JD has been pretty good at picking up value veterans that outperform out expectations. He's had some good prospects. My main beef with him is he tends to repeatedly produce the same kind of player, big power, shitty defense, terrible plate discipline. You need guys who play defense and get on base a lot and don't kill rallies with strikeouts. And you need some talented starting pitchers under the age of 45.

Those kinds of players cost money.

  2. If I’m reading correctly, then big 10 payout now is 54 million for full share.

big 12 payout is 38.8 million for tier 1/2.  Texas gets something like 15 million for tier 3, for a total of 53.8 million.

so what’s this about Nebraska making a lot more money than Texas?

not sure how much Nebraska lost while getting a partial share from b10 or how much their t3 rights would be worth on the open market.

It wasn't quite that bad, but close.  Texas had three big second half comebacks in 4 years:

    • 2004 (Austin) - Les Miles' last year. OSU up 35-14 at half. Texas outscores us 42-0 in second half and wins 56-35
    • 2005 (Stillwater) - Gundy's first year. Bad OSU team. Gundy's only losing team. OSU up 28-12 at half before Texas' national champ team decides to stop dicking around. Texas wins 47-28. This one really wasn't that bad because OSU had ZERO business ever even being in this game. Texas was just disinterested for a half.
    • 2006 (Austin) - Texas won 36-10. OSU never in the game.
    • 2007 (Stillwater) - This one was the real killer. OSU finally had it rolling under Gundy; this was the first Zac Robinson/Kendall Hunter/Brandon Pettigrew/Dez Bryant team. OSU was ahead 35-14 going into the fourth quarter and then Jamal Charles went all destroyer mode. Texas wins 38-35 on a FG as time expires.

2008 was a super close game in Austin when Texas was #1 and we were like #15 or so (Texas won 28-24) and then 2009 the Texas team that would have won the title if not for Colt's injury rolled us in Stillwater.

If it helps, that was probably Charles’ second best 4th quarter that season. But you can argue that point with Nebraska if you want to be number one.

  4. Something that’s been bothering me since yesterday about our candidate list.

why is Harrell the only one that is gainfully employed are the coordinator level that’s on it?

is it not possible for Texas to look at who is currently doing a good job as a coordinator and giving them a raise to do a good job here?  Instead of some ex head coaches or guys who lost their job when their coach got fired?

That’s a funny way of saying “I don’t like the Yankees because I’m jealous of their success”.

No, it’s a silly way of saying you are an idiot if you dislike a baseball team because it shares its name with a state police agency.

Mexican-Americans in South Texas have known this since forever. There’s a couple famous corridos about some of the crimes the rangers committed.

Csb: According to family legend I had a great great great granduncle that was (allegedly) a bit of a murderous outlaw in the Laredo region back in the day, and he got arrested and lynched some Rangers. A big reason why I’ll be never root for the baseball team.

And I don’t like the Yankees because a bunch of people called Yankees killed a lot of Americans 150 years ago.

  7. Who cares anymore. The way you win in this league is to either spend like the LA and NY teams, or be so good at drafting and development that you can stock the roster with good, cheap players AND have enough on the farm to trade for what you are missing.  Like Houston has done. Think about Correa, bregman, springer, gurriel, all coming up at the relative same time, plus Alvarez, and what they had that they used to get McCann, verlander, and cole.

Texas isn’t willing to spend and has zero track record of draft/development. Shit show.

Hmmm, our offense didn't fail miserably this past...season?

If we had a merely ok defense and halfway competent special teams, the offense would have scored more points per yards gained and the numbers would have looked much better.

yes, the offense struggled to get out of its own way sometimes, but it is the least pressing issue about the team right now.

If Bill Burr was still drinking, he definitely would have leaked what episode he makes an appearance in.

It’s long been assumed that Moff Gideon played by Gus Fring is the big bad. Gus has appeared in promotional materials for Episode 7, so we’ll see him at the latest by then. It is a curious move to introduce the primary antagonist this late in any show. Especially a new show.

Moffs are the Imperial equivalent of a 5 star general. There were only 20 of them in the entire galaxy at the height of the Empire. Needless to say, Gideon should be a pretty accomplished bad ass.

So was grand moff a rank above moff?  Was tarkin the only one?

One thing that has stood out to me is that Dr. M seems resigned to his fate. No urgency at all to save himself from the 7K. He only intervenes to save Angela.

It’s been pointed out on podcasts that Dr. M constantly feels the pain and fear of his creation. He also feels all of his emotions, all the time, all at once. This doesn’t seem like a very enjoyable existence. Maybe he wants to die?

Fogdancer is about a super solider that constantly feels regret and sorrow about his actions during the Vietnam War. It’s thesis:  the only escape is death.

Also one more small thing, I didn’t see a man behind the canon immediately before or after it captured Dr. M. Maybe it was locked on to him and set to fire automatically?

But as Angela points out, why would he have fear since he knows what happens from the time of his accident until his destruction, minus the decade as cal. And normally I’d say the missing decade would be filled in by learning of things afterward, but it seems so far that his destruction might be right after he “wakes up,” in which case he probably knows very little about the last 10 years of his life.

    Tom Herman has aspergers.

    prove me wrong.

The DSM-5 states, “Individuals with a well-established DSM-IV diagnoses of autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified should be given the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.”

aspergers is no longer a clinical diagnosis. Consider yourself proven wrong.
    have a blessed day.
