lol. That was absolutely not the consensus on this board 12 months ago. The consensus was that Bo was knocking it out of the park with underrated gems like Sydir Mitchell, Jaray Bledsoe, Aaron Bryant, Kris Ross and others, and that any gnashing of teeth about our future DT depth chart was nothing but histrionics. It's fine, it's what fans of college football recruiting do.

The reason why people had to use terms like “underrated gems” is because he wasn’t landing the top guys. So yeah, people were maybe polishing turds, but there was still an acknowledgement that he wasn’t landing the top guys.

I think Bo Davis was a really good coach here and he helped turn around the culture. But recruiting hasn’t been a strength for a while for him, and people here came to grips with that before he left.

Lol.  If Baylor got him then we 100% had a shot to get him.

Oh well, if we could pull JT Toppin that would be a great alternative  We could potentially get 2-3 years of Toppin and he also is 6'9 vs. Omier' 6'7.

This was reportedly not about NIL. Winning a recent national championship comes with some perks.

  3. CTJ has been saying forever that Garrison’s price was going to be absurd, so him to Kentucky isn’t that shocking. But we desperately need a big.

The reporting around this team has been pretty wonky, we’ve had two transfer commits seemingly come out of nowhere, better hope that’s the case again.

Mailk Presley? Another guard? (From Vandy)

Presley is 6’6, so he can be a wing, but either way, I don’t see him playing much anytime soon. Could pan out later.

  5. Amina’s transfer only made sense if it was because she wanted to start. She went somewhere she’s definitely going to start.

She’s got a cousin on the football team there too, just like she did here.

Yeah, I think that was always the biggest issue at Texas.

Can you convince somebody like Muhammad to be the 3rd option at PF and essentially the 4th to 6th "big" on the roster? It's a tough sell.

Keeping depth is going to be harder than ever in the transfer portal era. It’s probably good for WBB as a whole though. There will be more competitive teams.

  6. The ISU players are there for a role, they aren’t the replacements for Disu and Abmas, and no one ever claimed they were.

Tramon Mark is closer to that, and hopefully Pope and someone like Garrison joins him.

With that said, calling all non-P5 transfers low-hanging fruit is lazy and reductionist. We just saw a Final 4 filled with non-P5 transfers.

Off-topic, but I'm curious why Schertz went to SLU from ISU.

Is it that much better of a job? Does it pay that much better? I guess the A10 is more likely to get more than one team in the NCAA tournament, unlike the new MVC. His alma mater is FAU, so no ties there. I can't nail down an obvious reason.

He made 365k a year at Indiana State, Saint Louis is paying him 2 million per year. So yeah, the pay is that much better.

Indiana State did offer him a raise, but the highest they got was 850k.

His GF is also playing at Kansas next year.

I've never understood the Storr hype. He's a legit scorer but pretty bad at everything else. I would straight up take Mark over him and especially if it doesn't involve us getting into some type of bidding war.

I know we live in a new basketball reality, but not once playing consecutive years with the same team for his entire college and high school career still feels like a red flag.

Because I'm tired of them.  LeBron is almost fucking 40 and has been the center of the basketball world for 20 years.  KD is 35.  Steph is 36.  Just go away and let me watch the younger guys like Ant, Brunson, Halliburton, Chet, Banchero, etc.  I'd be much more interested in watching that.  I'm not a big fan of the old dudes hanging on for one more go-round.  You've had your shot, now let the younger guys take over.

I don't need any more LeBron, Steph or KD in my life.  I'm full.

USA basketball basically begged those old guys to come back, because all those young guys you listed minus Chet were on the last world championships team that got their asses kicked. I’m not going to bash the OGs for simply saying yes.

If the young guys want to take over, then they should be better.

Jokic is the guy to worry about. And Doncic. One man wrecking crews.

Slovenia hasn’t qualified for the Olympics yet, and they’re not a lock to either. Now that Dragic has retired, that team is Luka and a bunch of spares. Serbia is dangerous though, if they get everyone to play, that team is more than just Jokic.

People said the Wolves couldn't play Rudy and KAT at the same time, either.  That seems to have worked out fine this year.  I'm sure they could find a way to get them all on the floor.

That’s two guys. Add Embiid to the Timberwolves and they would struggle to start all 3. Especially since Gobert isn’t versatile at all.

Embiid should have played for France.  Him, Wemby and Rudy is a tough out for anyone.

All 3 of those guys can’t play at the same time, Embiid made the right choice with regards to fit.

Im fine with the team, but I don’t understand why they didn’t have a tryout phase. They usually have a minicamp of some sort before they finalize the roster.

There is just something about those vocal peer recruiters on social media that never seem to work out. Jalen Milroe, Brown, Kirkland. Bobby Taylor at ATM.

It works out sometimes. Omenihu was as big of a vocal peer recruiter as I can remember, and he over-performed and is now an impact player in the NFL.

He may be considered a top-25 transfer, but in 4 years he has never gotten a single All-Conference or All Defense Award. No All Freshmen Team. Not even honorable mention. Nothing.  For me, that is a red flag, especially when 3 out of the 4 years were in the AAC. And Arkansas sucked last year.  It would be different if he was a sophomore.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he is great.

That’s fine. It’s still stupid to compare him to Horton and Onyema.

I don’t think transfer portal rankings are the greatest, but they’re good to look back on to remember expectations

Horton was a late desperate take who remained unranked even after we signed him, Onyema was a mid 3-star.

Even the ISU guys are coming in with more expectations than that.

I feel like this is a big negative for us

It’s only negative if we do nothing to replace him. There are better options in the portal.

I appreciated Mitchell’s energy and rebounding, but he often kneecapped our offense.

    What's the story here?

The Houston version is Shaun Bagwell having goes with at least Darryl Kile, Ken Caminiti, and Mike Hampton. The Caminiti trade was driven by Jeff Bagwell's demands, allegedly.

There was rumored to be a love triangle between Jason Kidd, Toni Braxton, and Jimmy Jackson. If I’m remembering correctly, Braxton went on the radio to promote her album and wouldn’t deny the rumors, so everyone assumed they were true.

Kidd and Jackson have always denied it and claimed Braxton did what she did because it was good promo for her album. Jamal Mashburn, who was also on that Mavs team, also says the story wasn’t true, but claims that the rumors gained so much steam that they did in fact hurt the locker room and helped lead to the breakup of that team

The Spurs one, Tony Parker just slept with Brent Barry’s wife.
