  3. The Baylor offense only works when the stretch running game is getting yards. They want to jog to one side or the other, widen the gaps, and let the RB pick one to run through. Obviously, this works better when your RB is a basher. He needs to usually slam through a tackle for 3-4 ugly yards. Baylor does not have that guy. Their current RBs are indecisive and unable to force the issue if it isn't there. T'Vondre Sweat can make everyone's job simpler by blowing up the middle of the field. Without that to play off of, the Baylor running game dies under gap integrity (Anthony Hill, this isn't the game to overplay your role). The Baylor QB cannot create in the passing game. They rely on the running game forcing defenders to overcommit. They're looking for downfield passes to receivers standing WIDE open by themselves, since the defender committed to the run. If the run game leaves them in 3rd and 7, they'll pray that a dragging TE gets ignored. Other than that, it's a scramble and throwaway. If the Texas offense ever wanted to run between the tackles, this is the game. Blast their lightweight NT out of the A gap and have at it. It won't be glamorous for the first drive, but Baylor will either need to commit additional defenders quickly or face an easy but inescapable death. Once those defenders commit, just use your toys to score how you will. Texas' only real opponent in this game is Texas. Baylor cannot compete directly. This game will be functionally over as soon as Texas executes its fundamentals. If that happens from the start, Baylor will fold in the middle of 2nd quarter and may realistically end the Aranda era. They're a fragile, apathetic bunch right now who are mentally checked out. They'll give it their best in the beginning out of pride. If there's success (because Texas allowed it), the game could be on. Otherwise, they'll have emptied the bag and surrendered.

  4. Baylor trying to charge 175 + fees for upper level seats is an amusing money grab. Going this weekend and will buy third party. Would rather give my money to an institution with good morals like a ticket broking conglomerate.

  6. November 5, 1988, a Saturday. My 12 yr old son and I were back in the timber of our property cutting firewood. My wife has gone to town to pick up our 10 yr old daughter from her mother's house (my MIL). An hour later, my cousin roars through our pasture honking his horn trying to find us. We run out and wave him to us. He lets me know that my wife has been in an accident and it isn't good. I ask a lot of questions but he doesn't have any answers. I don't know if she had already picked up the daughter or not. My son and I jump in my cousins truck and head to my wife's sister's house so I can drop off my son. We get there and she and I take her car and head to town, 15 miles away. On the way, we pass the scene of the accident. My wife's 85 Dodge Charger is in the ditch with a 3/4 ton flatbed farm truck sitting on top of it. The roof of the car is completely collapsed. I see no way that she could survive. We get to our small town hospital just as LifeWatch is leaving the helipad. I run into the Emergency room and our doctor meets me just inside. My wife was a nurse and has worked closely with him for several years. He turns me around and he and I get in his car and head for Wichita. On the way he tells me that she was alone in the car, she is unconscious but has no broken bones or visible trauma. At least my daughter is safe. We get to the hospital and the first person that we encounter is a neurosurgeon who tells me that she is in a coma and might need immediate surgery to relieve brain swelling and I have to sign a mountain of paperwork. This begins a 3 week stay in ICU. They never have to do the surgery but she doesn't come out of the coma until almost Thanksgiving. Once she is conscious again, they are able to assess the level of TBI and set the wheels in motion for the rehab that will follow. She will spend the next 8 weeks in the rehab wing of the hospital learning to speak, walk, and feed herself. I wasn't given any set values for the functions that she would regain so I wasn't sure what our future was going to look like. I was fortunate that our kids were old enough to be able to take care of themselves and be very helpful. My folks lived in Wichita at the time so we set home away from home there. Amazingly, she was able to recover to a remarkable degree and last May we celebrated our Golden anniversary.

  8. JMHO, but the current game day “experience” is way too artificial and electronic hyped with little human participation. Seems to be reflecting the culture of “nose in the cellphone all day” generations, and has nothing of the genuine college football game day atmosphere. Bellmont has succumbed to the artificial light show spectacular, ear-deafening & sensory overloaded scene controlled by the money-grubbing media hacks. Might as well skip having a football game on the fake grass field and just hand out VR headsets to everyone at the gates and pump them full of the AI-generated visuals and ear-splitting noises & advertisements nonstop for four hours. That’s sad. End of cloud yelling.

  14. I can honestly say I hate Rapylor more than any other football team. I hate their lame ass color scheme, I hate their city and their corrupt PD, I hate their faux christian bullshit, I hate their fair weather fans, I hate rape and rape enablers, I hate fArt Briles, I hate Ken Starr, I hate I hate hate hate Mudhole those fucks, break them, hang 50 on them in the first half, then let the scrubs curb stomp them in the second half and hang another 50 on them. I want the entire world to wake up Sunday morning and read about the historic ass beating that happened in that shithole city on Saturday, Sept 23. The beat down should be so bad and infamous that goat herders in Tunisia and fishermen in Micronesia talk about it for generations to come. The Taliban, Russian war criminals, and professional torturers should be appalled at the lack of mercy we will show those raping fucks. After we get the hell out, God should open a sink hole and swallow the entire city just to save them from living in the shame of that game.

  19. I wouldn't panic, most all of this is still a remote possibility. That having been said, there are worrying similarities to the conditions that caused WWI. We all know that at least part of the cause were the treaties that caused significant and quick escalation (it's obviously more complex than that). For example, right now if the Iranians were to intervene against Azerbaijan, it's a potential powder keg. If the Israeli's decide to get involved, and wind up getting attacked, presumably we are in it with them against Iran. At this point, does an opportunistic China make a move at Taiwan? Under this scenario, the US would be tied up with Iran and China and the same time; thus leaving the door open for others to attempt to settle old scores, etc. What we need is for the temperature to be dialed down, and the best way I can think to do it is to have the Ukrainians win, and the sooner the better. If suddenly the Russian military, even regrouping and licking it wounds were withdrawn from Ukraine, it would likely be enough of a deterrent to prevent Azerbaijan from attacking, much less potentially engaging in an all out war. Generally speaking, when people see attacking as the worst option, typically more peaceful means are far more attractive. Given that war is generally a losing proposition for everyone, and mostly outright lunacy, even crappy peace agreements are a better option. Hopefully over time, crappy peace agreements get massaged and become more equitable for all. Truth be told, there is value to be had with two sides constantly working together and compromising on constantly improving treaties. Just to be clear, I'm not saying Azerbaijan isn't rightfully aggrieved, to completely honest, this conflict is one I only have limited knowledge on. What I am saying, is that there are better ways to solve our collective problems. The chaos unleashed by the Russians and their invasion of Ukraine has upped the global temperature dramatically, and in my opinion, one of the best ways for the temperature to go down is for them to be defeated.

  20. When I was doing a study abroad in Peru I was on a bus that got hijacked by a terrorist organization and was held captive for like 12 hours high up in the Andes on a dirt road bracketed by high cliffs. I was beaten and had a gun put in my mouth, and others to my head, while they debated whether or not to kill me because they found my US passport. After what seemed like forever, the leader decided to spare me because he was afraid killing an American would bring a world of hurt down on them (little did they know we were only a couple of months from 9/11, so they probably would have been fine. After I was allowed to live I got to watch as they executed others. I learned later they were killing Peruvian government employees. Anyway, that was the most stressful/emotional day of my life.

  21. May 1992. My then wife was expecting our son to be born in late May. This also coincided with the third birthday of our daughter. So to avoid having a potential conflict on their respective birthdays we elected to have our daughter's birthday party earlier in the month. My ex-wife went into labor a couple of days before the birthday party. No big deal, or so we thought. I am in the delivery room with her. She is having a c-section. Once our son was birthed I was sitting next to the ex comforting her as they took our son to get him cleaned up. As I am sitting there next to her while the doctor is sewing her up the nurse comes over and matter-of-factorily says, "Your son has a breathing problem and it is not good". And then walks away. The doctor quickly looked at her with a "WTF" look on his face. I just sat there for a moment in a bit of a daze. They immediately put our son on oxygen since his numbers were so low. I remember asking the doctor, "Is my son going to die"? Fortunately my ex was out of it due to the surgery so she was not fully aware of what all was going on. The nurse did come by later to apologize for the way that she delivered the news. My son was on oxygen the remainder of that day and overnight. His levels began to get into the normal range the following day. So as the day progressed the ex and I felt confident enough in our sons recovery that I should go home to be with our daughter so that I could be there with her for her birthday party. So Friday night I go home for the Saturday party. As I am taking a shower Saturday morning I get a call on the phone but I miss it. As I am getting out of the shower I hear a neighbor banging on our front door. He tells me that my son has taken a turn for the worse overnight and that they are transporting him to a different hospital. I drop everything and head back to the hospital. To compound the situation the doctor on-call had gone into my ex's room to tell her that our son's condition was declining and that they were moving him. He just then left her there all alone and freaking out and for her to not be able to immediately get me on the phone just made it worse. I get to the hospital in time to watch them load our son into an ambulance. They discharge my ex to allow her to go to the new hospital with him. So she and I follow the ambulance to the different hospital about an hour away. We rode in silence fearing for the worse. It was horrible knowing that we had no control and that all we could do was to pray and put trust into the medical staff. Once at the new hospital by mid-morning, the staff went to work putting all types of sensors on him including applying oxygen once again. This on a Saturday now. By late Sunday he was breating on his own and all of his measurables were fine. Come Monday morning they declared that all is well but would keep him there for a couple of more days just to be certain. He did just fine the rest of the way. To be cautious the hospital sent us home with a device that would monitor his breating and pulse. It was basically a strap with embedded sensors that would wrap around his torso. The problem with the device is that sometimes it would work loose and would cause a false alarm. There is nothing like being in full sleep and hearing that alarm go off at night and bolting into his room to check on him. I believe that the machine caused more harm than good because of the stress that it would put us through when it would go off. Fast forward to about a year when we decide to no longer put him on the montor partly because not once in the previous time had we received any real alarms but also because of the damage to the machine incurred when my wife burned some baby bottle nipples on the stove (this story is shared in a different thread on Surley). Our son has turned out just fine; smart (college grad) and physically fit (played football and ran track where he was the anchor leg on all of the relays). I am trying to get him to do the American Ninja Warrior type stuff because he would excel with it. Our daughter does not really remember us missing her third birthday party that we left in the hands of good neighbors. She has turned out great too!
