  1. Soroka gets hit with a pitch and leaves after two innings and they manage to find a way to win. This team, man.
  2. 1) they want to have the tournament the same year as the European Championships. 2) They're changing the format. Two groups of 6, still a round robin in group play, top four in each group advance and they're doing a north south geographical split north (Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Australia or Qatar) and south (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Australia or Qatar) 3) it appears as if it's done.
  3. Brazil vs Japan/Ecuador winner or Paraguay if Japan and Ecuador draw
  4. Don't tell any Uruguayans that, they'll try to shank you.
  5. If Paraguay beats Colombia and Argentina beats Qatar, Colombia finishes first (6pts), Paraguay finishes 2nd (5pts) and Argentina finishes 3rd (4pts). The 2nd place team in group plays the 2nd place team in group plays the 2nd place team in group A which is Venezuela. The 3rd place team in Group B only plays Brazil if the third place team in Group A gets in because there can't be rematches of group games in the QF. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Copa_América
  6. Going to ignore that is really means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and just enjoy that it is nice to stomp a mud hole in someone.
  7. If Argentina wins they're through no matter what. The top two third place teams go through and they'd have better goal differential than Peru so they'd be in the QF vs Brazil if Peru gets in or Chile/Uruguay if Japan gets in.
  8. Cameroon has grown into the game. Not sure if they have enough quality to keep the pressure on and get the equalizer but I'm rooting for it. I want to see how England handles adversity.
  9. They love to scissor kick with her and scissor with her
  10. You know it's your night when Jozy Altidore makes an absolutely incredible flick to set up a goal. What a time to be alive.
  11. If the US loses the team that beats them is going to bunkering and countering. I really don't think there's a team that can beat them trying to play on the front foot. The US looks so much better than the rest of the field.
  12. Two Cameroon players needed medical attention at the end of the game but Fox was just like "who cares?" and went to US pregame coverage
  13. Well that was about the quickest I've ever jinxed someone
  14. Netherlands path to the final looks like Japan, Italy and Germany. That's not terribly formidable. They can make the final and then who knows?
  15. This anecdote about Jose Gimenez's Uruguay debut and how he drove Falcao crazy is pretty great.
  16. The foul was two feet outside the box. Utterly incompetent officiating to call it a penalty in the first place.
  17. Seven minutes of stoppage time. I'm beginning to think CONMEBOL is trying to rig this for Argentina.
  18. Otamendi should be off for his second yellow, but because the ref just didn't give him one for a clear yellow card foul he's still on. Atrocious officiating tonight.
  19. How in the fuck did Otamendi not get a card for the tackle that led to the penalty kick?
  20. There's an angle that shows the spin on the ball changed, but I don't know how you can definitively say it hit his hand. Crazy call.
  21. Here's the run and assist from Almiron on the Paraguay goal. I love him so much.
  22. I can say with total confidence that Miguel Almiron is better than Messi and the scoreline reflects that.
  23. James Rodriguez with an absurd pass on Colombia's goal vs Qatar
  24. nope, same number of teams. edit: If Cameroon wins tomorrow 13 of the 16 teams that made the knockout stage four years ago will make it this year. I also think the perception is skewed because of the US. Four years ago the pots were the seeds, CAF/CONCACAF/OFC, UEFA and AFC/CONMEBOL. The United States drew the toughest possible group (Sweden, Australia, Nigeria). This year they went to the traditional FIFA rankings seeding the way the men's World Cup does and the US got the worst team from pot 3 (somehow Thailand wasn't in pot 4) As a result the US beat up on two of the worst teams in the tournament to start the WWC this year. Four years ago the US didn't look all that convincing until the semifinals.
