  1. You a Cass county boy, or just passing through?  My grandmother (from Douglassville) told me there used to be a cafe in Linden back in the 50s and 60s where they all met.  Of course, everyone in Kildare and Linden are all related in multiple ways so they may have had meetings in numerous places.

Guilty. When I was a kid there was a place to drink coffee in the back of the pharmacy on the square. That’s where a lot of the old folks hung out. Either there or the senior citizens center on the next street over. There was a diner in Kildare called the Kildare Kozy Kitchen.

  2. That looks like a house out in Kildare that was rumored to be the meeting place for the KKK. My dad and I went in there one day because the dude ran a welding shop and he was supposed to weld something for the tractor. The place was creepy as fuck with all the nazi memorabilia that was strewn about. I’ll look for pictures of it.

This is the place. Can’t get a good shot of the flags from google earth.

  4. If your shed is cedar or pine then you could try shou sugi ban Japanese fire treatment. You may want to practice first.

If it works out it will be allsome.  If not post the video of your shed burning down on Surly.

Are you not familiar with Stanco? There is only one way this will end.

  5. Every time you lift overhead, you have to make sure the full swing radius of the crane is clear. It gets to be a bitch (and stops a lot of work) if your continually stopping work to make a lift over the top of the structure. It makes sense to do it at night with less people on site so you’re not impacting other work as much.

  6.
    then he's not paying enough.

Back when the additional money was first added to unemployment, we had contract electricians (journeymen and helpers) that were begging to be RIF’ed so they could get unemployment. The grocery store owners hourly pay rate has shit to do with some people’s desire to work if they can make it on what they get in the mailbox.

  7. I picked my kids up the other day from the sitter and my three year old got in the car going on and on about Jake. I asked her who Jake is and she looked me dead in the eye and said “Jake from farm”. Last night she had a toy phone and she was calling Jake from farm.

That commercial is on every ten minutes and she never noticed it. Now she will be talking about/to Jake from farm for months. It’s amazing what they can either ignore completely or latch on to.

  8. Never mind, I should have paid more attention. I see you said generac.

Yup. It’s been pretty solid. The only thing I’ve had to do to it outside of changing the oil is replace the oil pressure switch. I did have a fuse blow today in the transfer switch when the power blipped a couple of times so I had to order a replacement for it.
  9. I’m thinking about getting a natural gas generator for my house eventually. I don’t know that I’ll ever need it though. I’m in the middle of town and the power rarely goes out.

If I remember correctly you are somewhere near me. I bought mine from Nantze Electric and they took care of everything. I got the 22KW natural gas generac with the automatic transfer switch. They coordinated everything from having the gas meter upgraded to accommodate the addition flow to scheduling the electric company to come pull the meter. They were great and I had zero complaints. The only thing I upgraded was the cable from the generator to the transfer switch. They typically install aluminum cable and I upgraded to copper. I think we were somewhere in the $8500 range all in.
