  1. Honest question and wondering if this should be its own thread but when the cunt from Alabama was asking if you are better off now or 4 years ago what is your answer?  For me I am better off now and I feel the country is also.  I am curious who on Surly was doing great 4 years ago and now Biden has ruined their life or maybe vice versa.  Or maybe you are better off or worse and it has nothing to do with who is president.

This Katie Britt chick is annoying as fuck. So much hate and fakeness in those eyes and smile.

That was a speech that could have been done by Tammy Faye Baker or any other televangelist.  It was like watching a bad actress.  I was waiting for the end of it for her to say please send me as much money as you can so I can give it to Jesus to save you.  The saddest thing about the speech is the people of this country are so dumb they watch that and believe her.

If his speechwriting team doesn't have him prepped with a handful of brutal responses to MTG heckling, they aren't doing their jobs.

Exactly.  First time she pipes up he should just say, “listen lady, I don’t come down to where you work and knock the dicks out of your mouth so would you shut the fuck up so I can do my job and finish this speech I’m giving for the American people”.

Flipping channels in the car for a couple of hours last night and during my 10-15 minutes that I was listening to Fox News channel - host or guest (not sure how) makes a general comment that Hunter Biden should testify before the committee in an open session. He was saying what is Hunter trying to hide by testifying in a closed sesson - to which I started to laugh because Hunter was asking to testify in on open session, he actually show up, unannounced, for an open session and there were threats to arrest him on contempt for not coming to a closed session.
My question is who, on the committee, is so afraid to take Hunter Bidens testimony in an open session and/or what question is he being asked that members don't want the public to hear.

Well, since they are all a bunch of cucks they are probably asking him if he would use his big dong on their wives while they watch.

    Sell prayers for Donald Trump.

    the perfect grift

You all are crazy to think those dumb fuckers would spend money on prayers for Donald Trump.  Now if you did thoughts and prayers, then they would line up around the block to give you their money like they do at the Golden Corral buffet.

Frampton HAS to be a slam dunk, right?  Right?

We are talking rock and roll hall of fame and he is no Sade/Cher/Mary J Blige now is he!

Yeah, he should be in the rock and roll hall of fame since he is one of the giants of rock in the 1970's with arguably the greatest live album ever and he isa amazing guitarist.  Then again, Sade did have that song The Sweetest Taboo so who knows.

  7. I know the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke, but I did not see a thread about the 2024 nominees.  Below is this year's list.  I would vote for Foreigner, Frampton, Jane's Addiction, Oasis, Ozzy and A Tribe Called Quest.  I am guessing none of those will get in and the inductees will be Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Sinead O'Connor and Sade.

    • Mary J. Blige
    • Mariah Carey
    • Cher
    • Dave Matthews Band
    • Eric B. & Rakim
    • Foreigner
    • Peter Frampton
    • Jane's Addiction
    • Kool & the Gang
    • Lenny Kravitz
    • Oasis
    • Sinéad O'Connor
    • Ozzy Osbourne
    • Sade
    • A Tribe Called Quest

If the polls are constantly overrating the GOP by 4-5 points, then Biden is likely winning by 3-4 points nationally and probably just repeating 2020’s results. Not much seems to have changed since 2020, really

Yeah, but see that narrative doesn't really get eyeballs for the media so they need to position the narrative as Trump is beating Biden and everyone in America thinks Trump is much better than Biden and he will be the winner come November.  Without a juicier story line they have nothing to fill the airwaves for 24 hours a day.

Mayorkas impeachment passed by 1 vote, 214-213

It’s about time the Republicans did something good.  Mayorkas wanted open borders and enjoyed watching the hoards of brown people coming into the US and handing out drugs that kill people along with raping our women.  Biden also wants open borders and believes in letting everyone in to destroy the white America we all love.  If we could just stop all of these caravans then my life would finally be good instead of me living in the trailer home paying $20 for a happy meal at McDonald’s.

I hope all of your sarcasm meters are on for the above sentences I just wrote

I am sick and tired of these Republicans flat out lying through the media and the dumb ass people in this country believing everything they hear.  I just listened to Steve Scalise saying Biden is responsible for this border crisis which is interesting because I believe Trump ran on this border crisis 8 years ago when Biden wasn’t president.  Oh, and once Trump got in office last time it was great that the Republicans solved the border crisis.  Right?  Right?  These fuckers have their talking point of Biden wants open borders even though he has deported and turned away more people than Trump did.  Unfortunately, I guarantee you could interview some Fox News watching 60 old from West Virginia and they would parrot that Biden wants open borders.

  10. I read the article below and it just infuriates me.  I could have put this in the abortion thread also. My main conclusion after reading it is that most of America seems to be ignorant and unable to have a thought of their own.  The article shows that for woman that backed Trump before, while abortion is kind of important to them, they will still vote for Trump.  They don't blame him for Roe V Wade being overturned because they are too dumb to connect the dots of Trump and the Republican Party putting the judges and laws in place to do it.

The other thing I noticed is the interviewer mentioned that the women regurgitate certain things that obviously come straight from Trump and Fox News type of sources (Sleepy Biden or their comments about immigrants).  By the way, I should add that while my statements above are about women, I feel the same about most men in this country.  There are just way too many citizens in the US that are idiots.  They believe everything they hear from their echo chamber and don't have the ability to step back and say to themselves, maybe I am being used by these folks and lied to just for my vote.  It also shows how effective the Republicans are at messaging.  Immigration, while a big issue, should not be the main issue of some suburban women from Pennsylvania.  I can see it hitting close to home for many people in states like TX, AZ and CA but for these women in PA to have this as one of their main issues proves how good Fox News is at what they do.

These women support Trump and abortion rights — and feel they don't have to choose (nbcnews.com)

  11. The song, We are the World, is a beating to me now but it was such a big deal at the time it is still really impressive what they did.  My favorite “song for a cause” from the 80’s was Sun City.  I still like it to this day and the range of the artists that were involved is pretty amazing also.

My rising 9th graders counselors keep telling everyone (kids and parents) not to take "advanced" (pre-AP basically) everything. Take one or two classes with the norms, is how I interpret that. Does anyone listen? Like, she has expressed no real interest in engineering or sciences, but then again she is 14. Maybe she'll suddenly want to go med school and want lots of rigorous high school science.

So: did yall's UT bound kids take pretty much AP/IB everything?

My kid was all AP everything.  He was in a STEM school for middle school so got advanced in Math to the point he was done with calculus and statistics as a Junior.  Not sure it mattered as he still didn’t get into Mccombs.  He avoided the dual credit stuff since his goal wasn’t to transfer all that to college so he could finish quickly.

  13. The whole, "I would have never gotten into UT these days" is interesting and I wonder how many on here think they would get in today.  I would have zero fucking chance of getting in yet back in the day I got into the Business School from out of state.  My kid who didn't get in the busines school has a "resume" of being top 2% in  his 6A high school, never getting anything but an A his entire life (mostly like 97s to 100s), all the extracurriculars like qualifying for DECA state multiple times, being picked for that Boys State program and winning office at it, national honor society, student government, Varsity golf team 3 straight years and he still couldn't sniff the business school.  I get every kid has the same great qualifications but it is interesting what kind of kids don't get into UT schools like business/engineering/etc...

I on the other hand had like a 3.7 GPA in high school with plenty of non-A grades, mediocre SAT score and was in the Latin Club and they admitted my dumb ass.

  14. My kid was just accepted today to UT Austin, Moody School of Communication Advertising Major.  He is excited about this but I am kind of worried about an advertising degree.  Am I about to throw away a bunch of money on a useless degree or is a degree in advertising actually a good thing.  It seems at least it is like 70% female to male ratio in advertising so he has got that going for him I guess.  His first choice was Marketing/ Business School but he did not get in so this was his second choice. At least he is not following his old man’s path and getting a history degree from UT.
