  1. Can he at least pitch the 9th, then?
  2. Altuve obviously is our GOAT, or on a very short list. But whether mostly chasing rings or 3000 hits, he's doing a lot of things backwards to get there. When he hit the skids a few weeks ago I saw some fans claiming he'd bounce back any day, because he'd recently destroyed the Yankees in their park. But he hasn't. Every HR he pulls seems to make him more convinced he can yank the next pitch over or at least deep into LF. But that's not what made him special in the first place. He has to go back to hitting the ball where it's pitched. The slower his hands get with age (everyone's do), the more he has to just look to make solid contact. The coaches need to coach that, and he needs to listen.
  3. About as good a summation as I've read. I was pretty ambivalent about losing Bregman, Tucker, Verlander and Pressly, despite their career track records. But once Paredes went down, and then Hader, the bubble burst. Maybe we just haven't had enough horses to get it done, though I can't find any excuse for the apparent lack of leadership with this bunch. The veterans have only days left to show they care as much as the fans do.
  4. I've seen enough bad baseball in the past two months to last me a lifetime. I know some fans are trying to wish it all away and think we'll "turn it on" any day now, but seems to me we're only getting worse. Thankful for Texas football and volleyball in the near term.
  5. Two garbage foulouts to 1B by the GOAT who's quickly becoming the goat. But Javier is throwing BP anyway, so whatever. It's a train wreck in slow motion.
  6. This clown show is no longer entertaining. Fire the ringmaster.
  7. True. But for now, I'd let him "break out" at 6 or deeper in the lineup. Not that other options at 4 are great, but I'd much rather have Diaz there while he's swinging it well.
  8. Hmmmm. Altuve at 4 seems bad. Put Diaz there. We're hamstrung enough with Trammell and Dubon in the lineup.
  9. I started to add a "but" diatribe noting that Altuve has fallen off the face of the earth, but I decided to see if he might do anything at all productive over the next few weeks. I doubt he will, but who knows? I suspect he's somewhat like Verlander: old and stubborn and at this point only occasionally useful. Hate it but won't deny it if he doesn't come around before October.
  10. Correa's swing has looked good. Thumbs up to Citron and the player for that.
  11. That was a true gut check. Errors everywhere, but tough as nails late.
  12. This dude does not abide.
  13. Good stuff. Stanford and the last few points have to build some belief, no matter how it ends.
  14. Hammer time, to go with some major digging.
  15. Not saying they're bigger than us, just that they were playing that way. Or conversely, that we seemed to be playing smaller.
  16. Looking rather small and shy out there. That's not how you beat a big, skilled opponent.
  17. Hmmm. Guess I'm blind. But on to the next.
  18. Not quite the way you draw it up, but a W. Too bad JA didn't get it.
  19. Always a pitch away. Always a hit away. Both signs of a team going nowhere.
  20. Louisville looks solid. Digging a deep, early hole didn't help.
  21. With Garcia going out, it's obvious we need to find that voodoo doll and bury it. Along with someone's glove. Perhaps while the player is wearing it. So what's different now from a few years back? I question that it's fully explained away by the departure of Bregman, Tucker, JV or Yuli or a lack of team health. We're not supremely talented across the board, but as much as anything else, there seems to be a serious lack of clubhouse leadership. Maybe that left with the aforementioned players or has been disguised by terrible injury "luck," but I have a hunch it's mainly an Espada issue. And I say that as never having been a fan of Dusty, though as this train's kept heading off the bridge he's started to grow on me.
  22. Brice time. We're not winning jack this year, so throw some fresh meat onto the grill. And just get the inevitable Espada canning over with.
  23. Who's the actual leader of this bunch of misfit toys? Do we have one? If it's Altuve, no wonder we're a wreck.
