  1. I forgot he existed tbh
  2. Emerson Hyndman who captained the U20 team at the World Cup in 2015 made his Atlanta United debut the other night and played pretty well. If he plays regularly he'll probably find his way into the player pool. Another potential attacking midfield option.
  3. Dries Mertens not looking forward to training starting
  4. I know the Hex is a long way off, but I'm curious in the interim how the FIFA rankings are going to change things. Currently the Hex would be Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras, El Salvador. I kinda want to see Curacao get into the Hex.
  5. Undoubtedly. MLS and the team need to stop pretending Orlando is Atlanta's rival. The Red Bulls are. Both teams hate each other. The referee went into the locker room to give Larentowicz a red card after the game because of a skirmish at the end. It's an organic rivalry not this bullshit "geographical" rivalry they have with Orlando.
  6. Atlanta United so thoroughly whipped their asses in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals last year Red Bulls fans barely showed up for the return leg so none of the Red Bulls "owning" Atlanta has even come close to mattering that much.
  7. She's a winger. Ellis played her at fullback to get her on the field. She's been an attacking player her whole career.
  8. This is going to be the subtitle of Tobin Heath's autobiography. These numbers are absolutely stunning considering she was playing out of position. What a baller.
  9. I think a gold medal in 2020 would be a send off for Rapinoe, Lloyd, Sauerbrunn and Krieger. If Heath's club form stays sharp over the next couple of years I could see her coming back in 2023. Press may stick around because if Rapinoe retires she becomes a starter until someone younger unseats her. US Soccer is going to try and keep Alex Morgan around as long as they can. They will try to keep her playing until she's 40.
  10. We got thoroughly dominated in the second half by Mexico's B team. That's not even up for debate.
  11. US Soccer is in the midst of a lost generation. A few articles have been written about how the generation born between 1990 and 1994, which should be the backbone of the program, have yielded very few good players for the USMNT. The outfield players on the US Gold Cup roster within that generation: Tyler Boyd, Paul Arriola, Jordan Morris, Gyasi Zardes, Will Trapp, Aaron Long, Daniel Lovitz, Walker Zimmerman and Nick Lima. The only players with more than 20 USMNT caps in that group are Zardes and Morris, MLS lifers who either never had a sniff in Europe or chose to go the big fish in a small pond route. The USMNT had two choices to combat this lost generation problem: roll the dice and take your lumps with a young roster or keep trying to put a Band Aid on a bullet wound. They chose the latter. So coming out of the Gold Cup what do we know about the USMNT roster going forward? Pulisic is the best talent the US has ever produced. McKennie is probably going to be a stud. We knew all of that. We literally learned nothing else. I know you guys like to shit on the Gold Cup for good reason, but any functional soccer federation would’ve used it as a measuring stick to see what progress was made since failing to qualify for the World Cup, but the US Soccer federation isn’t functional. We’ve talked ad nauseum about how they dragged their feet hiring a coach and that continues to fuck the USMNT. Not only that, but Tata Martino, who wanted the USMNT job, absolutely kicked his ass last night. The first half was back and forth, Martino made adjustments and Mexico’s B team kicked the shit out of what is pretty much the best the US has to offer right now. I know Tyler Adams was missing, but Tyler Adams doesn’t close the gap between the US and Mexico who didn’t have Lozano, Vela, Herrera, Layun, Corona and others. People have always wondered if and when the US could and would compete with the biggest soccer nations consistently on the world stage but consider this: After a shit performance at the 2000 Euros the German soccer federation in fear of embarrassing itself again, particularly with a World Cup on home soil coming up, completely rebuilt its system placing an emphasis on youth development. The inability for the US to compete on the international stage isn’t entirely about resources. It’s about wherewithal and ingenuity. US Soccer has none of that. It is going to remain a rudderless ship.

  14. Yeah. Miedema is a beast. Martens is an excellent player but nursing a toe injury. Van De Sanden hasn't been playing well in the tournament so they may go with Beerensteyn in the starting lineup again. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  15. I'm gathering you're extremely unfamiliar with Portland. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  16. It depends. She undoubtedly brings a skill level on the ball in the center of the pitch nobody else has. She's also been incredibly inconsistent in the tournament. If she's at her best Sunday no way the Dutch win. It's also concerning she's nursing a hamstring injury because she's had hamstring issues in the past. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  19. I'm vacationing in Portland Maine right now and they have an Irish Pub that is part of a small chain (8 locations Nationwide) that is open Sunday. I think plenty of places will open up for it. The one time I'm happy in the Eastern Time zone. 11am isn't that early and a lot of places will have Sunday brunch. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  21. That's what happens when a thirty percent capacity NFL stadium has to sit through a 90 minute weather delay to watch the USMNT. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  22. Was impressed with him when he played in the U20 World Cup and he pretty much single handedly beat Atlanta in the playoffs two years ago. He's a talented kid. Hopefully he gets PT in Europe. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  23. Watching CP and McKennie boss this tournament and then Zardes do Zardes things shows how ideologically lacking the USMNT is. If you're going to pretend this tournament matters and make CP, McKennie and Adams (pre-injury) show up then get as many guys with a USMNT future out there as possible. Bringing Zardes instead of Sargeant is unforgivable. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
