CA I believe is the largest car market in the US.  In addition about a dozen other states have voluntarily latched onto the CA standards making it a defacto standard for most of the country's citizens.  What Detroit does not want is to have to create two versions of every model in the US.  Since two versions is not an economic option, they can either 1.) make every car in the US adhere to the CA standard or 2.) lobby their new lap dogs in government to do their bidding.  Perhaps the automotive industry submitted an "action plan" to the government.

Well, we better stop exporting vehicles too so it's not so hard on Detroit. Seriously, what a stupid fucking argument.

  2. You heard it here, folks. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin was the worst thing to ever happen to black people.

Believe him, his black friends totally back him up on it.

One of the most dominant performances by one person in the final I've ever seen. Dude is everywhere at once.

Yep, though I think 'Melo's game in the Final is still the best I've ever watched personally

  4. It's fun to hide behind the Constitution but...

You realize that's an entirely different question than you were asking before, and has nothing to do with my statement about public policy, right?

But, I'm in a sporting mood, so I'll indulge you.  Assuming the property in question is not receiving public funding, I'd say yes, but it has nothing to do with the potential tenant's race, or religion.  I believe it is a fundamental right of property ownership to choose who you allow to occupy it.

Similar to a recent case in Seattle that the judge deemed unconstitutional.

...this is an assumption, and a bad one. Perhaps for you and me, personally, it would have nothing to do with those things, but this type of discrimination absolutely has and does happen, so this is a pretty naive position to take. Seeing as this type of discrimination is explicitly covered under the Fair Housing Act, I'm not sure how you are claiming with a straight face that being part of a protected minority class is a "special interest". The case you linked is irrelevant. Obviously, landlords should be able to carefully choose who they rent to, but based on qualities that are not covered in the FHA.

My daughter is (with others) leading one of these walkouts. It’s an unexcused absence. That’s exactly what it would be for no free ice cream or abortion.
And yet there is no free ice cream and they don’t walk out to protest the lack of free ice cream. Or the availability of abortion.

Your point is dumb and your assumptions are false, QED.

Yeah I don't know what he's going on about. I've said like 15 times already in this thread that policies already exist for unexcused absences.

In all seriousness, I thought about making a post on the old Shaggy about the white working class becoming culturally ostracized in America, and some of that frustration being manifested in voting for the Dotard. My data points were going to be movies and TV and how there seem to be less out now that caters to this audience than there was 20 - 30 years ago. Roseanne was a show that I would have specifically mentioned. This was 6 months ago before we knew of the remake. I would have been freaking Nostradamus. Now, none of you will believe me.

With that said, I doubt the show's good ratings have anything to do with politics. Maybe Hollywood finally is paying attention to an audience it has been ignoring, but even that sounds like a stretch.

We'll see how the ratings are for episodes 2 and 3. More likely, it's interest that's purely nostalgia driven. Then again, nostalgia drove some people to the polls in November of  '16.

He didn't even win the popular vote but sure
