I see it as high 4*+ guys expecting to come in and play as freshmen, then don't and leave (Johnson), or see that RT is recruiting over them with transfers and aren't interested in playing that game with RT which is totally understandable. High school recruiting strategy/roster management feels like it's some serious ass right now. RT has to be honest with himself and the recruits about their role, actually play and try to develop them, or stop trying to recruit this type of player though.
Yep, posted in the basketball board, but the roster management needs to be more organized. Instant impact freshman and guys willing to wait are the only high school players we should be recruiting.
If Cam Scott doesn’t fit either of those, then we shouldn’t have signed him in the first place.

Yawn
Having $ to reallocate to the portal is a win
Probably true, but I would like the roster management to be more organized. The reality for Cam Scott today shouldn’t be all that different from when he signed. If he doesn’t fit now, he didn’t fit then. So why did we even pursue and sign him? Why did he sign?
The whole thing seems silly to me.

Who was the last player from Skyline? It's been a while, no?

Looks like it could be Anthony Wheeler.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s Wheeler.
Of note: Jinkens is currently the LB coach at Skyline high, I’m sure he helped a bit in this recruitment.

Surprised it hadn't been posted but Burrell gone for association with the Sweat accident
Vogel says he was about to enter the portal anyway.

Even if this thing crashes and burns the way some of y’all are predicting, Terry still won’t be as bad as Shaka, he’s already cleared that low bar.

I don't know why I can never remember this, but how does it work when you transfer out of a Service Academy?
It works like normal if you’re transferring out of a service academy, but I think you have to do it before your junior year.
Can’t transfer into one though, they don’t take transfer credits. Service academies also are not allowed to do any kind of NIL.

Hes a potential pickup, no?
Avila has a no contact tag in the portal, which means he already knows where he’s going. Likely following his coach to St. Louis.

This guy gets it.
I expect we will make the tournament just about every year and win a game more often than not. And possibly sprinkle in a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 run when the chips fall right. That will be better than the 10 years before RT.
But we will never win it all under him, and it is very unlikely we will make a Final Four.
This would make him one of the best coaches in program history.
I get that we want to aspire to greater things, but the framing of this is still humorous.

I could see Edey sticking in the NBA as a situational bench guy. He’s Canadian Boban.
He’s also probably going to go higher in this draft than his skillset dictates, because this draft class stinks.

Agreed although a healthy Houston could have given them a better challenge than Purdue. Would have should have , blah blah.100% agree that a healthy Houston would’ve been the next best team.

UConn was just clearly better than everyone all season and all tourney. There weren't any great teams this year other than them.

I’m pretty certain, 🤪, the NBA guys know way more than I but, from what I see the NBA speed and pace will really make it tough for him defensively. Just think of him trying to guard a guy like Kevin Durant? Or Jokic?
He might actually sneak into the first round, but only because this is an absolutely terrible draft. He wouldn't sniff the first round in an average draft.

So you are telling me that Calipari was available and we are stuck holding onto Rodney fucking Terry. The world is a cruel place.
Calipari is the biggest underachiever in college basketball right now. You don’t have to turn everything into a complaint about Rodney Terry.

If true, then Christmas came early for Kentucky. That ridiculous buyout is the only reason Calipari hasn’t already been fired .
Scratch the if, I’m late, it’s official.

Nope.
People debating if Arkansas is a destination job, the coaches are giving a pretty clear answer.
-
Not entirely sure why we took that commitment in the first place. Especially considering how slow we’ve been to push with others.

I asked this in the coaching search thread but is Arkansas even a destination school or another stepping stone job for Beard?
It would already be his 5th school in a relatively short amount of time. Eventually he has to stick somewhere if his ultimate goal is to win big.
They just lost their coach to USC, they aren’t a destination school.
-
Are we going to start pushing for some commitments after these upcoming April visits? This board could use some life.

I'm trying to understand what Virginia's strategy was here. If you keep players in the paint and apply any type of pressure NC State probably doesn't even get a decent shot off. Also, why wouldn't you foul here after a couple dribbles?
29 minutes ago, shadow_operative said:or if tony bennett decides to foul up three with time running out. so crazy how these things play out in college hoops. the nba playoffs will always be my far the best on-court basketball product around, but there is nothing like the pageantry, the do-or-die stakes, and the underdog stories of college hoops. for me only the world cup rivals march madness for drama, intrigue, and importance. there’s just nothing like it.
Yeah, it took a comedy of errors for Virginia to blow that game.
A Virginia team that looked like the worst at-large team to make the field in the play-in game should’ve ended NC State’s season right there. And now NC State is in the Final 4. That’s fun. And it’s why hope springs eternal for so many teams every year, you just never know.

Thank you NC State for giving America someone to root for. Duke-Purdue would've been vomit-inducing.
