  1. Wingo committed last weekend. Black committed in July or August, can't remember. Texas will keep recruiting both like nothing can be taken for granted, but there is a lot of focus on getting guys committed to other schools and just letting some things play out. We've talked about Texas circling back on various DBs as the season moves forward. At this point, I think Myles Davis and Wardell Mack are going to get more attention than Gipson for various reasons. If ATM or Florida collapses in ways that either program could, that would be the guy I'd pick as the favorite.

  3. Are you implying that you don't recall our $2,500 bet in which I said Jimbo would be caught standing on the field during a live play with the ball carrier passing between him and the sideline? You said he would not.

  4. Look, if there is an Iowa thread, I didn't find it. Anyway, this thread is to celebrate the futility of Brian Ferentz and mostly a vehicle to highlight the funniest use of AI I have seen yet. Holy shit. Kirk Ferentz fell under considerable criticism for nepotistically promoting his son to OC. He did so unapologetically. Iowa fans have suffered for 6 seasons helplessly, as the longest tenured coach in CFB watched his son do everything he could to burn the Iowa program to the ground. Anyway, after last season, with the heat being too much for Kirk to weather without changes, they updated Brian's contract to require his offense in 2023 to average 25 points a game. They've called it the "Drive for 325" due to needing 25 points in 13 games. Through the first 2 games this year, while Iowa stood at 2-0, they were 6 total points off the 50 points necessary to stay on pace for "The Drive". Then they played Western Michigan and scored 41. After that game, Brian Ferentz appeared to have gone a bit nuts at a press conference. Media picked up this tweet and ran with it: Alas, it was a well done deep fake. And hilarious. Next up? Penn State. This entitled piece of shit, who makes $850,000/year and runs his mouth constantly, helped Iowa do the following: -Iowa was shutout for the first time since 2000 -76 yards of total offense -1/9 on third downs -4 first downs total This was a Shawn Watson versus Arkansas level of embarrassing performance. The guy never should have been hired. He should have then been fired years ago. He really should have been fired and forced to fly commercial while still in Happy Valley on Saturday night. Anyway, deepfake strikes again with one of the most hilarious sports-related trolls I've ever seen. I'll be damned if it doesn't seem real. Anyway, enjoy: Also, the same deepfake guy did this one for Matt Campbell last week, which is also excellent. And this:

  8. That imbecile created a rube goldberg of recruiting scenarios to get to the spot of “Texas had to pay big for their second choice. “ He has Texas largely ignoring a guy in Cali that was apparently headed to Georgia, even though the dude ruled out UGA months ago and Texas has been recruiting him hard for 2 years. Then, he has Texas sending henchmen in the media into the On3 rankings mechanism to boost Weston Davis to a 5 star so Texas could get the pub. Then Texas moneywhips Davis into announcing a visit. Virtuous aggie coaches then show up and Davis sees the light, warding off the evil Texas energy. Texas, suffering a defeat to the righteous, slinks off and then digs up a small fortune that it had squirreled away for Weston Davis, and forces the carpetbagging lesser recruit to capitulate to the all mighty dollar and suddenly rush to announce his commitment to Texas. Texas needed that to save face from the the very public loss of another guy who has been committed elsewhere for months. It all makes a ton of sense. To someone. Somewhere.

  9. We have been using the RB talk thread and it's time we started a dedicated thread for Jonathon in the football board. This was leading into the season. Let's get some highlights and appreciation going up in here.

  11. It's time to admit that we are all in an abusive relationship with the 2023 Houston Astros. Sure they've spent the last two weeks on a bender beating the shit out of us every night, but they brought home flowers last night, so they've clearly changed. Plus, how would we get by without them?

  12. Step aside, Storm Shadow: Ukraine is getting an even more powerful missile The American MGM-140 ATACMS missile is blazingly fast and easily launched Fabian Hoffmann 26 September 2023 • 7:00am After more than a year of pleading with the Biden Administration, it seems that Zelensky has got his wish. The United States looks set to finally send MGM-140 ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. The American missile would be the third long-range strike weapon Ukraine will receive from the West, following deliveries of Storm Shadow cruise missiles from Britain and France earlier this year. While the British Storm Shadow has proved highly effective, the ATACMS – or “Army Tactical Missile System” – is on another level. Equipped with a 500-pound warhead, it is blazingly fast; while the Storm Shadow and Scalp-EG take 15 minutes to cover a distance of 190 miles, an ATACMS missile will cover the same ground in just five minutes. Better still, it’s ground launched. While the Storm Shadow requires fighter jets for delivery, the ATACMS utilises the M-142 Himars rocket artillery launcher, which is already in service in Ukraine. This combination of high speed and easy delivery means that ATACMS is better able to engage time-sensitive targets, including mobile missile launchers and high-ranking military officials on frontline visits. The only snag is how far Washington is willing to go. It isn’t clear how many systems the US is prepared to hand over, and according to reports Biden has indicated that only “a small number” will be provided to start with. It’s also unclear what variant Ukraine will receive. The United States still has a significant reserve of ATACMS missiles, but the vast majority of them have expired and are currently considered unserviceable. The only operational type is the M57, which – loaded with over 200 pounds of high explosives – would be perfectly capable of defeating most Russian targets in Ukraine. However if Washington is unwilling to hand these over, it could refurbish its expired M48 or M39 missiles. Many experts think this is more likely, considering the Biden Administration’s consistent emphasis on the operational importance of ATACMS in U.S. military planning, but the refurbishment could delay battlefield deployment. When they are available, however, these missiles are likely to prove effective. The M48 is largely similar to the M57, although a little less accurate, but the M39 offers a very different payload. Its 500-pound cluster munition warhead disperses 300 bomblets over a wide area. When these bomblets explode, they create a dense cloud of deadly fragments that pose a threat to both personnel and equipment. This could be particularly useful when striking airfields and air defence sites in Crimea, and if the long range version of the M39 is handed over, all of Crimea would be in range. Regardless of the specific variant Ukraine receives, ATACMS will give Kyiv a significant boost. Long-range strike weapons are critical in modern warfare, and British Storm Shadow cruise missiles have already devastated Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Headquarter in Sevastopol. But supplies are limited, and adding to the stockpile is essential as Kyiv attempts to keep up the tempo. It will also encourage other countries to follow suit. Berlin is currently prevaricating over the potential delivery of KEPD 350 Taurus cruise missiles, with Chancellor Scholz concerned it risks potential escalation. The delivery of ATACMS should help set his mind at rest. And while it won’t win the war alone, it will play a crucial role in undermining Russia’s forces. 13. And on this very board we have posters saying that Deion represents black culture(whatever the fuck that means) better than a guy like Charlie Strong. Because he wears the shades, chains and talks slick. Meanwhile the most gangsta shit Deion ever did was get arrested for fishing. Basically the jackass sword cuts both ways. People need to just chill the fuck out and enjoy the circus.

  14. Gerry has mentioned this a few times - but props to the Richland coaching staff for playing Cruz at C. Generally a 4 star OL prospect like Cruz would be playing Tackle for his high school team but the Richland staff knows Cruz's future is at C so they're playing him there this year so he can get that experience before heading off to Texas

  16. I've had 2 graduate from UT and 2 from Arky in last 8 yrs. Loved the arkansas experience. Good business school (Sam Walton). Supply chain management is their signature business degree. Greek life was solid for them without the exorbitant costs of UT. Given lower housing and overall cost of living in fayetteville, was less expensive there than UT. Fantastic place to visit as parents. Both graduated on time, and got good jobs back here in Austin. winner, winner
