Just to be clear, this topic can’t be summed up with a simple “teenagers being teenagers” statement. A social movement took place this summer and many of us applauded the response by players and staff. This whole “Eyes” conversation needs to die like our hopes of watching a competitive team, it’s trivial.

However, Herman unequivocally deserves to be fired for fielding a progressively declining team that seems to forget how to play football many times a game.

Just so I'm clear, I didn't say anything about any social movement or The Eyes.  I applaud his handling of the SJM issues, and standing with his team.  But so did many other coaches across the country.  I am indifferent on The Eyes, because frankly I see both sides of the argument.

I stated earlier in this thread that Herman's handling of player personnel issues would be his downfall because of the damage it would do in the locker room.  Allowing players to enter the portal and begging them to return, quit during a game and return, skip weeks of team events because they "didn't feel like being here", etc. are what I'm talking about.  Frankly, Herman has no backbone, has no respect in that locker room, and then tops if off by acting like an asshole.  All while throwing players and assistant coaches under the bus publicly.

Denton Ryan forced to take two forfeit losses after Frisco ISD voting block swerves them in district executive meeting...if I was a betting man I would pick Ryan to cover in the remaining games against Frisco schools

This one sucks.  Look for Ryan to try and hang 100 on every Frisco school they play.  The DEC met on Thursday night and voted to make the games a no-contest.  Frisco rethought that move Thursday night and wanted a re-vote on Friday, changing their votes to forfeits.

pretty amazing considering the way he bent over for the players during their tantrums this past summer.

Do none of you have experience dealing with teenagers and young adults?  Bending over and caving to their demands wasn't going to do anything but give them more power and respect Herman less.  It's teaching and coaching 101...even though they can act like assholes about it, teenagers and young adults actually crave discipline and structure.  They push, rebel and test boundaries, it's what they do.  They respect the people who are clear and concise and stand firm.  The key is not to be a complete dickhead about it.

Herman has failed at all of the above, most importantly the not being a dick about it.

Tbh it boils down to lack of accountability and leadership by Herman and as the article above states CDC. The agreement about the song was done. Nothing was relayed to players of any sport. It should have been athletic department wide decision that players should or shouldn’t do. Not up to individual coaches of their respective sport.

Not having a department wide plan for what players will do regarding the eyes have made it a much bigger issue than it should have been.

That’s actually not true. There were meetings, discussions and mandates. The agreement was that players didn’t have to sing it, but they needed to stay.  And guess what happened, two sports had players who threatened to sit out and boycott the season.  Coaches caved, and here we are.

Its not surprising at all that those two sports are the biggest clusterfucks on campus right now, being led by two head coaches who have no business coaching at the University of Texas.

    I have a question.

Do the current athletes and black people on campus speak for all the black people, former athletes, and alumni who came before them?

I’d be interested to hear their opinions.

    No they don’t.

Several of them have, and it’s fallen on deaf ears. Look no further than the Twitter exchange between Chris Brown and Charles Omenihu.

My one chief complaint about the 18-22 crowd, and the 15-18 behind them, is they are unwilling to have any dialogue about change. They demand change, but only in the way they see fit. There is no happy medium, no give and take...it’s all or nothing.

    Fucking bb’s everywhere.

BTW, the volleyball team remains on the court for The Eyes of Texas (regardless of whether they all sing it or not).  Since they could probably kick the football teams ass they should take note.

Currently, football and soccer are the only two sports not staying for the eyes. Coincidentally, they are the teams where majority of the “activists” came from. Also coincidentally, they are the two teams that are complete shit shows at the moment.

Yeah the Sterns one seemed a little suspect to me too. I don't remember hearing a word about it before today.

My thoughts exactly.  It's the fucking OU game, and you sit out with an injured toe?  WTF???  And you're supposed to be on the leadership council and a captain...great fucking example you set there.

Bowman can take all the time he wants, he's still a longhorn at heart. If Tom tells him he can play wherever he wants he'll be back.

This right here.  The kid wants to play offense, and specifically have some type of RB role.  OU has been pushing him and selling him on a role that looks like what the NFL is doing with the RB/WR hybrid role.  Lincoln has been very pointed and specific on how he'd be used as an offensive weapon in their offense, and how that translates to the NFL.  Contrary to any reports, Herman has not offered him the chance to play on that side of the ball here...he is a defensive recruit, period.  Flat out, Herman got his ass whipped in recruiting on this one, which is very sad because Spider2YBanana is correct, the kid's heart is at Texas, his parents are HUGE UT fans, and his GF doesn't play the role in it that all of you wish she did.  At the end of the day, the kid is making a business decision based on an NFL future...and can you blame him?  An OU offensive player going to the league vs. one from UT, it's night and day really.  It's that simple.

#1 in the nation in ppg and Ehlinger leads the nation in TDs. Just say it’s about a girl.

Tom told him exactly that long ago. This isn’t about offense or defense. It’s about a girl.

Actually has very little to do with it.  OU has been pushing the offense part, and that's where his heart is at.  Match that with their recent record of putting offensive players in the league, is it really that hard to imagine this happening?

That’s a great point on Foster, hadn’t considered that

Not just Foster...Juwan Mitchell and Overshown were rewarded with starting spots for it.

I don't know whether he took anything off IG or not, BUT, Bowman is listening to OU.  His decision will come down to which staff sells him best on how they plan to use him (he wants an opportunity to play both sides of the ball).  One staff has told him he's only playing one side, the other staff is selling him on an opportunity for both.  There is a cause for concern, albeit a small one right now.

    I told y'all in July...page 367

Wasn’t there already smoke with him and OU earlier this summer?

Yes, I told y'all mid-July this was a possibility because OU is selling him on being a two-way player.  I was essentially laughed off the board and told to GTFO

BJ Foster's return to the team was co-signed by the players. Overshown is aligned as fuck, and please, who should be playing Will in his stead? The walk-on or the true freshman? Okafor and Cook were co-signed by the team. I don't think Okafor would be starting if Hookfin was healthy and Cook isn't starting, so all of your point is essentially useless.

I love shitting on Tom. He's not getting it done here. But, at some point, the players have a responsibility to achieve their potential. I do believe that the staff is doing their best to put them in a position to succeed, specifically the coordinators, and it's time the team won despite the fact that there is a solipsistic asshat in charge.

I wasn't even thinking of Foster directly, although he's a great example.  I don't really care if the team wanted him back or not.  He didn't get playing time in a game, quit, asked to come back and was rewarded with playing time, and sucked in that allotted time, showing why he wasn't playing in the first place.  The key in ALL of that is him getting rewarded with playing time because he quit.  That sets a precedent.  Who's to say Kenyatta Watson isn't doing the exact same?  I was thinking of Juwan Mitchell.  Enter the portal but come back to being a starter?  What is that telling your program?  And I get the backup part, I do.  But at some point the head coach has to say that the program is bigger than the player.  Sadly, that time has passed.

Overshown, I get it, he doesn't have a backup.  But he's also known that all along, which makes his handling maddening.  The guy chose not to come to campus until the very last minute, even though his team was here and working out.  And he wasn't missing because of CoVid, or BLM, or any other social issue...he just did not want to practice.  So again, allowing him to just not be here, and then walk into a starting spot, it causes problems.
