  1. Kansas in 2016 and blOU in 2021 are the two games I remember where we scored a 75-yard touchdown off of a screen on the first play of the game. We lost both games.
  2. Not if the Big Ten refs can help it!
  3. Ty Simpson looks very close to what I thought Arch Manning would be this year. Strong arm, great downfield thrower, solid pocket presence under pressure and scrambles very well. Of course, it helps that he has a stable pocket and an O-line he can trust.
  4. First drive against blOU ended with Quinn throwing an interception, both last year and the year before. So we can at least improve on that.
  5. Official press release. For inquiries and to reserve your piece of this historic collaboration, please contact: UTPFwatch@41st.org
  6. Parmigiani Fleurier just released a Texas Longhorns limited edition chronograph in burnt orange-and-white.
  7. The top 7 WRs on this list are transfer portal pickups. Really makes you wonder about the ROI when recruiting high school WRs.
  8. Sark has defeated blOU twice. Both times, blOU went on to have a losing season. He's never defeated a blOU team that ended the year with a .500 record or better. If that trend continues next Saturday, it's pretty hard to use this as evidence he can win the big game.
  9. Again, Charlie Weis literally did this at Notre Dame! And it backfired spectacularly! Notre Dame went from a 10-3 record in 2006 to a miserable 3-9 record in 2007. Why are people pretending like holding light, NFL-style practices during the offseason is some newfangled idea? It was tried before and it went tremendously poorly. There's a reason the top CFB coaches like Day, Smart, etc. don't all do it. Why would Sark ever think this nonsense was a good idea after seeing how poorly it went for Weis?

  12. Looks like their old logo from the 1990s, squashed a little flatter and with the red a little darker.

  16. Sark, Banks and Brandon Harris identify the big targets for the assistants to pursue. It became a source of friction with Kenny Baker (who had his own DL targets he wanted to pursue) the previous cycle.
  17. Under Fred Akers: 1982: 10-1-1, Cotton Bowl champions, No. 2 ranking 1983: 11-1, SWC champions, No. 5 ranking 1984: 7-4-1, plummeted from No. 1 to unranked Under Steve Sarkisian: 2023: 12-2, Big 12 champions, No. 3 ranking 2024: 13-3, Peach Bowl champions, No. 4 ranking 2025: 3-2 so far, plummeted from No. 1 to unranked I think we're going to look back on the 2023 and 2024 seasons as the high-water mark of Sark's tenure at Texas, just as the 1981 and 1983 seasons were the peak of Fred Akers' tenure here. In fact, so far this year is looking very similar to our 1984 season, when we plummeted from the No. 1 ranking to unranked by season's end with a 7-4-1 record. Maybe some of the old-timers on Surly can speak to what caused such a big dropoff back then, because it sure seems to be happening again. Presumably the culprit was poor recruiting and long-term planning.
  18. Wasn't Neal Brown hired as an analyst in the offseason to fix our redzone issues? Did he just fall off the face of the Earth or what?
  19. We desperately need 1) fewer penalties, 2) Arch throwing the ball on time, and 3) more 3rd down conversions. I know better than to expect our horrendous O-line to improve before the end of the season (thanks to the Strong and Herman years) but cleaning up the smaller things would go a long way towards giving ourselves a chance to win this week. Reminder; it's been 16 years since we've defeated blOU in back-to-back seasons. If we lose this Saturday, blOU is just 12 games away from evening up the all-time head-to-head in the rivalry (down from 20 games away at the start of the century).
