Gotta say, this is one of the more annoying recruiting stretches I can remember. Not because the sky is falling or anything, but it sure feels like a lot of manufactured interest for no real reason. A ton of dudes that everyone on this board would have assumed are headed elsewhere until “trust us, Texas is RIGHT in this thing”… only for each of them to pick the obvious choice.
We’re still gonna end up with a class that gives satya nightmares, it’s just annoying that we were even paying attention to any of these players in the first place.15 minutes ago, Not a Sock said:Someone got way the fuck out over their skis when reporting on the current state of our recruiting. Gerry and CJ definitely deserve to catch some flak for this one summer recruiting lull, because they hyped this shit way up this time.
Yeah, Xavier Griffin is originally from Alabama, and so is Crowell. that's two 5-stars from Bama that went to Bama. I'm glad we are swinging for the fences, because sometimes it works ( ie Justus Terry last year), but those aren't recruitments that should have ever been considered toss ups.
OTF is better than most, but they're still prone to your typical 9.95 cliches. Phrases like "Texas is confident" don't mean anything, they say it about almost everyone.

Now he is just sitting back and relying on recruiting rankings because We Are Texas and its a priviledge for them to play here. You want to play for The Flagship of Texas, you come to me. Thats his mentality. This is where we are at now.

WR is a position I know will be fine, but the Kaydon Finley/Jalen Lott situations annoy the shit out of me the same way the Brockemeyers did.

Also, Texas isn't getting both Ojo and Turntine.
Do they not want to play together? or is it just not feasible to pay what both want?

What would our ranking be if we removed the kicker, punter, and LS?
Just curious as to where we’d sit.247 and Rivals rankings are based on cumulative score, so the specialists don’t hurt our ranking, just our avg, which their rankings aren’t based on.
I honestly don’t fully understand On3’s ranking system. They have an algorithm that’s based on averages, but it’s weighed to factor in blue chip players more. So the specialists probably are hurting our ranking there, but not by much.

Bobby saying Richard Wesley was NOT one of Gerry's "HI"s.
I don't have some huge objection to the "Hi's", but they are very very meaningless.

Wow! This is the type of huge commitment this board was waiting for. Top 25 national player in the On3 industry rankings, top 15 in the 247 composite.

There's a fundamental asymmetry to losing a NIL recruitment vs. winning one. You have to outspend many schools to win a recruitment, but it takes just one school outspending you to lose a recruitment. For Edwards it was A&M. For Bowman it was USC. For Lott it will be Oregon. For Atkinson it will be Georgia. We can certainly pride ourselves on not overspending, but whether we finish in 2nd place for a recruit or whether we never even pursue the end result is still the same.
Yes, you can say A&M/USC/Oregon/Georgia/Ohio State are stupid for overspending and that we'll ultimately benefit. But teams can now pick and choose which recruits to overspend on, knowing that the House settlement has freed up a lot of additional funding and scholarship limits are much looser. For each of them it's one recruitment won, with a decreased chance of winning future recruitments that we or other unaffected schools may or may not be involved in. But for us it's already four big recruitments lost and counting. We're trading concrete, known losses for the hope of nebulous, hypothetical future recruiting wins.
You’ve become a caricature of yourself. Just straight up a cartoon character at this point.

That’s probably the first recruiting loss that actually hurts this cycle. aggy clearly going all in this class.
And maybe we miss Tashard Choice a bit.

His brother committed to Utah
This whole time I thought this was Chris Stewart’s younger brother, didn’t realize it was his twin.

I just don't understand why they would allocate that amount of resources to a position that, historically, Riley doesn't use a whole lot.
Feels like he's just into the optics of having a highly ranked class. USC also pushes for guys to commit way earlier anyone else, so they have the #1 ranked class for much of the year.

On top of that, we’ve signed legit blue chips in Wingo, Ffrench, Lockett and Mccutcheon in consecutive classes, so it’s not like the staff is going all in on “under the radar” guys. We’ll probably end up getting 1-2 of the highly rated players in this class, based on recent recruiting, and it’ll be a moot point.
Yep. We signed what was probably the best WR class in the country last year, I didn't expect to do that two years in a row. If we land Lott, its all good imo.

I’m a little surprised Brown is a take this early, but I do think this staff deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I feel like they just call every commitment big.

Hard for me to get a feel for his speed at that level of competition.
I don’t know how good of a take he will be, but he plays in the best district in the state. Duncanville and DeSoto are in that district.

That’s cool. I watched the games and he continually got smoked for touchdowns. Watching nfl draft he came up in a ton of pac/big 12 receiver highlights
You just don't like Deion and are letting that cloud your judgment on Hunter. The things you're saying are just factually not true.

I didn’t realize Marion took the Sacramento St job. Seems like he would have had a higher probability path to success by being a coordinator for a few years and then taking a more prominent head coaching job. The rumors about him always having one foot out the door in any job is obviously true. That strategy can work but he better damn well win.
He was the OC at UNLV the past two years. His HC Barry Odom left for Purdue, Marion probably could have gotten another decent OC job, UNLV won 9 and then 11 games with him, but I think he just really wants a shot to run his own program.

I gotta be honest. I'm hardly following recruiting any more. I'm just assuming that we're getting 90%-ish of the top targets and then they are going to backfill any roster misses through the portal.
It's great being the Joneses and all, and lord knows that we took it in the ass from Ohio State, Georgia, Bama, LSU etc. for far too many years and it feels good to turn the tables on those fuckers... but the ins and outs of recruiting isn't all that interesting to me any longer. Is that just me?
There is some truth to the idea that this board is actually livelier when we stink, because recruiting is all we have when the product on the field is bad.
But also, Sark waits a while to push for commitments, which makes a good chunk of the calendar uneventful. We only have 5 commits right now and one of them is a long snapper.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

The “hi’s” are stupid.
This board knows silent commitments are useless but still gets excited over every “hi”.
