  2. 100%- Cal is fucked and they have no one to blame but themselves. Their admin has been actively hostile to football for at least 12-15 years, and they seem to be hostile to capitalism as well. They certainly don't understand it. They rebuilt a stadium directly on a fault line for $450m at the same time they were kneecapping their football program, sending attendance and tv ratings plummeting. They thought they could put a shit product on the field, suck on USC's teat for equal tv revenue till the end of time, and budgeted accordingly. They fought against adding UT and OU, and would never even consider adding other B12 schools and BYU due to coastal elitism and religious bigotry. The idea of programs getting paid what they're worth in a free market was inconceivable in Berkeley. Cal is the epitome of the arrogance, entitlement and elitism that doomed the PAC. I'm glad they're getting left behind. Fuck Cal.

  4. I’m careful of what I post, simply because you would be surprised who lurks on these forums. But DJ Campbell is your starting RG. Hutson started camp with the ones out of respect that he was a returning starter, but it’s pretty known/expected that Campbell will start. That’s what the coaches want and are planning around. LG is where the true battle is. LG Edge CB Those are the real camp battles and CB is starting to appear clearer even though the 3rd and 4th CBs are coverage studs.

  5. Let’s pretend that fight happened in a Texas practice. From the IT Staff: Team Notes: You probably heard other sites reporting there was an altercation at practice. We won’t get into details because they shouldn’t be discussed publicly, but let’s just say a kerfuffle took place. As we’ve been telling you for some time, this team has a different fire to it and so fights are to be expected. It’s football. Punishment will be handled internally. Torre Becton is just a different animal. Ian Boyd will have a brief article on Becton’s approach later this week, but simply put every player has added 20 pounds of muscle and lost 20 pounds of fat. Even the guys from Westlake seem to have turned the corner. Recruiting: Eric put in an 80% confidence pick on [insert California lineman or position player]. Gerry is less confident at 67.23%. As always our sources are guys who know their stuff so question us at your own peril (but of course this is recruiting and things could change but only if school X cheats in which case we aren’t to blame).

  6. On the one hand, the player has like LSU for forever. He likes their scheme better. He loves Baton Rouge. On the other hand, he's got a better offer, in the near and long term. He knows who his fucking coach will be. He likes Austin. He's been recruiting other players to Texas for a while. I've stayed on the notion that he's headed to LSU from the beginning. I see no reason to change that now. On other matters, just thinking about Terrell Mack - Florida is heading for a second straight losing season. Napier will get a third year, but that's a risk beyond the third season. LSU hasn't prioritized him and Wilson just dropping a bag at the last minute isn't going to have the same impact as it did in the 2000's. McKinley is leaving Louisiana as of today. Academics are a legitimate factor for the mother. Is that important enough for her to steer the player? Or is their relationship just that she's going to voice her thoughts, but it is her son's decision? The guy likes Davis and Bates both, so the tipping point will be something else. Black isn't going into the season uncommitted. Does Simmons going to Baton Rouge steer him as well? I think likely not. I think this one goes our way. Wingo will not be committing any time soon. Lindsey has been given plenty of reasons to go to Auburn. Freeze is selling, literally telling guys, that they're going to have a bad season because they don't have their kind of talent and promising a lot of early playing time. He did this at Ole Miss as well, along with the same bonkers bag game. So why hasn't Lindsey wrapped this up? Why does Texas still think it has a shot? Oregon to the Big 10 is a momentum swing for Baker, just not clear to what level. I think this class is a disappointment without Simmons, simply because he's an immediate difference maker at a key position. That said, land 4 of the other 7 guys, which I think they will, plus a few other evaluation fills or surprises, and it's still going to be a damned good class. Hudson talk pops up every now and then. Seems like for zero reasons other than $9.95ers ginning things up during lulls.

  7. Few nuggets from Dunlap on today's practice - RB Jonathan Brooks was back at practice Monday, he had missed practice over the weekend with an illness, but he is fine and back at practice now. - The biggest news was that DJ Campbell was the starting right guard on Monday. Cole Hutson was working with the twos. A big development in the fifth practice around one of the most anticipated position battles coming into fall camp. - I asked one person if Isaiah Neyor was still working behind Johntay Cook and was told "(Neyor) actually ran some with the ones today." I didn't press about how exactly that worked and who was displaced in this arrangement, but it's clearly something to monitor. For anyone who was worried that he was looking like he was demoted to the third team at the end of last week, apparently there are ways he's getting involved with the first group, so those worries are at least a bit unfounded for now. - I asked who was looking good among the edge rushers and was told it looks like J'Mond Tapp as the primary guy for now behind Ethan Burke. This person also said something that we'd kind of pointed out in practice reports, that some of the inside LBs were getting utilized more in a spot where they spin down to the line of scrimmage to rush, or where they will stunt. Jaylan Ford was actually mentioned as a guy to watch in this regard more so than we saw from him last year.

  8. I get the feeling (probably just wishful thinking) that Simmons has silently committed to both schools and will announce to Texas and end his statement with something along the lines of “when you lie to me, I don’t feel bad about lying to you. #BKEffect” At least that’s what I’m telling myself until the announcement.

  13. I think a bigger threat in the election ahead is all the young people who seem far more attracted to third-party candidates. And it was the Ralph Nader dip-shits that gave us eight years of Bush. My late 20s son and his buddies just can’t stand Biden. So I tell him, “fine don’t vote for Biden and enjoy the upcoming hell-scape for the rest your life. That’s on you, not the Boomers. For all the old Boomer Trump-fuckery, your demographic had the power to change it and threw it away…..and bad choices by old people will only last a decade or so, but your bad choice will impact you and your friends 50 years”

  14. I've heard and read enough commentary from talking heads and writers to feel like the various talking points are being cemented to paint Cal and Stanford as victims who need to be accounted for by somebody, somewhere. 1) But where will all of the olympic sports athletes go??!! This is an existential threat to American olympic primacy! 2) Stanford shouldn't be left out of the Big 10, because they fit the academics standards and are a big brand. Okay. 3) If Cal doesn't get a good landing spot, the board of regents will just siphon off from UCLA's revenue bucket to make Cal whole. 4) What's happened to these poor, innocent schools is a tragedy and people, whoever they are, need to be held accountable, dammit! No one mentions Cal's general indifference, if not outright disdain, for football and other schools that care about it. No mention of Stanford's intractability regarding entrance reqs and transfer restrictions making them a relic in today's landscape. No mention of either school's generally low viewership numbers and mediocre attendance numbers, or their historical mediocrity. No mention of either school's culpability in limiting the future of the PacX at every possible juncture.
