So if we get Brooks, it will not be surprising and sort of expected. But if he goes to Georgia, it wasn’t unexpected or really all that surprising. Got it.
Yes. That's how decisions work.

Tom Petty says "hold my beer".
In a perfect alternative universe, John Fogerty and Tom Petty would have collaborated on an album and it would be nothing but perfect licks, hooks, riffs, and melodies.

Necro-bumping this thread. Didn't know that CCR's greatest hits album constantly hovers within the billboard top-20 best selling albums. CCR is the best

It's not "the strongest" of all time, but I remember being instantly captivated by Last of Us.

Happy Hatch Chile Eve! Anyone spotted 'em yet?
HEB at Brodie in Austin has had a few small boxes of hot hatch peppers for the last two weeks. Made a green chili pork last week and the hot peppers they had were legitimately hot.
Sure they're overrated. Sure they're just Anaheim peppers. I don't give a shit. I enjoy the excuse to make a bunch of green chili dishes.-

The move is to walk over to Posse, Crown, or Hole in the Wall, have a few post-game drinks, and wait for shit to die down before you try to get a rideshare.

Why would anyone risk being engulfed in the flames created by ctj's superhuman speed? The only man POTENTIALLY capable of competing with and/or surviving such a race is Teddy Lehman.

I can do without walkable and Uber as needed if it works better location wise. We will have at least one vehicle so we can make it work. Again, looking at maybe going with the Lake Travis area and driving everywhere also, but wanted to see what locations made sense a lot closer.
Cost is what it is. Daughter’s roommate has a close friend at UT so they are going either way, game/race cover both kids, fall break week for the youngest already, might meet a surly asshole, what more could you ask for.
Edit to add, thanks to those with the serious replies. Looking at some of those areas now.
Lake Travis is very fucking far from the things you'll be wanting to do while you're here. If you want to hang out at the lake all day, it will be good for you. But if you're planning on doing F1, going to the Georgia game, hitting up stuff in the city, you definitely do not want to be in Lake Travis.

Walkable? Downtown, near east side close to 6th street, south congress area and adjacent streets between oltorf and riverside. Walkability requirements significantly limit your search criteria. If you have a car or don't mind a short uber, that opens things up to anywhere north of 71 up to around Hyde Park area between MoPac and 183 east, but there are still some "not nice" spots on the east side west of 183.
Also, if you can afford an airbnb that weekend, I think you owe it to sponsor a happy hour before the Georgia game for the entire board.

Just had their catfish PO-boy and it was good. They said they're trying to expand south, possibly around McKinney falls area. Asked about the Yakamein and it's only available in the winter. Would recommend.
Is that the same trailer that used to be on the patio at C Boys? If so, I had a shrimp and oyster po boy from there a long time ago and remember it being very good.

I know of no great place to put this: without planning it, we ended up downtown last night at dinner time, so we decided to drop into 24 Diner (6th & Lamar). We've eaten there plenty, but it's been a year or more. Man, that place needs a reboot. Torn booth upholstery, dirty menus, almost empty at 7 PM. I had some biscuits and gravy that weren't great (the fried eggs were fine), and my wife got the roast chicken which she said was decent or better, but her veggie sides were a mess. Beer choices sucked.
Time for a new concept.
I've never liked that place. I've been a few times because my wife used to love their veggie burger, and if we're hungry after record shopping at Waterloo it's pretty convenient. But I always pushed to go to Counter Cafe back when it was open a few doors down.

You’re still in the serious portion of your Type 2 diagnosis. Get a Dexcom or freestyle CGM and you’ll see how foods affect your glucose. Carbs aren’t all carbs. Just add more meds you can eat about anything.I've got a Libra 3. I also take insulin, metformin, and jardiance. I've been able to keep my glucose in range for 99% of the time over the last few months. I mostly eat wheat bread when eating bread carbs, and do occasionally eat white bread and am still able to stay in range. If anything, I'm struggling with dropping into low glucose territory during the night. I've got my second visit with an endocrinologist next month and I assume we'll have a better understanding of what my treatment plan and diet is going to be. But right now I'm just trying to avoid unnecessary carbs and eat right.
Sorry for the diabetes hijack.

What the fuck happens to all the water in the upper part of the greenbelt? There are millions of gallons of water in Lost Creek but just a few miles downstream Sculpture Falls is dry as a bone (or at least it was a few days ago before the rains).
Also, where does the water come from? It has not rained significantly prior to this week, but the water was flowing pretty good at Lost Creek. Is it spring-fed and eventually the water table gets so low that no more water flows?
-
Looks like only 2021 saw us get through July without a significant net drop in water levels. This is the only significant net increase in water level in July that I can remember. It never rains like this in July.

Walk-ons are just a weird dynamic that shouldn't exist in modern CFB.
To be fair, they are rewarded in a large amount of top-shelf poon as football players at the University of Texas. Can't put a price on that.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted in this thread. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in April - which should probably be the official disease of this thread. So no white bread, refined carbs for me. Had to pour one out for chili cheese dogs.
But sausage is a-ok. Opa’s jalapeño and cheddar links with some shitty red wine, which I’m drinking because I also get gout now, and wine is better for gout than beer.
Actually, what should be the official disease of the Shank thread? Gout or Type 2? Either way, I’m sponsored.-

He was circling him in episode 2 I think
Which is fucking ludicrous. Dragons have never sought out and self-selected non-Targaryens for their riders. Rhaenyra thought to match her unaffiliated dragons with non-Targaryen riders last week. They tried it with one guy and it didn't work. Then, immediately after, the dragon decides "Fuck that. I'm just gonna go pick someone" despite the fact that it's never happened before? It's absurd.

Didn’t have to. Why did we have a draft during Vietnam and not one now. The straits are dire. I thought the show explained that pretty clearly
How would the dragon know the straits are dire? Is the dragon fluent in human language and people explained that "Hey Seasmoke. Times are tough. We're gonna need to pair you up". (and he was like, 'I get it, but lemme just torch your first choice before I go pick this black dude'). A dragon selecting its own non-Targaryen rider has never happened before. It's unprecedented, as we're lead to believe.

So up until this point, it had never occurred to Rhaenyra that "non-Targaryens with questionable lineage" could potentially be dragon riders. They find one of those dudes, and he gets torched by Seasmoke. Then Seasmoke goes out for a casual post-torch flight only to decide that he was going to select his own dragon rider. And he does this coincidentally just after Rhaenyra determined that this was a possibility? Why didn't this happen before with any other unclaimed dragon? What a fucking coincidence.

The Mount Rushmore of Country Music Songwriters would be tough. Hank's gotta be on there just because of who he is, historically, and what he put out in such a short period of time. Harlan Howard is probably a lock. Willie is also probably a lock. Dean Dillon would be up for consideration. Dolly Parton as well. Bobby Braddock certainly has a case to make.
My Mount Rushmore would definitely include Townes, but I know that wouldn't be the case for the average country music fan. Cindy Walker had some hits that are in the cannon, but I don't think she did enough to make it to the top four.
Then how do you take into consideration modern country "songwriters" where, much like modern pop, every song by a major artist has like 4 people that get a co-songwriting credit. Guys like Shane McAnally and Ashley Gorley are credited with more charting singles than anyone from a previous era. But how much credit do they deserve?

True. But all the rain went into the Buchanan watershed while very little fell in the Travis watershed. Forecast went from 1.5 inches this morning down to about a quarter of an inch for Austin. Although it looks like another round is supposed to come later tonight, so fingers crossed...
