  1. It appears Russia are now struggling to even get to the 1st lines. This is the way it should be. It’s things like attacking the Russian rear, cutting off supply lines and destroying formations before they cross the border which will allow us to regain the initiative, largely caused by the Shell Hunger and our inept understanding that Russia has declared war on not just UKraine, but the entire West!
  2. No gore, but not a pleasant video. Russian "Z-bloggers" share a video where Russian soldiers are humiliating Ukrainian PoWs. According to preliminary information, this took place in the Kharkiv direction where Russians are attempting an offense. The video notes beatings, humiliation, threats, imitation of shooting. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has written official letters to International Red Cross Committee and the UN so they file this fact.
  3. Interview with English subtitles of 24 yo russian captured in North Karkhiv. Out of 300, only 9 of them remained after a few days. He speaks of colossal losses, confusion and blocking troops. There are told to move forward no matter what. When they arrive at the first UA village, it was empty. Then it was a rain of fire....
  4. First video I've seen of that destroyed convoy
  5. "Denys Yaroslavsky, commander of a reconnaissance battalion in Ukraine’s 57th Brigade, entered the border town of Vovchansk on May 2, accompanied by four battalions of exhausted troops. Fresh from the battlefield in a different northeastern city, they soon realized their new positions were the first line of defense — and that only 200 troops were already stationed in the town. When Russian forces pushed in just over a week later, he said, 'we lost almost the entire battalion.'" @AlexHortonTX @siobhan_ogrady @michaelbirnbaum @nakashimae Kostiantyn Khudov washingtonpost.com/national-secur… "Yaroslavsky and his reconnaissance battalion were hunkered down in Vovchansk just hoping to survive. That day, he said, his troops weathered an 'insane' number of glide bomb strikes — more than 40 in 24 hours." "Kozhemyako, the founder of Khartia, also said his troops had suffered punishing hits as Washington deliberated the policy shift. Over the past 20 days, he said, they have come under 250 glide bomb strikes, attacks so powerful that even those who are not badly wounded or killed are often traumatized and concussed by the shock waves. After the airstrikes, Russian ground troops then storm their positions, he said."
  6. A Russian supply base in the industrial district of Shebekino, Belgorod Region, Russia, was wiped out this morning. In the debris field, parts of a missiles can be seen. Russian propaganda initially claimed that a civilian market was hit, but the location is neither civilian nor the debris seen on the pictures. It proves that Ukrainian Forces are starting to destroy Russian military support bases for their incursion in Kharkiv Region. Coordinates of the impacts: 50°24'38.61"N, 36°54'21.95"E Source of pics: Telegram / Fonartv Russian S-300/400 air defence system battery was targeted by HIMARS in the Belgorod region of Russia: “The video shows the result of the strike on the S-300/400 air defense system in the Belgorod region. The strike was carried out using the HIMARS MLRS. Presumably, without casualties among personnel. 01-02.06.2024”
  7. An overview of Ukrainian attacks with both missiles and drones (long-range UAVs and naval drones) in and around occupied Crimea during 2024 that caused confirmed damage. In recent weeks, Ukraine has increased the pace of attacks, through new ATACMS deliveries, but also through the use of its own drones and missiles, especially in the south and southeast of Crimea. This is how it should be done:
  8. The President of France, Emmanuel Macron is expected to announce the Establishment of a “Coalition of the Willing” during a Speech given during the D-Day Memorial Celebrations in France on June 6th, with this Coalition expected to include Lithuania, Britain and several other European Countries that Support the Deployment of Military Instructors to Ukraine. Instructors and Trainers from these Countries would then begin arriving in Ukraine shortly after or even before the Speech, with French Training Advisors claimed to possibly already be at Facilities in Western Ukraine.
  9. Blinken and the larger administration's messaging has been so inconsistent and unclear on this but they seem to be moving ever so slowly (their MO for the duration of this war) in the right direction (see NYT article below). Inside the White House, a Debate Over Letting Ukraine Shoot U.S. Weapons Into Russia After a sobering trip to Kyiv, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is urging the president to lift restrictions on how Ukraine can use American arms. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/us/politics/white-house-ukraine-weapons-russia.html#:~:text=Inside the White House%2C a,Ukraine can use American arms.
  10. Interesting shakeup here. How many generals do they have if it's supposedly going to make a difference in their ability to provide rest to current front line troops?? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/05/24/ukraine-generals-front-line-russia-soldiers/ Ukraine to fire generals and send them to front lineMove to cut top brass by two thirds aims to boost morale among rank and file soldiers feeling the heat from Russian aggression.
  11. Here's a real escalation Russia starts ‘tactical nuclear drills’ near Ukraine border https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/5/22/russia-starts-tactical-nuclear-drills-near-ukraine-border
  12. Incoming from just across the Russian border...but Ukraine shouldn't shoot back because that will escalate things.
  13. This is solid trolling. Well done
  14. Lots of people saying it's confirmed. JUST IN: Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi is confirmed dead after rescuers reached the crash site. Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is also dead. The discovery came after a long night of searching in freezing conditions. Shortly before the discovery, Iranian Red Crescent Society head Pir-Hossein Kolivand said the situation was “not good.” According to Reuters, the helicopter was completely burned in the crash.
  15. Here's some unfortunate clarity.
  16. 3. Which Surly poster will out their fetish on this thread?
  17. Ruh-roh. The Defense Minister was also on board. "Raisi, 63, is a hard-liner who formerly led the country’s judiciary. He is viewed as a protégé of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some analysts have suggested he could replace the 85-year-old leader after his death or resignation from the role. Raisi won Iran’s 2021 presidential election, a vote that saw the lowest turnout in the Islamic Republic’s history. Raisi is sanctioned by the U.S. in part over his involvement in the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988 at the end of the bloody Iran-Iraq war. Under Raisi, Iran now enriches uranium at nearly weapons-grade levels and hampers international inspections. Iran has armed Russia in its war on Ukraine, as well as launched a massive drone-and-missile attack on Israel amid its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It also has continued arming proxy groups in the Mideast, like Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Lebanon’s Hezbollah."
  18. Contrary to the text of the tweet below, this is a pretty unclear answer here by Blinken regarding Ukraine striking in Russia with American weapons
