  1. Question..is instant coffee so different that it will mess your stomach up while regular coffee does not?

Our coffee consumption at home has dropped to minimal, so we started using Folgers instant in the little tubular packages. Every single time I drink it I get sour acidy stomach, yet if I drink coffee at a cafe etc I do not. Since I've got to have my morning caffeine gone t drinking the small 8.4oz Red Bulls, but damn those things are expensive.  What say ye Surly?

30 years ago, it was my first day on the job. It was a small company.  I showed up early and the receptionist let me in.  They had a coffee machine exactly like this, as had my previous employer.  At my previous employer, there wasn't a direct water line, so you filled the reservoir with a coffee pot full of water and then brewed.
Seeking to make a good impression, I made coffee exactly as I thought it should be done.  I filled the reservoir with a pot full of water, put the filter and coffee in, pressed brew, and went on about my business.
Because there WAS a direct water line into the machine at this new employer, the machine proceeded to pump the regular amount of water, plus the extra pot that I put in the reservoir, through the filter.  There was coffee all over the kitchen.
Way to make a first impression!

    Is this from Reader's Digest?

No, it's from "Brown Nose Weekly".

Same with my pops.  When it changed they sent him some form letter asking if he wanted a TAMU-C diploma reprint, he didnt reply.  He said back in the day some called it Easy-T

Thankful that my dad didn't know that his beloved Texas A&I University was corrupted and soiled by aggy.

Jesus. Obviously I think Baker Mayfield is a complete assclown, but I can't begin to imagine being swindled out of $12 million by your own dad.

Yep, sounds like a classy bloodline to me.

Dang.  Legs Diamond.  Haven’t heard them mentioned in years.  Opening act for Triumph back in 1980 or so.  Texas Hall on UTA campus.

    Good luck with your woman.

Thanks deadshank, I'm going to need it.

Perhaps we need to define how "important" is used as a descriptor.  Certainly the word can be used within the realm of music, its development, originality, so on and so forth. The same can apply to individual songwriters and musicians.  All within the framework of music.  Innovators, virtuosos, classics, etc.  Sure.  There are surely important people, songs and compositions.

Using "important" as a descriptor when referring to any particular music or musical piece itself or to the musician / composer / singer as if its importance is somehow world-affecting on the macro level seems aggrandizing and silly to me.

I recall a few years ago that Guns and Roses had a new album or a tour that was kicking off and the promotional spot on TV delicately mentioned that it was "the most important" such and such of the last so many years.  Important?  Really?  What makes those meatheads and their music so important?   We're talking GnR here.  Sure, you can really dig them, rock out to them and enjoy them.  Important?  Hardly.

Similarly, Brandi Carlile released The Joke and someone on Surly decreed the song to be "so important!"  Certainly they can like the song.  I agree it is thoughtful, well sung and arranged.  Important?  For someone?  Sure.  Just important because,  "well it's important!"  Nah.

It's just my opinion.  I'm not looking to fight over it.  You asked.

    OK....let's fight.

Important,  is an individual point in how it touches the individual listener..what touches one heart may not touch any other. It's dependent on one's personal situation,  timing and mood at that moment. What's important to me, in this moment is probably unimportant to anyone else, but that doesn't matter. For example, I'm living in hell right now with a woman who has gone totally insane. The most important music to me, right now at this very moment is "Woman" by Legs Diamond, the lyrics express my feelings in a way I never could have on my own.

Damn. I always had mixed emotions about Robert Reid. He played college ball in San Antonio, but his career with the Rockets made me really dislike him.

My shoulder orthopedic surgeon told me “it’s hard to improve on pain free”.

    FWTW.

That's one reason why I'm hesitant about the surgery. While I'm not pain free, it has dropped from an 8 to about a 3 or 4.

Do you trust the doc or get a second opinion?

It's not that I don't trust him, it's just damn I'm so sick and tired of being cut on, especially with the shoulder feeling so much better the last 3 weeks. Medicare said if I want a 2nd opinion they weren’t paying for it. I'm tempted to just say to hell with it regardless of consequences further damage etc.

Yep it was. Aired December 2015. But once something comes to Netflix, a whole new set of eyeballs get to see programs they normally wouldn't. A lot of sports fans never really kept up with the 30 for 30 series. And this puts this episode front and center for so many. They also had another version of wide right and another playoffs choke job they can add to their history. Buffalo of the 90s is the Vikings of the 70s, except they didn't lose all 4 in a row. 2 franchises who had some really good teams but never won the big one.

I watched it again and it was really good.

Their first and last Super Bowls were the ones they had a chance to win. The middle two they were ran off the field. Dallas played pretty poor in the 1st half of the second Buffalo Super Bowl with them 2. But Buffalo couldn't pull away and a turnover in the 3rd qtr really turned the game and they never recovered.

The Buffalo/NYG Super Bowl is still the only Super Bowl I can think of that had a game winning FG like that where it was win or lose. All of Vinateri's for NE was with the score tied so a miss wouldn't have lost the game on that kick. I was really surprised how welcoming Buffalo fans were of Norwood when they had the huge event for them after they lost the Giants Super Bowl. Not sure how welcoming fanbases would be today if that happened. Seems fans are more rabid these days

The poor Bills couldn't even keep their running back from quiting on them.

  11. Just got results back from CT scans on right shoulder. I am amazed that despite the shoulder feeling great that surgery is still being recommended.  Would it be possible to get Surly docs opinion if I post the test results? With mods permission of course. Very down over this whole ordeal, Thanks...

band today isn’t the same as it was during our time. Hyper competitiveness in athletics has driven a larger number of “cool” and good looking kids into the band, at least at the big Texas high schools.

Yeah, back in my day the band was1 tuba player, 2 trumpet players, 1 drummer, 1 each saxophone and clarinet player, and 1 strange smiling girl that could never find her flute.

Theres a dude at work who, based on how he stands and how he walks, you’d never guess he was missing a fucking leg 🦵. Other than that fact, he looks lean and wiry in a rockclimber kind of way.

Anyway, turns out he’s a para-olympian with 6 medals across 4 events, including 2 gold. The motherfucker.

Congrats to 52-80 on his 2,000 year old child-bride, I guess?

But I guess you live long enough, you learn how to invent "a Cotton Sponge"...what the fuck that is?  There's an 80% chance he makes her live outside in a tent, regardless of the weather, during her "unclean" time.

    Cotton sponge had me rolling...

It’d be fine if there was some originality but constantly spamming the board with the same dozen aggy gifs gets the banhammer. One of the few people I put on ignore.
