One of her "spokespeople" on NPR said she had a "deeply personal reason" for not retiring. He then explained that this "deeply personal reason" was that she didn't know what else to do with herself. Sounds deeply selfish to me.25 points

From Bobby (IT) Press release: AUSTIN, TX (Sept. 28, 2023) – Jive Turkey, a new homestyle food truck concept from first-year Texas Longhorn Deandre Moore, has opened to the public at 1637 E. Riverside Drive in Central Austin. Austin-based organization Clark Field Creative is assisting Deandre through the process, helping to facilitate the use of Moore’s NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) money to fund the business. Taleea Moore, Deandre’s mother, is the key culinary player at Jive Turkey, where she serves as the chef. Jive Turkey has largely been inspired by the Moore family’s cooking traditions, as well as their fondness for replacing ground beef with turkey meat in their diets. Deandre’s appreciation for incorporating leaner, healthier sources of protein into a majority of his meals began in high school during his journey toward training to be a college athlete. This mindset – coupled with his love of Taleea’s home-cooked meals – led to the menu creation at Jive Turkey, which is centered around turkey-focused, comfort-food cuisine. Deandre Moore, an All-American and All-League honoree and freshman wide receiver on the University of Texas football team, is an avid foodie and aspiring philanthropist. Upon Deandre’s arrival in Austin from California, he knew he wanted to make a positive impact in his new home base and promote well-being among underserved neighborhoods. After noticing that most affordable food truck options in the city were beef-based, Moore decided to put his NIL money toward a food truck concept offering turkey-based meals. He enlisted the help of his mother Taleea, a home cook who’s always dreamt of branching out into the restaurant world, and Clark Field Creative, an organization dedicated to facilitating NIL opportunities for UT college athletes. Thus, Deandre’s business concept came to life as Jive Turkey. Along with providing a higher-quality alternative to the beef-dominated food truck scene, Jive Turkey also intends to invest in several philanthropic initiatives, such as donating food to unhoused individuals. “Growing up, I realized what a privilege it was to be able to gather around the table with my family and enjoy my mom’s warm, home-cooked meals,” said Deandre Moore. “As a newer member of the Austin community, I’m grateful to bring those same staples to Austin’s talented food truck scene, while hopefully bringing people together in the process.” Jive Turkey currently has three menu options, priced at $15 each. Choices include the Jive Burger (a turkey burger with iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheese, ketchup, mayo and mustard), the Jive Turkey (a Thanksgiving-inspired cornbread bowl with slow-roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, all of which is topped with gravy and a side of cranberry sauce) and the OJ Jive (a deep-fried turkey taco with iceberg lettuce and cheddar cheese – the meal that first inspired Deandre’s vision for Jive Turkey). Currently, specialty offerings include a nostalgic, three-flavor cup of Kool-Aid and peach Jell-O topped with whipped cream. Additional and seasonal menu items will be announced at a later date. “Upon hearing about Deandre’s innovative idea that’s intertwined with his upbringing, we knew we had to help him bring Jive Turkey to the Austin culinary scene,” said Nick Shuley, founder of Clark Field Creative. “Our goal is to help student-athletes make powerful business concepts a reality, especially when they’re going to impact the community in a positive way.” The food trailer is currently open six days a week. Hours of operation are 5 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. For more information on Jive Turkey, please visit jiveturkeyatx.com and follow along on Instagram at @jiveturkeyatx.18 points

So just a thought here, Dems should start letting it slip they believe she was murdered by the Freedom Caucus, and then open a congressional investigation. You know, poke around with the IRS and what not. Sort of make it a murder mystery, with some bogeymen.17 points

Update from the Aggie 247 board regarding players and comedy: -Aggie fans are now fully into the stage where they're pleading for younger offensive linemen to get playing time ahead of the older players because the younger guys have to be better, right? God. I remember going through seeing this on Shaggy and Surly for a decade. -Dewberry, who they bagged up for 6 figures in the 2022 class, is now comfortably second string behind the Nabou guy from Washington state. He's also from the 2022 class and didn't get paid a dime. -Fatheree, per Tarp, is fully healthy and not playing. -Bisontits has some sort of recurring injury but they're pushing him to keep playing through it. He is currently starting ahead of Fatheree. -Foster had another low effort embarrassment of a game against Auburn but Tarp says the problem there is that, in order to bench him, they'd likely move Nabou there. Apparently Nabou at C and Dewberry at G is a worse combo than Foster snapping the ball and saying "fuck it" as guys blow by him at C and Nabou at G. There's also the distinct possibility that benching Foster would cause his mother to come unhinged and show up redassed and barking in Fisher's office before the sun sets. -Layden Robinson, I believe a 5th year senior, is also grading out really low weekly. Anyone got PFF grades on the aggie OL this year? They're clamoring for someone, anyone to replace him. -They are praising Demeyune Craig for his excellent development of the WR room and giving him credit for "finally signing some studs". One guy goes on to show the WR classes that he's signed and, with a straight face, claims that the 2022 class was the first blue chip class. He literally lists out Dylan Wright, Demand Dumas, and Moose Muhammad as part of the lower ranked classes prior to 2022. Honestly, reading that board is entertaining but they truly speak at times in some sort of code that is largely indecipherable. It's also hard to determine who is actually as full blown stupid as their posts look, and who might be a troll or working on some form of performance art.15 points

Same shit, different year. See, this is personal in the Francisco family. My wife is a fed, and her position is excepted from furlough, so there is no furlough for her---she has to do her job, without pay, until it ends. It really fucks with her mentally, as it would be to most all of us---to have to go to work, knowing that you will not get paid until the shutdown is over with, no matter how long it takes. And you just can't decide not to come in to work as some sort of protest. In her field, it just doesn't work that way. We aren't paycheck to paycheck, so we aren't in a bind financially over this. But still, the impact is real. It's not a vacation, it's the same job she signed up for long ago, with no pay until some date in the future. What it does to the morale of she and her co-workers is incalculable. Right now, it's a nuisance. A week from now, if it is still ongoing, it becomes a problem.14 points

Kazakhstan joined the "Coalition of the Willing" and sent troops to Iraq with us. We used them as Base defense. We assigned them as base defense for Al Asad airbase, which was our most important base in Al-Anbar. My first deployment I was stationed there, and we used to get hit all the time. They did a pretty decent job and got in a few firefights while I was there. edit: Confused my second deployment in Haditha (with Azerbajanis) with my first deployment in Al Asad (with Kazakhstan)14 points
