I haven't seen the case made for why they shouldn't.

Just to make sure I understand your stance.  You believe that Israel should be disbanded, the Jews living there should move out or be forced out and the Palestinians should be given that entire area (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, whatever…) to create Palestine.  That would be pre 1948, correct?

Oh great, now YOU'RE wanting to stake a claim to Israel too?

It’s only fair that we kick both the Jews and Palestinians out and give it to Nivek.  I mean his peeps were there first.

You're Irish.  Nobody is worried about your claims.  We could give the whole kit and caboodle back to you, we'd have it all back before the end of the weekend, and you'd be too drunk to notice.

What, are we not able to stereotype the Irish around here?  I'm sorry, I thought this was America.

It really depends how you go about doing that. And if the goal is peace, the how is even more important.

Tell us how Israel should go about doing it then?

I mean, lets say you live in San Diego and if there was a Mexican terrorist group that came across the border from Tijuana and murdered 1400 woman and children from the US and took a few hundred hostages to boot back across the border into Mexico what would the US do?  If the terrorists went back to densely populated Tijuana and surrounded themselves with civilians would our government say, “eh too bad but we can’t do anything so let’s do nothing and see if they do it again.”  I’m pretty sure the citizens of this country would also be screaming for retribution and the dismantling of said Mexican terrorist group.  Maybe the Mexican terrorists believe California should still be theirs and the US stole the land from them and nothing will matter until all US citizens in CA are dead or move out  (We could do this for TX instead of CA also).

Brisket, nothing against Mexicans just using it as an example.  I guess I could do the same fake scenario with Canada technically.

And the NSC Spox also confirms it:

I can predict with near 100 percent certainty that the discourse will shift from “of course it was Israel” to “the U.S. and Israel are just as unreliable as Hamas, despite the vast delta in evidence.” And then to “it doesn’t matter who actually bombed it because Israel is responsible for everything ultimately.”

It will likely happen on this thread.

    It already has.

  6. So Biden last night/today said his proof that the hospital destruction wasn’t from Israel but from Islamic Jihad (or whatever) wasn’t from the Israelis but from the Pentagon.  So, if true, the Pentagon and Israel are saying they have proof it wasn’t Israel and Hamas says it was and we have people on this thread believing Hamas because, why? I’m not saying Israel hasn’t done bad stuff ever but in this case it seems like they didn’t blow up the hospital and I notice everyone on this thread railing against them yesterday isn’t on this thread today saying, “my bad, guess it wasn’t them”.  Quite telling.

Call me crazy, but what if they weren't ordered to do atrocities and it's more a matter of the extremist radicalized fighters making the most of an opportunity to pay back generations of wrongs - real or propaganda. Once that match was lit, no telling what millennia of sectarian violence was going produce in terms of atrocities.

It was a tactic in WWII imperial Japan to force their soldiers to do atrocities so that it would remove all other options but to fight to the death or suffer reprisals from the enemy. I really do think there's an element of that at work here too from Hamas. Remove all other options for the Palestinians and local islamists, even if they wanted nothing more than to be at peace

Edit: I realize these two things are somewhat at odds with each other. I'm just thinking out loud and seeing what fits

I’m pretty sure copying the Japanese tactics in WW2 probably isn’t a great idea based on how it ended for them.

Giving Israeli citizenship to all Palestinians is a guaranteed way to kill off all Jews in the region.  Yea the Jews would maintain control for awhile but all it takes is more Muslims moving in and the current Muslim population to breed at a higher rate for Muslims to take over the country.  What do you think they would do with the Jews as soon as they had majority control?

It sounds like what would happen would be....

    1) The Palestinians would decide it's great to be in the majority and let everybody (jews) live happily ever after together.  OR....

    2) They would kill them all at worst or force them to leave at best.

    3) I guess once part 2 happened we would just say, "welp that's democracy so we have to live with what they just did to those jews"

  9. Just now, David Dennison said:

So I guess we don't really believe in democracy.

Your comment is disingenuous.  Brisket mentioned a realistic scenario and all you can come up with is that comment?

How about we agree on a few premises that we might have discussed before the events of this weekend (and I know that not everyone here will agree with them, but I’d bet a majority would).

    1. Israel has a right to exist.
    2. Jews have a right to exist without being targeted for extermination.
    3. The Palestinian people have a right to exist.
    4. That Palestinian “right to exist” means more than merely “continuing to draw breath” – it should mean a life with basic human rights, decent living conditions, and the ability to enjoy peaceful freedom.  And yes, it means having land in which they can have those things.
    5. Israel has behaved mighty shittily: the settlements, the recent right-wing shenanigans, etc. ad nauseum.
    6. Palestinians have behaved plenty shittily, targeting civilians within Israel and jews elsewhere in the world.

I’m not even touching the multiple stupid-ass wars of extermination that the Palestinians and Arab nations launched against Israel.  Let’s keep this simple, and post-1967 in terms of conduct and principles to evaluate.

Okay.  So we agree on those six premises.

Cool.  How do we get there (premises 1-4)?  Most reasonable conversation, and the Oslo accords, pointed the same way: a two state solution.  And again, for the sake of finding some measure of consensus on a premise, let’s agree that the Oslo accords were wildly imperfect and ultimately counterproductive.

But let’s pitch some end-games here, to see if they are even possible.

    1. Israel within its borders as of the 1949 armistice.  Palestinian state in the West Bank.  Jerusalem as a city under UN control.
    2. Israel within its 1948 borders.  Give everything else back, Palestinian state in the areas deemed “arab state” in 1948.
    3. Israel within its borders after the 1982 treaty with Egypt.  Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, with the ability to freely move between them.

Let’s just ask the main question: would the Palestinians and their leadership (and importantly their backers) ever accept ANY these, and let Israel be?  Every single person on this board knows the answer is NO.

The Palestinian position is pretty unambiguous: full right of return (even though the Palestinians and arab states started disastrous war after disastrous war and lost fucking land out the ass, which is how wars fucking go).  And honestly…..the end of the State of Israel.  The Palestinian position will never accept the existence of Israel.

So, knowing those truths….WTF is Israel supposed to do?  I ask that in all sincerity – WTF are they supposed to do?  Set aside Israel’s shittiness of its settlement policy, the cheap right-wing provocations under Bibi’s regime….imagine that Israel had acted with a soft hand since 1982.  Do you think the Palestinian position would be anything other than “cool….exterminate the jews, end Israel, give all land to the Palestinian people?”

There is no compromise.  So WTF do they do with that?

This is a well thought out post (kudos Brisket) and I am curious how many on this board respond to it.  What is the choice of Israel currently?  I don't have the answers, but I am pretty sure all Israeli citizens packing up and moving to the US isn't probably going to happen so then what's next for Israel and the region to do.  Those that brought up the native Americans in the US, while of course not the same thing, but what would happen if one of the tribes in Oklahoma decided they want their land back and started firing rockets into Texas and killed a thousand people.  What would the US government do?

I was in section 107 and haven’t watched the replay because I don’t want to be more pissed. If they did more than up the middle(which is what it looked like from 1 of 107 then so be it. I still think they should have spread them out from first down and used some motion with J Whitt, even if it’s a threat it gets the defense moving in another direction.

The second down play was a toss to the right so they did mix it up a bit.  Watch the OL replay that is posted above of those 4 plays and you will see our OL and blocking sucked on all the plays.  I get what you are saying about spreading them out but at the same time, we should have a OL that can block and get a yard for their RB especially when the RB is a beast and you just need to not let him not get swarmed in the backfield by multiple guys.

  12. The center looks really strong on that 3rd down play.  Looked like he crumpled and blocked nobody.  Pretty sure when your center blocks nobody on a short yardage run there is a good chance the play fails.

Nope. Just watched that series of plays again. They just beat us at the LOS.

This right here.  If Sark called a bunch of passing plays at the one yard line and they didn't work everybody on this board, including me, would be screaming, "run the fucking ball up the middle".  With Brooks and a decent push from the OL we should have been able to get the ball in the endzone.  The OL failed 4 times unfortunately.  I am guessing Majors would have made a big impact on one of those 4 plays if he was in but it sucks he got injured.  I don't see this game as a loss because of Sark.  Was he perfect?  No, but neither is the guy in my avatar most weeks and many consider him a pretty decent football coach.  We lost because of a few reasons, and they are the reasons that most teams lose a game even when they are the better team.  We turned the ball over more than the other team, made mistakes (penalties, dropped balls) and sometimes the ball just bounces better for the other team.  Ewers threw a couple of INT's but they weren't as bad as the would-be INT Gabriel threw right into a Longhorns hands that he dropped.  Ewers had the "unluckiness" of having his passes tipped up and caught.  If one of those tips drops to the ground instead of going right to a defender the game may have played out differently.  If on the play where the ball was snapped behind Gabriel and he runs back for it 20 yards or so and it pops right up to his hands instead of him having to fall on it things could have gone differently.  They had way more lucky bounces than we did but shit happens.  The Cardinals beat the Cowboys a few weeks ago but while I am not a Cowboys fan, it is pretty obvious that Dallas is the better team but sometimes the better team loses.

I got to ride out two hours of it last night on the tarmac at DFW before Delta decided it was too dangerous to fly. It was shaking the plane and we were sitting still.

$88 Uber to a $500 hotel last night but back on my way home now.

I was 10 minutes from landing at DFW last night when they shut the airport down and diverted my plane to San Antonio.  I ended up in a hotel in San Antonio near the airport and moved to a morning flight to DFW but that flight has been delayed now for 3 hours.  Sitting on the plane now hoping to take off and get to Dallas finally.  Bad weather sucks along with OU.

Well, it's here and it's spectacular. Super pumped...I haven't had a proper grill in about 4-5 years (between living in a condo that didn't allow them and my new backyard build taking forever). I'm officially a convert from Weber. No doubt that Napoleon is just much more grill for the money, at least so far...

    gQDSVa.jpg

Here it is with the knobs lit up...

    oif2q8.jpg

    MAUlKu.jpg

They turn red when the associated burner is on, which is kind of handy...

    pirg0J.jpg

The side sear station, which is super high heat for searing, not a side cooktop burner that I'd never use. It gets really hot...flames going everywhere. This will take some tweaking and getting used to...

    sqwhjW.jpg

Here's the char on the first side I did. Probably left it on a little too long...

    DJevPr.jpg

And here's the other side which probably wasn't quite long enough, but I was worried I'd overcook it, which I did. There are a few things I can do differently to perfect this part, but it is a really nice feature and I think I'll love it once I get it dialed in...

    HeBWt2.jpg

Here's the money shot, but I'm not super proud of it. Probably cooked it about right before I put it on the sear station, which then took it a bit over...

    LWgR7b.jpg

Overall though, the build quality, features, warranty and price point are superior to Weber in just about every way I can see so far.

Bumping this as I am looking at doing a built in grill and thinking of going with the Napoleon Prestige Pro 665.  You still happy with the purchase?  My old house had a built in Grand Turbo which was still going strong 15 years later but the Napoleon intrigues me.  By doing the built in I lose the infrared sear station but the guy at the store kind of said the grill gets plenty hot to sear a steak anyways.

  16. Yeah.  I played twice this weekend.  Shot a 84 Saturday and a 91 Sunday.  Short game killed me on Sunday.  Nothing like being 50 years away from the pin, middle of the fairway after 2 shots on a Par 5 and triple bogeying the hole cause I blade a wedge into the sand trap.

Rip Jimmy.  The lyrics below from A pirate Looks at 40 are fantastic.

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late

The cannons don’t thunder, there’s nothing to plunder

I’s and over-forty victim of fate

Arriving too late, arriving too late

I’ve done a bit of smuggling, I’ve run my share of grass

I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast

Never meant to last, never meant to last.

  18. This is the cloak room right?  The Big 12 has already rigged the season against us bigly.  By the way, the Big 12 is being controlled by the Biden Crime Syndicate and China.

On a more positive note, we are going to win all our games including the National Championship and a statue of Sark lifting up Ewers holding the championship trophy will be commissioned for the outside of the stadium.
