my pal in FTW is concerned about Bowman.. says he took off his Texas pics on IG..

I don't know whether he took anything off IG or not, BUT, Bowman is listening to OU.  His decision will come down to which staff sells him best on how they plan to use him (he wants an opportunity to play both sides of the ball).  One staff has told him he's only playing one side, the other staff is selling him on an opportunity for both.  There is a cause for concern, albeit a small one right now.

Kind of weird that our 3 most vocal (4 if you count Cook) guys about sitting out are the ones in positions with weak depth who have sat out for various reasons in the past already, this is just another reason.

And for the record, I am on board with meeting their requests and making necessary changes.  But I'm also tired of this generation and their expectation of instant gratification, and when they don't get it they want to take their ball and go home.  DO admits in his note that steps are being taken...sorry they aren't quite moving at the pace he'd like.

  3. Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't feel like going through the 15 pages I've missed today.  I received this picture in a text from a SA at UT, and supposedly this is what they are proposing.  And now I'm confused.  I thought they wanted the whole song gone because of its ties to a minstrel show.  That does not appear to be the case.  They are requesting lyrics changes, and I'm not sure why they chose the lyrics they did to replace.  And we are keeping it to the tune of "I've been working on the railroad" so it can't be that, and we are keeping "The Eyes of Texas" even though those lyrics could be argued against because Robert E. Lee said them.

I'm good with making changes to make this less racially based, but I seriously do not understand this whole thing at all if we are only changing a few lyrics.

Also, the article totally forgot to mention the main reason he went back to USC.  He got hung up on some high school pussy that dumped him when he moved back because now she could upgrade and fuck the bench players on the Lakers haha.

Same girl who spends A LOT of time in Austin.  Funny how things work out.

  5. I'm glad Miranda, Shannon and Kaitlyn are coming back, but I''m going to remain skeptical that it'll happen until they officially step on the field.  There are still a lot of moving parts and unknowns that have to be answered.  All the NCAA did was say they could come back, and gave a year of eligibility back to all spring sports athletes.  That's it.  Conferences and Schools will be able to decide whether they allow it or not, and before the decision by the NCAA, the Big 12 was not on board with giving eligibility back.  SEC and ACC wanted all athletes to get a year, PAC wanted only seniors, and the Big 12 and Big 10 did not want anyone getting a year.

Another factor will be the finances.  It is up to the school to pay the returning seniors scholarship.  Below are the rules the NCAA put in place regarding returning seniors and scholarship money:

    • A returning senior can receive up to the amount they were on in 19/20.  They may not receive more.
    • Any scholarship money given to a returning senior will not count against the program limit of 12.
    • If a returning senior transfers, any scholarship money they get from the new school will count against the program limit of 12.

Some schools can't pay and some won't pay.  With the loss of money each school receives from the NCAA, can't will be a real factor for a lot of schools.  And that's assuming college football season happens in the fall.  If not, watch out.

But here's where it gets real tricky...the scholarship relief is only for next year and the returning seniors.  After next year, it's back to 12.  So coaches are going to have a decision to make, keep your now Juniors, or keep your 2021 recruits.  Unless players on either side start giving up money, something will have to give.  So for White, decision will be to keep and pay Lauren Burke, Janae Jefferson, Taylor Ellsworth, Ariana Adams, MK Tedder and Mary Iakopo...or drop them and pick up the 2021 commits Katie Cimusz, Sophia Simpson, Nelia Peraltz and Ashton Maloney.  And that decision will have to happen by November.  And another layer to that is the coaches may not have the choice, because of scholarship rules and language, if the current Juniors choose to come back their scholarship will be honored.  So if all of the current Juniors choose to return, there may not be an money for 2021's.

And lastly, the Freshman class for 20/21 will now be 10.  The four from this season (Popelka, Marder, Corona and Green) will be FR again and you're now adding Ratcliff, Smith, Washington, Whitaker, White and Williams.

Thanks for everything, Slack!  Guess we can officially start figuring out who fills the hole at SS now.

The plan right now is for it to be the FR coming in, Alyssa Washington.  But it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being someone off the transfer portal.

Little disappointing. I think OU’s big 3 seniors are all coming back (Mendes, Saile and Washington)

Don't 100% quote me yet on those four, just what I've heard.  I think money may end up being a big factor.  The only way I can conceivably see this working is the NCAA granting the Seniors another year, but on their own dime.  I think that will eliminate a majority of Seniors wanting to come back, and not just here.

Because if you aren't testing then you don't know how many cases you have. Ask Russia. And West Virginia

Don't blame West Virginia...they are just using their moonshine as a cure all, and it's working.

I would rather not see Akina come back. He’s getting up there in age and I think it could be a super awkward dynamic coming back under a totally different regime. I have to think there are coaches that are equally as capable but will bring fresh energy and a recruiting boost to the program.

I'd be all for Akina coming back, IF we set him up with a young protege for him to mentor for the future.  Pick any of his former UT players and let Akina teach him how to coach.  Then in a year or two, pass the torch.

Our idiotic coaches just spent the entire year practicing blitzes from 20 yards out than fundamentals.

I posted about this a while ago.  Naivar and Washington shouldn't necessarily get a "free pass", but I don't think they should be getting hammered as hard as they are either.  I had someone tell me that the defense spent about 90% of their practice time working on nothing but blitzes.  The defensive assistants often asked for position work time and were rarely granted it.  Orlando did not put any time and effort into player development, he solely cared about his scheme.  I'm not overly surprised that our players looked "coached up" last night.

Wonder how much influence Ash had on those practices? I know Naivier called the game as DC but wonder if Ash was coaching his ass off during the practices?

I remember hearing on one of the podcasts that Ash wasn't allowed to do any on-field coaching until after the bowl.  He could do meetings and film, but that's it.

I can’t understand anyone lamenting Overshown transferring, if that happens. Yeah, he hits like a ton of bricks and shows plenty of talent. He also cannot handle being dinged up. He’s made of glass and that will always be the case. He should stay and see what’s in store, but fuck him if he checks out.

Sorry, but this x 1000.  Cut from the same mold as CJ in terms of durability and desire.

I doubt he’d take it but if he wanted it, any chance he’d qualify for a medical redshirt? Seems like at least a couple of years he was injured more than he played. Guy is a beast on the field but just can’t stay healthy.

Check post #185 above to see why it's time for CJ to move on.

Does it say when Chris Ash starts?  I didn't see if the appointment is immediate, or if he is expected to coach the team for the bowl game?

104.9 said he won't coach the bowl game, but will be involved in game prep.  Given that he was already an analyst, I'm guessing he's already been working some.

Are we just not gonna talk about the fact that he twice mentions (in a very short clip) how much involvement and back-and-forth he had with Nike and the shoe design?

Exactly what we want our head coach in the throes of hiring an entire new staff and prepping to take on a Top 10 team...a fucking Pinterest project.

If we had a half-ass decent staff, or even had half of staff roles filled, I'd be the first to say, "Yeah, he's got 30 minutes a day for a couple weeks to deal with this kinda stuff...the players will love it."  But we don't, he doesn't, and I don't give a shit about your glorified multi-million dollar Etsy project, Coach Herman.  Get to fucking work.  Now.

You think Utah is having a shoe-design competition?  No they're doing shit like tackling people wearing shoes.

My thoughts exactly.  What do you think he spent more time on, hiring coaches or designing shoes?
