in some cases, like Pineapple Express and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, in a way that actually points out why it's offensive and shouldn't be said, and that only really dumb people or assholes would do it in that manner. Even Norm, outside the context of his era, always said stuff like that with a shit eating grin on his face, almost an acknowledgement that this is really mean and stupid, that's why its funny. Chappelle's trans stuff was different because the original version wasn't that funny and felt personal and cruel. It would have quickly subsided if he just moved on, but he instead decided to double then triple down on it, and the last special he did, they weren't even jokes, just a "I have a trans friend" monologue. The context there was off, and even so, he's far from "cancelled," still making a shit ton of money, and is still otherwise hilarious. Watch some John Mulaney, Daniel Tosh, or any of the people from the old Comedy Central Roasts who are still performing today, super offensive, in a funny but not cruel context. Watch South Park, Family Guy, Always Sunny, Silicon Valley, dozens of other shows that use language in a humorous context. That's what's different. I like Jerry Seinfeld, but he's gone on a rant like this too, and it drives me crazy. Sounds like an old Boomer who just doesn't get how and why the context is different, and pretending that all of it is prohibited. Just simply not true.11 points
